  1. Yea I was at that meeting, and you and othrers was treated the same way they treated Pownell this past meeting.

We sure were, even worse. :( Well, you know what they say, Every dog has his day and maybe Jerry's is coming. I also hope that if he is voted out of office all those who have factual information to any wrongdoings in the county will have the courage to come forward with info and proof so that those of us negatively impacted can get some justice.

  2. Hey, I'm not a political operative - Just a regular guy who saw a political figure caught in a lie on one of the most basic and sensitive of subjects - taxes. The video evidence compelled me to speak out against corruption. Mr. Shearin is a tyrant. He was shamed by his duplicity and lashed out against a citizen inquiring about millage rates. I knew nothing about Mr. Shearin or his record, but his behavior in the Commission meeting was downright shameful.

His list of donors appears to be prima fascie evidence of corruption. I didn't know how corrupt until I went to the site that lists all of the donors. Mr. Shearin has quite a racket going! Lying, corruption, malfeasance, cronyism -- We're talking Paulding County here, not Chicago!!

The news media may not take up the story. But I will.

I so agree with you. I now wonder if that is why when those of us from my s/d initially approached the board for assistance in dealing with issues in our homes, they treated us so poorly and turned us away. Could it be that he had dealings with one of the developers involved in our s/d? It sure looks that way.

  3. Todd Pownall is this the person that Jerry was so rude to at the BOC meeting?

yes It's not the first time Jerry was rude at a meeting when asked some questions by his constituents. if you watch the taped meetings, he is rude whenever the question makes him uncomfortable.

  4. Well, everyone and their mother has campaigned door to door through the neighborhood and, generally, my neighbors really know what is going on around here.

No offense Hiramgirl, but sometimes people only know what they want to know. I know in my s/d most have voted early and many have done their own research and it is a majority thumbs down for shearin.

  5. Boyd is not required to step down from the planning and zoning board but said he would to avoid the appearance of any inpropriety. He also said he would like to see the way appointments are made to the board change and has suggested each boc board member appointing one individual from their district, and one from Hiram and Dallas.

  6. Just how many registered and likely voters in Paulding do you think have seen the documents, videos and meeting minutes that you speak of? Not many. I polled neighbors last night at the pool in my neighborhood. Not a one. This is Bentwater - suppose to be one of the most informed neighborhoods in Paulding. Not one knew anything.

Why would they be considered some of the most informed?

Maybe it's time to start emailing the other news channels with links to PCOM postings and asking them to do a story

  7. Could this have been one of the reasons Mrs. Sowers retired in January and didn't wait until the end of the school year???? (Getting thrown under the bus, figuratively speaking)

I wonder ..................There was speculation back then that there was a falling out per se but I have no direct knowledge.

  8. Oh lets see you stated he allowed growth at run a away speed, let's see here. If he had the ability to stop that he would have found himself in court costing more money$$$

Oh let's see here cheap developments like what Bentwater or senators ridge or the Georgian$$

I don't think many people would mind living in those now would they :D now where do you live???what's the difference about your house???Your part of the problem not the solution now aren't you?? You had the right to park your know it all butt here in Paulding why not everyone else.

Now your quick to fire how about giving an educated solution???after all no other county has been able to curve it.

Oh and please let's talk about who is for who and what, for instance. All the people on here me included have no love for the BOE,there the root of all evil right. Well let's throw this in the mix.

David has a fund raiser$$ guess who attends his fund raiser???Trudy Sowers yes you know who she is?

She never attended any of Jerry type greet and meets so read that one

Mike, We all know that you have a special alligience to Jerry. Would you like to admit what that is so people know where your bias may lay?

Oh lets see you stated he allowed growth at run a away speed, let's see here. If he had the ability to stop that he would have found himself in court costing more money$$$

I never said he needed to stop all growth but controlled growth would have been a much better alternative. The cost to the voters in this county has been extravagant compared to the cost of a possible lawsuit over retrictions. This runaway growth has cost every resident in additional splost taxes, loss of time due to congested roads, educational woes including overcrowded schools and lack of adequate supplies for the teachers, due to the surplus of vacant houses property values have declined, crime rates are up, insurance premiums have risen due to the lack of adequate fire protection and our families who are in law enforcement, fire protection and rescue units are severely overworked and underpaid as well as lacking in adequate equipment to do the job properly. If just one of them has a horrible accident while trying to do their jobs under these adverse conditions, what dollar amount would you put on that?? What about all those who have suffered losses due to the inability of the county inspectors to properly inspect their houses? How much do you think those lawsuits will cost the county??? What about all the current lawsuits pending now in court that the county has to defend itself against due to the growth? Anyone want to venture a guess at that cost???

There are many things the county could have/ should have done that would have benefitted those good builders in this county as well as the residents. Controlled growth can happen and has happened in our very own surrounding counties. Matter of public record or just make a phone call. Many have long term plans and controls in place to succeed in these plans. Some of the denials granting excessive growth have been due to limits these counties have set up such as lack of infrastructure, inadequate personnel to inspect properties, etc. Give them a call and ask for yourself. The only one that I know that was sued for denials was Kennesaw and last I heard that lawsuit was withdrawn.

Oh let's see here cheap developments like what Bentwater or senators ridge or the Georgian$$

Many of the s/d's are not those listed above. They are more like Union Station or as us resident like to refer to it as a dumping ground.

I don't think many people would mind living in those now would they :D now where do you live???what's the difference about your house???Your part of the problem not the solution now aren't you?? You had the right to park your know it all butt here in Paulding why not everyone else.

I would not mind living in a well built home or in simpler terms for you, a home built to code and not falling down around me. I would not be part of the problem if my home were built properly and if you are so inclined, then maybe you should tell the builders who are marketing to those of us that came from out of state to stop. I will also let you know that I would be more than happy to park my know it all but somewhere else if you will reimburse me for this piece of crap I am now stuck with. :D

Now your quick to fire how about giving an educated solution???after all no other county has been able to curve it

I already answered this one but there is a web site for county commissioners that is run by the state which gives classes on how to slow growth in the counties. All of our commissioners are part of this website/ group. Ask them why we don't follow the recomendations by their very own peers.

Oh and please let's talk about who is for who and what, for instance. All the people on here me included have no love for the BOE,there the root of all evil right. Well let's throw this in the mix.

She never attended any of Jerry type greet and meets so read that one

I saw here there. I guess she also got sick of Jerry throwing her under the bus ;) Did you know she refused to do anymore business with the facility group???? I wonder what she knows

  9. Excuse me 2 cents lets cash those in misguided one,I suppose Georgia outdoor news would have to know there facts before publishing wouldn't you say?????Well the article about Jerry and the process he worked for to achieve the 7000 acres I would say is a big part his. So he has been in office almost 8 years can't say it was the man before him hugh?????

   Mike, I am falling over laughing.....Thank you so much, I needed that

  10. My Jerry Facts

1.)He allowed new homes to be built without a care to quality or standards or laws costing many homeowners to go into forclosure( too costly to do the repairs) or cost many of these affected homeowners there entire life savings.

When confronted on this issue he praised the building inspector for a job well done!!! (yep, that is what he did when many a homeowner showed up at a county commission meeting to specifically address the multitude of code violations in their homes)

He said their was nothing he could do to help <_< even though surrounding communities including Cobb, Douglas, Carroll, Polk and Haralson all have assisted their homeowners when confronted with the same issues. Many of these counties have taken action against the county inspectors who missed the violations and developers who would not repair. (this is a matter of public record.)

*****To me this shows the inability to supervise and/or properly lead employees under his authority.

2.) He allowed runaway growth to occur all the while claiming their was nothing he could do hurting both the building community as well as the residents living here. Other counties have taken action against runaway growth within the current laws of Georgia through many different initiatives including rezonings from residential to commercial, limiting the amount of permits issued pending infrastructures ability to play catch up, etc.

****** to me this says business as usual is easier than taking some initiative to solve a problem. Problem with a lack of creativity, lack of ability to deal with the developement community without a rubber stamp in his hand. Also, his unwillingness to even see a potential problem spells denial to me.

Wish I had more time but to me Jerry is not capable of adequately supervising employee's underneath him, not capable of proactive thinking or problem solving skills, unable to accept any type of critisism, unable to adequately address the priority concerns of his citizens and incapable of empathy for anyone but himself or his future goals. He does not appear to have the leadership capabilities I would like to see in a candidate.

    Just my 2 cents

  11. Carol, you are right about other counties and states experiencing the same issues during growth spurts. The obvious difference is in how it was handled when brought to the attention of the leaders. In 39 states, there are currently laws to protect homeowners called the homeowners bill of rights. In other states like Georgia there is no state protection and it is bumped back down to the county. In most counties their are local laws to deal with these issues and in those counties where there is no local law governing the situation it falls on the board of commissioners. Douglas county had these issues several years back with a s/d called eagle's nest. They bought back the homes affected, fired and prosecuted the county inspector and created a whole host of regulations to prevent this from happening again. I know Cobb and Gwinnett have also instituted policies to deal with these type of issues including revoking open permits untill violations are corrected, posting of performance bonds, etc. It all goes back to the leadership in the county.

Why not here? Is it special relationships between the developer and county? I can't answer that as I can offer no proof but I do know that white collar crime is the most diffulcult to prove according to the FBI and usually needs citizens who have witnessed or have direct knowledge to come forward. Can it be suspected? Of course!!!

Those homeowners have taken it to every available option including filing suit 5 years ago. It still sits in a Paulding County Courthouse awaiting disposition and in the extreme length of time this case has taken to even get on the docket the builder has managed to go bankrupt. Simply amazing

  12. I will not be voting for Shearin because in my opinion he is an ineffective manager whether it be because of a direct involvement with developement, a total disregard for the bounds of the law or indifference to those he serves. I expect a leader to lead in good times and bad, to accept responsibility when his staff is responsible for failures that harm the citizenship, investigate the reasons for the failures and institue corrective action to prevent reoccurences. It is my opinion that Mr Shearin has not done that, has no wish to do that and will not do that if elected again.

An example ..............Several homeowners discover problems with their new homes. These problems involve several federally mandated minimum building code violations that are present. Problem brought to the attention of the proper developement officials for the county. Homeowners are given a song and dance and then brushed off. Homeowners seek outside guidance in the form of engineers, other builders, inspectors, compile written reports and listed Georgia codes that were active when home was built and again attempt to get resolution with proper county officials. Requests are made through the open records acts for copies of occupancy permits and sign offs during construction, requests that were never made available (reason given = lost). Again, song and dance followed by brush off. Complaint taken to commissioners. Packet mailed detailing issues with homes, reports supporting complaints, action currently taken and results of that action. Packet sent certified mail and signed for by rep of commissioners office. Four weeks pass and have not heard back. Sign up for commissioners meeting six weeks after package received. Several affected homeowners plead with commissioners for assistance in getting some resolution to problems. Commissioner Shearin interupts citizens to commend building inspector for doing a job well done :o and the asks building inspector to brief him on the issue. He states he received the package sent but has not looked at it <_< . Inspector gives commissioner a story and says problem solved. Commissioner brushes off the citizens.

Jerry's way of handling a problem is to deny it's very existance :angry2:

  13. Careful folks. This thread will be selectively moved as well as the other one about David's lack of participation in the debate.

By the way... Why aren't all the threads in County-wide News about politics moved to the Political Discussion section of this board? I know this is Pubby's site and all; however, I'm seeing only a select few threads being moved.

On, and another thing. In most political debates, the questions are predetermined. Political debates are NOT "Town Hall" meetings. Even if the "deck was stacked" according to some, it would have been nice to see David and at least hear his take on these "predetermined" questions asked by "per-chosen moderators" (which is common as well) among a "chosen audience" (what ever the hell that means).

Oh, that's right. I remember the "Jerry Police" standing outside of all the entrances to the school turning away all of David's supporters and only letting Jerry's friends enter so long as they knew the secret password and wore their secret decoder ring.

I am so sick of people saying that "in most" or "everywhere" or "how it's always been done". For some of you, maybe that is true but Paulding's landscape has changed and for many more that is not true. What may have worked in the past does not mean it will work today. I have been to many political debates and both candidates have input in who the moderators are and what the questions are. Usually works out quite well too. I have also seen many debates that offer a percentage of questions from the audience (voters) afterall that is who the debate is supposed to be for.

Jedi, No one said David supporters were being turned away by the police but if that is what you are saying as someone who attended, than I am glad I did not waste my gas to get there.
