J.C. "Jake" Rakestraw, 95, of Hiram, GA, passed away on January 20, 2017. He was born on July 6, 1921, in Dallas, GA, to the late Oscar and Etta Freeman Rakestraw, and was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Estelle Cochran Rakestraw. J.C. was a WWII Veteran, he retired from Civil Service, Atlanta Army Depot, then worked as a Custodian at New Canaan Baptist Church where he was a member and long time Deacon.

Survivors include his son, David & Linda Rakestraw, of Dallas, GA; sister, Frances Jones, of Douglasville, GA; one grandson, Shawn & Cris Rakestraw; one great grandson, Charley Rakestraw; sisters-in-law Monnie & Billy Rainwater, Christine & Dwight Young, Catherine Rakestraw all of Dallas, GA; brother-in- law, Martin & Norma Cochran of Dallas, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the New Canaan Baptist Church, with Reverend Jason Loudermilk officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow the service in Paulding Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Canaan Baptist Church Building Fund, 3147 Atlanta Highway, Dallas, GA 30132.

I miss talking to Jake & David at Martin's during breakfast. In all the time I knew Jake he never had a bad day. His example encouraged me to have a better attitude many days. Jake was a good man.
