Dog flu is spreading in several Midwestern states. Dogdaycare centers and veterinary offices are takingprecautions. (April 17) It is a highly contagious strain of the dog flu identifiedas h3n2. Striking in the Midwest, it has infected1,300 dogs in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. The canine influenza virus, like the human variety, can bepassed from pet-to-pet by a sneeze, cough, or nose-to-nosecontact. It can also infect cats. H3n2 can live on surfaces and can be carried on humanclothing and shoes and the symptoms are similar to humaninfluenza: lethargy, fever and loss of appetite.

Out-of-control agricultural fires have killed at least 15 people, injured hundreds more and destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 homes in Siberia. Police say the U.S. Capitol is on lockdown after shots were fired and a suspicious package was found in what appears to be an attempted suicide. (April 11) There is no sound on the video; just a raw clip showing police cars at the base of the west side - the mall side of the building.
