Hey guys! My parents computer is having some difficulties. I've ran all of my software on it and its cleaned some of the bugs, but not all of them. We keep getting pop-ups whenever you click on a site and its just slowing things down tremendously. So I was wondering if anyone knew of someone who would come out to the house and try to fix it or if I needed to take it somewhere. I'm looking for reasonable prices, cause I know this stuff can get expensive!

I appreciate all the suggestions in advance!

Thanks!

MC

I would run the free version of AVG antivirus software. I have used this several times to clean viruses from my hard drive. Sounds like you've got some hijackers in there. This is the only thing I have come across that got rid of ALL of them. It's free too, so it wouldn't hurt to try. I would run it, then run spybot and adaware....both of them are free too.

MafiaChick,

Once you get all the programs in place and all the files updated. May want to scan your system in "Safe Mode". If you are using windows XP. This is up to you.

"start"

"run"

type in "Msconfig", hit enter

select "Boot.ini" tab

under "Boot option" select "safeboot"

hit " Apply"

Hit "ok"

hit "restart"

system will then reboot into "safe mode"

Run your scan as normal

Once done and all is fixed. (I hope).

then

"start"

"run"

type in "Msconfig", hit enter

select "Boot.ini" tab

under "Boot option" UN select "safeboot"

hit " Apply"

Hit "ok"

hit "restart"

system will then reboot into "normal mode"

It will give you an information box about using "MSconfig".

Select "Do not show again"

select "ok"

Hopefully all will be fine.

MafiaChick,

This puts your PC into a state where there are little or the min. amount of program activity running. Thus allowing items to be removed. As long as a file is in use. It can not be removed. By being in safe mode. It improves the ability to remove bad stuff.

Wish you luck.

MafiaChick,

For future use. Another piece of free software to add. Is this spyware program from Ewido. It is now a part of Grisoft AVG as well.

http://www.ewido.net/en/

Download programs,

update definition file,

put system in safe mode (This step is optional)

run

Only drawback is the free version does not automatically update itself, nor does it run in the background in real time.
