  1. The whole point in having your own show. You get to pick who you want and who you don't. Plus, I sure don't want this to continue to be a first black vs. first female battle. My country and freedom are at stake - let's get down to issues.

I agree with this! Its her show, its no secret she's an Obama supporter. I'm sure her ratings would go up if she had Palin on her show now. But it may also help the McCain campaign. Good for her for choosing her canidate over ratings!

I hope you're right JMT. Maybe Palin wont appear on Oprah at all. It really wont do her much good after the election anyway.

  2. I love Elizabeth... she is such a spit fire. I use to hate the view but I have become a fan.

she sure is, except she gets a little "too" emotional for me. She's always crying about one thing or another. Joy is my favorite. I do miss Meridith a little bit too.

  3. I would want my hubby to move on with his life and enjoy it... after all I was the one who died not him, so I would not expect him to stop living..

He would have memories of us and he could hold them close to his heart and that is all I would ask of him..

I agree! I would want my husband to remarry again too.

    I just don't think I would.

  4. Thanks for picking you guys. But I think the Poll troll is at it again. This is from last year. I did choose #2 and I've already stitched it.

    See!

All I have to do is frame it now.

I'm already a few months into my next one which is called Turandot. It looks like this, but with more muted colors.....

Wow, I've met more than I thought I did. There may be a few others that I'm forgetting.....

  6. holy sh i t .. im glad the son was smart enuff not to mess with it Nikki ...

Me too!! He's only 6. I was very impressed with how he handled it. But of course now he keeps begging to look at it. Even though I know its dead, it still gives me the willies. So I took a picture of it so I could just show him that.

This is the 2nd rattlesnake thats shown up in the neighborhood. The first one was a few weeks ago. One of the neighbors shot it.

So I'm guessing its got relatives that are still out there. I just want the kids to be safe....

  7. Please keep an eye on your kids wondering through the neighborhood and especially playing in the wooded areas behind homes.

My son called us from the yard yesterday saying that he saw a huge snake out there and he needed help. So my husband goes out there to find a rattlesnake and he kills it with his old hockey stick.

Here's a picture of whats left of it....

This had to be frightening for a child to run into.

  8. The clip is too short. It would be helpful to know what he was talking about immediately before and after his statement. Often times things take on different meanings when its pulled out of context as this clip surely was.

Sooooo I have no opinion on this propaganda. 8)

Edited to add, the clip above was a little longer than what I came up with when I searched youtube.

I get what he's saying and see no problem. Separation of church and state.

  9. Mulatto is no longer commonly used in the United States. It existed as an official census category until 1930. I ran into this term first when I was doing genealogy research on my family and would scan census records all the time. The term was basically dropped because many found it offensive.

Its actually being revived. But mostly biracial people are self identifying as mulattos. It seems like more people who are NOT mulatto find the term offensive as opposed to those who actually are.

    See the following......

www.mulatto.org - a message board site created by a group of mulattos who choose to identify themselves as such

    www.mulattomatch.com - a dating site for mulattos

www.mulattopeople.org - similar to mulatto.org with the message board and all, just ran by a different group.

There are several myspace groups for mulattos too.

I don't think so many would identify themselves as mulatto if they found the term offensive.

But you're right, most of the people I see embracing this term are young people (under 40). Hopefully in time it will catch on because being mulatto is NOT the same as being just black.......or just white.

Just my opinion....but what do I know?

  10. No need. I'm already familiar. A single drop of "tainted" blood was enough to strike your "noble" liniage. Especially in early colonial times. I seem to recall a story about a well to do woman who fell into this. Grew up as aristocratic and lost everything when they found out there was "Black blood" several generations back.

Then you already know the answer to your own question. Many people still think that way. Its starting to change now though. I was filling out some school forms the other day and I saw that they have "More than one race" or "Multiracial" (something like that) as an option now. When I was going to school they had in BOLD letters Choose ONE of the following and then they'd list black, white and so on. So you were forced to select only one. Or choose "other."

  11. First and foremost, this post is not intended to pit Democrat against Republican or White against Black or whatever. I am simply making an observation and asking a question. First a portion of an article in today's Yahoo news.

Ok, that is the headline that caught my eye and made me ponder the following: Given that Obama is, To the best of my recollection, a 50 / 50 mix from a White Mother and a Black Father. That makes him as much White as Black or vise versa. So according to the article he is a Black Man. Ok, why not, I can see that as easily as a White Man and I really don't care either way. I believe the term Mulatto is the correct way to describe a person of mixed race. Why not use this rather than Black or White? Why does it really even have to matter what race he is? So the big Tado about the 1st Black Presidential Candidate. Ok, So what? It is just politics. My question is this... If the Black race is so mistreated, so discriminated against, so far behind the 8 ball in everthing from the outset - this according to all the folks claiming racial discrimination, demanding equal rights and goverment assistance with self fulfilment, then why in the heck would someone that has just as much right to claim either side voluntarily choose the discrimated side? I do not understand. If I had to choose between being a person who toils endlessly all day everyday or someone who was born with a "silver spoon" in my mouth, why would I choose the endlessly toiling person when I could just as easily claim the silver spoon? Another way to say this why would I choose to be voluntarily blind when I can see now. Life is hard enough without purposely choosing the harder path. I can understand taking the more difficult path if there was an inherent benefit. Kind of like going to college. It was much harder and costly than just jumping into the job pool but I received knowledge and a degree to help in future jobs. I also got a huge bill instead of early income. <_<

Again, I am just pondering and not looking for a fight. B)

Pubby gave the long explanation above. Google "One Drop Rule" and that should clear things up a bit. I had to just say that I'm glad you're familiar with the correct term "Mulatto." I really wish more people would use it. Many prefer the more PC term "Biracial." So yes, actually he would be the first biracial man to be elected president. But sadly, the one drop rule is still in effect. -_-

It's amazing the things white people say around other white people, especially when they don't know the circumstances. ;)

    I know! Disgusting!

  12. Read them all and loved each one. Except the one (New Moon, I think). It was still good, just not as good as the rest.

I'm reading The Host now too.

I'm counting down the days for the movie to be released too. I do hope that they'll make movies out of the rest of the books. Seeing how fond Hollywood is of making sequels I think they might. According to the following site, the actors are aleady contractually obligated to do 3 films should the studio decide to make them.

After reading Breaking Dawn....I would REALLY like to see that one on the big screen too.
