4URCRUISE
I will be posting a city a week. Places that you can cruise to besides the Caribbean. Amsterdam is a beautiful city with much to see and do. Here is just an example...... Experience the fun and fascinating World of Vodka: see, taste, and feel! It's the first and only Vodka Museum in Europe. It's an adventure that takes you back in time, from the origins of Vodka, to the world of cocktails and bar-tending today. At the Vodka Museum Bar you can also make a movie about your experience at the Museum and mail it to your friends! There is also a 3-story souvenir shop and a Museum shop selling… 112 sorts of vodka. Make Amsterdam a stop on your next cruise!
surepip
Besides being a fantastic city to just "Walk", it is full of historical gems. The Rijksmuseum [Rikes] is full of works by the great masters, including Rembrant's Nightwatch painting. Madame Trusseau's Wax Museum The Navy museum in an old vessel in the harbor. A canal crusie which also goes around the old part of the harbor is a great way to see many of the sites including the Anne Frank House. And the INFAMOUS Redlight district. Prostitution and Porn is wide open legal in the Netherlands, and Amsterdam has a section of the city which is probably close to a square mile of bars, clubs, stage shows, porn palaces and side streets with the lady's advertising their wares, or lack there of. While attending the VIV Poultry Show in nearby Utrecht, we would enjoy returning to Amsterday for the night and walking around the city after dinner with companions who had never visited there before. I remember one group of Australians [the Aussies are real reserved when it comes to sex] whose jaws litteraly dropped to the pavement as they noticed the scantily clad, or naked ladies in the windows. It was a hoot. Food in Amsterdam is great with lots of little bistros and cafes with fixed price menus. All of the major chains have hotel locations in Amsterdam, but we stay at a tiny hotel 1 block from the Central Station [Train] which was a warehouse. Maybe 15-20 rooms which are relatively large with nice views. A good breakfast is included and it is half the price of the Holiday Inn across the street, If arriving or leaving via Schipol Airport, the KLM Bus picks up at the HI front door so all you have to do is lug your bags across the street and get on the bus which will drop you off at the KLM checkin. Ditto on all the above, except we were not so lucky with our accomodations. It was a neat little boathouse that had been converted to a B&B. No service at all. We have cpap machines, and kept shorting out their power, even with converters. We splurged on our night after the cruise and stayed at the Holiday Inn. Over priced, but you know what you're getting! A VODKA museum?! That's AWESOME! It's close to the SEX Museum! The funniest thing I saw was that the home shopping channels on tv during the day turned to Ho shopping channels at night! Showing pictures and listing their "talents"... We did the 10 day Celebrity British Isles cruise out of Amsterdam. I'd love to do a transatlantic, but so far, they never coincide with work schedules. Legalized drugs and prostitution, sounds like a fun vacation to me. I've always wanted to go to Amsterdam. I just don't fly. I hate flying. And there's no way I'll survive a flight that long. Now a boat would be good as long as I don't vomit every other day.

We splurged on our night after the cruise and stayed at the Holiday Inn. Over priced, but you know what you're getting! I guess we are lucky on the Hotel Sint Nickolus. An Aussie friend first introduced me to them 20+ years ago. The convenience is being SO close to the Central Station, and being able to take the KLM bus to and from Schipol. When we are in Amsterdam, we are normally attending the VIV Poultry Exposition in Utrecht. To stay in Utrecht during VIV will cost you $200+ a night. The Sint Nickolus is like $75. The train tickets to Utrecht on a week pass is less than $30 so it is a big savings. And the Central Station in Utrecht is across the street from the Fairgrounds where the VIV show is held. The current management at the Sint Nikolus is like the 4th or 5th generation down from the original group. We have had nothing but good experiences there and have even stored our luggage with our dress clothes from the show while we go to France or Spain or where ever afterwards for a week. I have always made my reservations though about a year in advance as they stay full if there is anything going on.
