  1. why would the deposit be so much?

I was surprised by the amount. I think the City has had a problem with folks not paying bills. Also, the City may be using the money for capital improvements (although it has to refund the money upon termination of the service - without any interest of course). It could be used as a hidden tax. I wonder how many people forget they made a deposit and never obtain a refund when they cancel the service.

  2. I recently completed an application for water. The deposit was $150.00. You can call City Hall at 770-443-8100 (that may be the dispatch number at the police department but they can give you the correct number) for more information. The staff is very friendly. I don't have city trash pick-up, so I don't know if there is a deposit. I think the monthly fee is around $12.00.

  3. I'll be happy to speak with you. Having an attorney usually makes a difference. If you cannot afford an attorney, you may qualify for a court-appointed attorney. Several of them are my friends, and they are good at what they do as weill. Frankly, I think of myself as cheap as compared to most others, especially if the incident occured in Paulding County. Much of my practice is criminal defense. My office is lcoated on the Square in Dallas. You can either PM me or call me at 770-443-6060.

*** Edited to add that he should consult with an attorney asap because an accused only has 10 business days from the arrest to request a hearing challenging a possible administrative suspension of his driver's license (usually from refusal to submit to state-administered test or if he blew over a .08 on Intoxilyzer)

  4. We have had a femal coyote come in our yard at least three times today, throughout the heat of the day.

Coyotes are nocturnal, but will come out during the day during breeding season.. and to look for food if they have pups.

Since this one came up three times (confirmed) over the course of the day, I think she may have pups near by.

    What to do?

Call the 11 year old boy from Alabama. I hear he's a good shot. I've got several on my property too. If given the chance, I will not hesitate to eliminate them.

  5. Sometimes it is difficult for a few of you to tell the difference between Republicans & Democrats.

Here is simple illustration of the difference between the two parties.....................

Fred Thompson and Hillary were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person.

The Republican, Fred Thompson, gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come

to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

Hillary was very impressed, so when they came to another homeless person, she decided to help.

She walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office.

She then reached into Thompson's pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fees

and gave the homeless person $5..

Now, do you understand the difference?

    ^_^

  6. We have a first name. Please tell me the last name isn't similar to a large boat.

I don't think it's a secret. The applicant was discussed in another thread started by TBAR last week. The actual appliant is BLD Enterprises (or something like that) and the owner is Brian Stover. I don't know much about boats, other than not to buy one, so I'm not sure that his last name resembles a large boat. :)

  7. A TRANSFER STATION IS NOT A "DUMP". KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING BEFORE YOU SAY IT.

I HAVE GRANDCHILDREN THAT LIVE VERY, VERY CLOSE TO THIS SITE AND I KNOW THEY ARE IN NO HARM WHAT SO EVER!!!

HE JUST DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY.

    Denise:

Welcome to P.com. Actually, the City Ordinance under which Brian is applying specifically states that it is for a "Dump", which would allow the dumping of household garbage and even dead animals. I would agree that a transfer dump/station is not a landfill. The garbage dumped on this site is not supposed to stay for more than 24 hours before being transferred to Polk County, which Brian indicated he would likely use for a landfill.

I do agree with you, though, as to Brian's integrity. However, I wouldn't want a nuclear waste facility in the City of Dallas either, regardless of the honesty/integrity of the operator. From my perspective, there are several problems with the location of the transfer dump in the City of Dallas:

    (1) Significantly increased truck traffic in the City of Dallas and especially downtown Dallas. While many trucks will use H-278, those travelling down H-61 from Cartersville and H-381 and H-92 from East Paulding will drive through downtown Dallas to get there. Most of the growth in the County is in North and East Paulding. When the transfer dump in Seven Hills closes, all of the trash in the County will likely be delivered to the City of Dallas.

    (2) Increased traffic increases the risk of collisions with vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. This is especially dangerous, given the City's goal of using the Silver Comet Trail and downtown events (like car shows, the theater and the civic center) to increase tourism in the City and promote the economic vitality of the area.

    (3) Nothing would preclude Brian from sellling the facility to a third-party who does not share Brian's character.

There are many other problems with the facility. Once the City re-zones the property, there is no going back. I believe the City needs to spend additional time studying the issue and its long-term impact on City. I have heard no proposals on the days the facility would operate, its hours of operation, the costs associated with the damage to the infrastructure caused by heavy truck traffic, the litter which is inevitably discarded from trucks, trailers, etc. travelling the area, the technology that will be used to control the potential environmental damage and odor.

If you want to see how a transfer dump works and whether you would want it next to your home or business, I would suggest spending 30 minutes on a Saturday at the facility in Seven Hills.

  8. That Transfer station was here long before the beautification project.... Why are you waiting untill now to start griping? Nothing will be any different than it is now.

Huh? There is an inert landfill and transfer station for C&D at the proposed site. However, the current proposal before the City is to allow household garbage, not construction debris. If the City approves the application, a betting man would put their money on the County closing its transfer dump in Seven Hills. We will then have one transfer dump in the County where all household garbage will be dumped up to 7 days a week. I think it's safe bet further that over 100,000 pounds of garbage will be dumped there per day. I would say this is slightly different than a C&D transfer station.

Edited to add that my understanding is that the transfer dump for household garbage is not in the same location as the C&D dump. The transfer dump for household garbage will be in addition to the C&D tranfer dump.

  9. TBAR:

I am surprised by the lack of interest from folks about this important local issue, especially those who live, work or visit the City. The dump will be accessed from West Memorial Drive, and back up to Mount Olivet Road. While I personally like the applicant, who is a life-long Paulding resident, nothing would prohibit him from selling the facility to any third party.

  10. Thanks, TBAR. I would be happy to speak with you. Our firm does handle iisues involving construction defects. We're located on the Square in Dallas at 27 Courthouse Square.

  11. Interesting analogy, but I would look at it a little bit different. Intentionally running a red light is wrong, as it threatens the lives of innocent people. Intentionally aborting an innocent baby out of convenience is wrong as well.

Information is, for the lack of a better word, good. I'm not sure that having the government force a pregnant mother to submit to and watch an ultrasound of her baby against her wishes is right. But giving the mother a choice as to whether to submit and watch an ultrasound should be what the pro-choicers are all about, right?

Recently, I saw a news story about 100 or so folks convicted of illegally crossing train tracks in their County. The traffic judge forced the convicts to watch in person what happens when a moving train hits a vehicle. A picture of their faces as they witnessed the collision was worth a thousand words. It was obvious that seeing the reality of the collision gave them a much greater understanding of the conseqences of their actions than a $100.00 fine.

  12. C & M Bank in Hiram. (There are other branches in Douglas County as well). I am on the Advisory Board for the local bank. It is a strong customer-oriented bank where you get local decisions. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach to banking. C & M is a part of Synovus Bank (along with North Georgia Bank and several other banks where you can bank as well because of the Synovus relationship), which is a $30 billion bank. It has the capacity to lend as much money as any bank in Paulding County (and can insure up to $5 million in deposits unlike the typical $100K), but your decisions are made here unlike the big banks. I am very happy and would give it a 10. Call Roseann (branch manager) at 770-943-4348.

  13. I couldn't think of anything else. Had the same problem for my son when he was born, so we just named him the same thing, except he's II instead of Jr. Actually, when I ran for office, I used the name. After I lost, I just kep' it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I didn't even originate my avatar. My oldest accessed my account and thought it would be funny to put an elephant there for my occasional Republican leanings.

  14. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

    Full Story

I'm not defending Gingrich's conduct, but he did not lead the charge against President Clinton. In fact, Gingrich was remarkably quiet about the whole thing, which we now know why. Of course, he did vote to impeach based on the perjury that was clearly committed. Congressman Barr was the lead "prosecutor" against Clinton.

  15. Hi, folks. My family and I are moving to Paulding this year and I would love to find out about any community theatre opportunities. I have fairly extensive experience as an actor and director, both professionally and in community theatre. My primary expertise is in musical theatre. (See http://www.joemturner.com/acting for resume, etc.)

From the posts on this forum, it seems that local theatre has fallen on some hard times lately. Is there still a functioning core group?

Now that I perform for a living, my ability to participate in rehearsal-intensive capacities has diminished, but I'm still a supporter of the art and like to contribute when I can. My one-man conjuring show, Shenanigans, occasionally gets booked as a fundraising event for other community theatres. Maybe that would be some way I could start getting involved out there.

Anyhoo, looking forward to getting out to Paulding and hopefully connecting with the theatre scene.

Welcome, Joe. I would suggest that you contact another P.commer, Princess7 (a/k/a Julie Guy). She's an actress (and also directed the only play I've been in about 2 years ago) and was involved in the local theater. The last production I know of in Paulding was last spring or summer at Chattahoochee Tech.
