afriendlygeek
Beginning today, you can pre-order Windows 7 upgrade (the replacement for Vista and XP) from Best buy at a substantial savings. This offer will expire on July 11. I have experimented with Windows 7 already and recommend upgrading PC's that are using Vista. For XP users, I think you should stick with XP. There should not be any issues with upgrading from Vista to 7. For XP users there may be some issues if you have an older machine. To see if your computer is capable of running 7, click here. An internal memo from Best Buy that explains the pre-order program is here. The link to purchase from Best Buy is here.

afriendlygeek
I just purchased a pc with Vista on it. What's the deal with the new OS? The thing that impressed me the most was that it is faster than Vista. Do a Google search for "windows 7 review" and you will find plenty of additional information.

In my opinion, you should not upgrade an XP machine. I will not be upgrading mine, but I will upgrade one of my Vista machines. I think the only advantage over XP is better security.
