Patrick Bolan, a long-time sports writer for the Paulding Neighbor and other Neighbor newspapers, died over the weekend at his home.

Reports of the death were received by email today and were confirmed at the Paulding office.

We do understand that Bolen had been feeling poorly the last several weeks and had been working out of Marietta for the past month or so. He was discovered in his home on the couch watching TV.

He was well known in local sports circles and was particularly fond of covering Title 9 Issues and sports.

I had worked with Mr. Bolan several years in the 1990's and knew him as an honest, hardworking writer with a particular passion for high school girls basketball, baseball and track.

We do not have access to a formal obituary and do not know about the arrangements for his funeral.

May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Patrick Bolan. He was well known and well liked by East Paulding sports fans and coaches. I got to know Patrick in the last 5 years as he covered Paulding County sports for the Neighbor. Always got tickled with him as he would shuffle over to the scorers table after basketball games, notepad in hand, trying to get information. He was a good man and very kind to the people he came in contact with at the various sporting events he covered. We had wondered where Patrick had been this year. Thought he may have been transferred to another area or county.

God bless you my friend, may you rest in peace.

I had the chance to really get to know Patrick over the last few years. Nice guy. And he knew more about sports than anyone around. He could give you the scores, the "what ifs," the rumors, everything. And it wasn't just pro sports. College was the same way. Local sports had no equal as Patrick was the best.

We'll miss him.
