  1. Well, as my sweet husband pointed out "It's only high school football." We will support Coach Goddard and the entire coaching staff. My son plays purely for the love of the game. He's not a superstar and will probably play very little in high school. I suppose if I was super worried about him getting a football scholarship I might gripe some more, but as long as he's happy, I'm happy. My main concern was the seeming disregard for the majority vote, but then that's pretty much how the world runs now anyways so it shouldn't be any real surprise.

  2. I talked to someone on the board last week voicing my concern that a "friend" would be given the job. I was told that the School Board did not make the final decision. The principal had the final vote and the board just voted it in based on that. So this all lies with Viness.

  3. I totally support the boys, but what the heck was the purpose of a selection committee if the principal ignored their recommendation and put his own choice in? I had soooo hoped the "good old boy" system wouldn't come into play with this, but I should have known better. I just hate that this coach will probably retire in a very few years leaving us right back where we started. Sure would have been nice to have a younger, vibrant coach who would grow with the team, even if it meant a couple of off years.

Oh well, once a Raider always a Raider! Let's get this thing going now and see what we can do!

  4. Thanks for a good, long football season! I'm never quite ready for it to end in October! I'm so proud of our boys and all they accomplished this year. My son will be a freshman next season and I can't wait to spend the next four years cheering him on.

And a shout out to the Warner Robins fans who stood behind us on the hill. Very respectful, cheering for their team, but not the least bit obnoxious.

  5. I'm hoping that the decrease in my tax bill will balance out the insane increase in my homeowners insurance when it renewed.

This is the bill I am dreading this summer! I remember reading some companies were going to increase rates by 23%. I am cautiously estimating a $200 increase and hope I am pleasantly surprised with less than that, but I'm not holding my breath.

  6. I just figured up our escrow account and when everything is paid and leaving the required "balance" in the account, at the end of the year we will have over an $800 surplus. Can you call your mortgage company and request an escrow re-evaluation after everything is paid? Are they required by law to refund any extra money if you request it?

Looking at last years escrow analysis it appears they did it in September BEFORE they actually had to pay our taxes and they based it on our previous years taxes. So of course when our taxes ended up being more in November they immediately upped our payment. So if they re-analyze it in September again basing it on last years payment it is going to be way over what we need.

  7. Yea, same here, mortgage escrow is one of the biggest legalized fraud schemes out there IMHO...

My company always calculates my escrow in August, based on the taxes from the year before. So last year's tax drop of $450 because of the value drop wasn't included. Add that to the legal theft of funds that they are allowed to adjust the account so that the balance never drops below *two months* of escrow payments. That two month minimum means that they keep over $900 of my money year round, interest free. Then I figure we have close to $600 extra dollars in the account by now on top of the two months payments because of the tax over estimate meaning $1500 of my money that is not needed to pay the bills is sitting in their bank.

Multiply that by all the mortgages they have and it's quite a racket...

What really ticks me off is the year that our taxes jumped so much, after the tax bill *they* did a unrequested readjustment in November and raised the escow to cover it and added a "shortage" adjustment for the months of Aug-Oct adding insult to injury.

But when taxes go down, do they do that? No..... They have gladly kept all my money.

Ah, this is what happened to us last year! So they use the previous years tax amount to figure out what you need to have for the coming year? Great. Last year our taxes were $1500 and this year they are $1100. So I guess they will keep all that extra money in our account? This is an absolute scam to me!

  8. Our fair market value dropped $7300. According to the paper our taxes should be $1130 this year. Last year they were almost $1500! As it stands we will have about $1200 extra in our escrow at the end of the year AFTER taxes and insurance have been paid. I expect a nice check to get that back.

I do remember reading that hazard insurance premiums will be increasing substantially this year because of all the storm damage repairs over the past couple of years. You can't win for losing anymore. It's gotten to where it takes everything you have to keep your home. God help when repairs come along. We just spent nearly $2000 repairing our insufficient septic system and are about to pay $600 to repair a rotted back door/floor which was the result of poor gutter installation. Not sure we can handle much more right now.

  9. 16 year old will be attending summer softball workouts at the high school twice a week, then swimming and hanging out with her boyfriend in the rest of her free time. 13 year old will have football workouts/camp and then probably play Playstation the rest of the time. 10 year old is probably playing a little summer baseball and then fishing and hanging out with my dad, his Pop, a lot! No family trips planned as we are going to Disney World/Universal Studios for fall break in September.

  10. I think my son is slowly starting to realize that football is pretty much going to be a year-round thing for him. When I told him about the meeting he said "Didn't we just finish?" Ha! He's excited though and so are we! Go Raiders!!! :yahoo:

  11. i tell you what, my nerves are already giving me fits. last week was rough, i'm not sure i'm gonna make it. Nick is cool as a cucumber, very focused. Me ........basketcase  8P  :80

You will be fine. What time are y'all heading up there? Mapquest gave travel time of one hour and 40 minutes or something like that. Hopefully traffic won't be too bad being the day after Thanksgiving.

He better be cool and focused! I've told a certain daughter of mine not to bother him too much this week :)

  12. thank you very much, we do have some great young men. My son was out there all week with the boys and he really enjoyed helping out. This new middle school program should be a huge success.

I know! Your son rode in the car with me to practice yesterday :D I have a new secret identity!

And by the way your son is the nicest, most polite kid I think I've ever met. He even offered to carry my chair to the car. My own husband doesn't do that half the time.

  13. A big thank you to Coach Reid and all of the coaches and high school guys who ran the 7th/8th grade football camp this week. My son had a great time and learned so much in just three short days. He is so excited to get started with practices and get the new teams rolling.

We really appreciate all of the hard work that has gone in to making sure our boys have a quality football program.

I was very impressed with the high school boys who took time out of their summer to come and work with our boys. I know my son enjoyed hanging out with the "older guys" and he really thrived on their encouragement. EPHS has some stand up young men!

  14.  come on girl, putup your dukes and have some fun :aggressive: :p

No bets needed! K96W8 is a super nice person and I overstepped my boundaries. My comments were never meant personally towards this young man. I was speaking mainly in general how crazy and over the top some parents get with sports. I should have started a different thread if I wanted to complain as it really had nothing to do with this situation. Sorry guys! I'm learning as I go along. Good luck to the young guy wherever he plays! I hope he makes it to the pros!

  15. wow, aren't you just a trouble maker  !!! Wanna go to Applebee's  :spiteful:

Ha, ha! It was kind of scary but exciting! I don't like to make people mad though. I don't think I'll say anything else. I'm really a very nice person I just sometimes get bored and start typing.

Please no one take me too seriously! It is none of my business what any parent does for the good of their child. It was fun to spar a bit though!!! Back to my cave.

  16. I understand that totally. My advice to kids in sports, getting out on the field and practice, practice, practice will benefit them more than anything. As a parent, build confidence and persiverance through their sports. Be VERY involved in who you put your children in front of and use your parental decernment to choose the best path. Good luck with your kiddos.

Thank you! The whole thing ties me up in knots sometimes. You want to do the right thing, but it's easy to get caught up in all of the hoopla about what other people are doing. I like your attitude about practice and feel the same way. Best of luck to your child as well. Sounds like they have a super supportive parent in you and that's what is most important.

  17. All kids do have a chance to be great. Your criteria shouldn't be based upon what others do or say. My kid had a 1/2 year of travel ball and never any private lessons and I think he is one of the top sophomores in the county.

So if a kid has a better opportunity than yours, you complain and think it isn't equal treatment?

    Your statements really contridict themselves.

Thank you for sharing that about your child. It makes me feel better about my own kids chances. Honestly, I have heard over and over if we don't do travel ball or invest in lessons they won't have much chance in high school. But, you have shown me that's not always the case. I like to hear about kids like yours who do well without all of the extras. It gives me hope.

I'm not complaining about a kid getting a better opportunity. Everyone has different things that are important to them. I apologize for sounding hateful. As I said before my kids are still young and in the early stages of sports. I'm learning the ropes as we go. It is just hard not to think "wow" about the amount of money some people put into it. Sometimes my disbelief comes out sounding bitter and discontent.

  18. If your kid was a talented as this kid you might see things differently. Do you know this family? I don't think so since most of your comments are wrong. What they spend money on, where they live, or go to school really doesn't affect your kids chances in sports at all does it?

Yay! I've finally sparked negativity with a comment. I was so tired of being Ms. Nice all the time! I'm not mad though. It's fun to disagree! Keeps life fun!

Nope, I don't know them. Nope, their life has no bearing whatsoever on mine or my kids lives. But, being that this is a public board I do have the right to give my view on things. And for the record my two sons are actually quite talented football and baseball players who have never had the benefit of private anything. They come by it naturally. Whether that will take them anywhere in the future I have no idea. My point was that I find it unbelievable that folks would move because of high school sports. I am quite aware that I am naive in this area as my children aren't to that point yet, but even if they are the most fantastic players in the world I can assure you we would not move for them to play ball. I know, I know. I sounded like a bitter old fart who whines about folks with money getting more out of life. Sorry! If people can afford to do those sorts of things for their kids more power to them. I've just been party to many a conversation that has me believing my kids won't have a chance to do anything if we don't play travel, do private lessons, etc., This bugs me because I think all kids should have a chance to be great, but these days it seems your only chance is if you can pay big bucks.

Again, no hard feelings on my part. Just giving my two cents. And it was not directed personally at any particular person, just my view of some of the stuff that goes on with sports as a whole.

  19. WOW! And my scrawny little 12 year old just wants to play because he loves football more than anything in this world. I can't even fathom moving my family or renting a house in another district to give my child an advantage in sports. If that's how it's played out in the higher levels I guess my kids will never make it to the big time. It's sad to think that hard work and a heart for the game used to be what got a kid places. Now it's how much money mom and dad shell out for private lessons when they are eight, how many specialized camps you can afford to send your child to and I guess now who can best afford to move to a better school district. I know I sound snarky, but it chaps my fanny how today's athletes are built from the ground up by those who have the money. No, we can't afford to send our three kids to all of that stuff, but I sure want them to have the same chance as everyone else.

  20. What can you tell me about this Mathnasium place? I have an 8th grader who is borderline possibly not going to pass the CRCT which is a must. She has struggled the past two years and I would really like to give her a firm foundation before she's off to high school as well as give her the best possible chance of passing the CRCT the first time.

How often does your child go and I hate to even ask, but is it really expensive? I hate to put a price on my child's education, but some things are out of reach for us. Have you noticed an improvement in their math skills?

I appreciate any information you could share.

  21. I guess I'm just getting old, but I am SO over material stuff. We have had really bad times and really good times in the almost 16 years my husband and I have been married. Right now we are doing o.k. He just got a new job with stable, reliable income every two weeks as opposed to crazy commission that never paid our bills. For once in a great while I can actually go buy some things here and there and not have to worry about it, but I just don't want to.

Every day I am so amazed at the consumerism of people. From having the biggest, fanciest car to eating out X amount of times a week to wearing only top brand clothing. The list goes on and on as to what we will spend our money on. Don't get me wrong, I like to have special things from time to time, but in the grand scheme of things all of this stuff is just that, STUFF! When you leave this old world you're not taking any of it with you.

I'm not trying to sound like a martyr who wears seed sack dresses and eats roots, but I am over feeling like I have to have stuff to feel good about myself or my life. I've spent many years as a slave to buying and feeling like less of a person because I can't have this, go there or give my children that. Those days are over. Today I am thankful for our health. I am super thankful for our modest, affordable home that we can manage the payments on. I am thankful for my 14 year old paid for mini-van that faithfully gets me where I gotta be everyday. I am thankful for the food God blesses us with. I am thankful for my three precious children and their love and affection. I am thankful for my husband who works every day without complaint.

This is in no way a jab at anyone because they like to go out to eat, get their nails done or go to the tanning bed, things the original poster mentioned. It's simply my public admission that I am over this stuff. It doesn't make me happy any more. Life makes me happy! All of those other things are just temporary diversions that quickly fade away. There is nothing wrong with any of it and I enjoy eating out and seeing movies just like everyone else, but every day I realize more and more that it's family and friends, love and laughter that make me happy.

  22. There might be a very good reason for having so many openings. My husband worked there for a few months several years back. It is a long and very intense process to be hired. Once you get on there be prepared for a very, very stressful job. My husband just could not deal with the massive multi-tasking combined with the stress of having peoples lives depending on his efficiency. He admitted defeat and found something else.

Big rounds of gratitude, love and hugs to those awesome folks who can deal with the stress and provide this invaluable service. I'd never be able to handle it myself.

I do remember my husband getting frustrated with the amount of crazy, non-emergency calls he had to field on a daily basis. He said that kind of stuff got in the way of true emergencies.

Good luck to anyone who gives it a shot!
