  1. FYI: The man that she worked for is no longer in that position and he no longer holds public office.

My issue is that Ms. Morrison's boss holds public office I don't think it is fair to him to claim he is saying these things.

My bias always lays with leadership that will be good for the county, what is good for the majority of the county is always good for me.

You are welcome to ask any elected official in this county if I have ever ask a favor or used this site as leverage against them.

I expect anyone running for office to be at least 1/2 as informed as I am about county business.

  2. How did she not? She said that she had many people recommend that she run and she is doing it to help bring representation to the district and help to correct the injustice she sees in the gold dome. I was able to understand the reason why she decided to join into the race. If you ever speak to her in person (or over the phone), you will understand how fired up she gets over the corruption and abuse of power currently happening in D19 and in the House.

That was guard dad's question. Mine is in post 51. I asked "This is all well and good but how would you pay for transportation plans and indigent care when the state's revenues have been down?"

  3. You still didn't answer my question.

    Thank you for asking.

My primary motivation has been the number of people I know in District 19 who have been asking me long before I retired in February, “Why don’t you run for the District 19 Seat ?, And their numerous reasons for asking”

    So I am running.

My husband and I moved our manufacturing business here in 1989, and we know what a convenient place Paulding is for such businesses. We actually brought 2 other European companies with us as we only needed half the building at that time. Unfortunately for the county, when it came time for us to utilize the entire building after their leases expired, there were no other places for them to rent in Paulding. So they moved to Illinois and Oklahoma.

While working for the State Ag Department, I saw first hand what other counties were doing to attract industry, warehousing, manufacturing, etc., and how little Paulding was doing. From my 25+ years dealing with International businesses allied to the poultry industry I know and understand what these companies are looking for and what needs to be done to bring them to Paulding.

My goals under the Goal Dome

Return Honesty and Integrity to the District 19th Representative Seat.

Bring true Constitutional Conservative Values to the Seat

Work to clean up our [non-existent] Ethics Commission and to provide it with Legislation to severely penalize Politicians and Lobbyists who choose to abuse the system.

True Economic Development…..not just fast food and big box stores,…..retail that just re-circulates existing money actually becomes more of a burden on the infrastructure instead of helping pay for it.

I will work to modify the qualifications for the Economic Tier System so that Paulding can qualify as a Tier 2 level county instead of Tier 3 just because we abut Cobb, a Tier 4 county. This severely penalizes Paulding and gives Haralson, Polk, Bartow and Carroll and undue advantage over us.

  4. This is all well and good but how would you pay for transportation plans and indigent care when the state's revenues have been down?

Thanks for some tough questions. I will do my best to answer such pertinent issues.

Yes we need help with transportation infrastructure, improvements and paying for it. Anyone coming through the Hiram Sprawl at 5:30 in the afternoon can see that.

Economic Development if Paulding, bringing business ventures here with manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, etc., instead of just retail will go a long way to helping our traffic problems by creating jobs which pay well here in Paulding.

Paulding already has public transportation. Mr Richardson and Shearin cut that deal with the GDOT 10 years ago bringing the GRTA Bus system to Hiram. It is well used. I personally road the GRTA Bus to and from Movies 278 to my job at the Ag Department across the street from the Gold Dome for 5+ years, 5 days a week. It is a well used system as I often had to stand on the bus which left downtown at 4:30. It is too bad these buses only run in the early morning and late afternoon.

If elected I will continue to promote, and personally use GRTA to get to and from the Capitol instead of burning gas in my car and charging the state mileage.

I have to agree is seems foolish to freeze the gas tax option at a time the price of gas is going down. Kind of like closing the barn door after all the horses got out.

But that is indeed the governor’s prerogative.

Indigent care is becoming more and more of a hardship on the local communities, including Paulding. At the present time we basically have 2 choices…..

1]Turn them away and let them die in the streets

2] Subsidize it, and work for solutions to pay most or all of the costs through a Medicare or Healthcare system.

I would have a hard time turning away a child with a broken limb, or other disabling painful injury.

But what are the real alternatives if not a public healthcare system of some sort to supplement PeachCare/Medicaire ?

What do our citizens suggest we do to handle these situations ?

  5. Personally, I find this "what has he done for me" mentality to be rather disturbing. Whoever the new Senator for District 31 turns out to be, they will be elected to represent the ENTIRE District, not just Paulding County. Somehow we seem to have gotten the idea that we're more than the other counties in the District.

I'm not here to defend Heath, but I do know that he led a committee which overhauled the states tax code to lower taxes for working families and increase the competitiveness of Georgia companies.

Granted, Heath is a staunch conservative, so if you're not conservative (which many on Pcom appear not to be) I understand why you wouldn't like him.

Thank you very much for this post. It is not just Paulding Counties Senate seat and it is silly to assert that it is.

Carruth has been in the class of folks that has been contributing to politicians. Also as a board member and chairman of DNR, he was connected with and engaged in lobbying for issues of importance to that department.

Now I can appreciate the importance of seniority but what I appreciate more are results ... and that's what I don't see happening for Paulding with our present lack of representation.

It is Paulding's senate seat, BTW.

    pubby

You have lost your mind. Carruth is a better candidate since he gives money (which, apparently, he would rather default on a loan first) and he is engaged in lobbying? If this was anyone else posting this crap, you would rip them apart.

  6. Interesting. The way I understand it, the Georgia Constitution will allow them to run holding public debts but they can't hold office with public monies being owed.

Pubby's is doctored - James N. Hatten is correct name of the Clerk of the Court on the Application for Writ.

Attached is a correct copy of the Application for Writ that was entered by the Court. I uploaded it about two minutes ago.

That it precisely what it means.

Also, Pubby made a comment that it is unusual for a case to proceed through the federal courts in less than 10 months - he is absolutely correct. EXCEPT, when the defendants (in this case the Carruths) do not file an answer to a properly served complaint, a default judgment can be entered. That is what happened in this case.

  7. To the average person, what does this mean? Carruth has to pay 2.3 million?

Here is a summary of the lawsuit. All of the information that I have obtained has been directly from the Pacer link to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Pubby, if you need to see actual, filed copies of any of the pleadings, PM me - I have a login and password that allows me to see and download these pleading.

10/11/2011 - FDIC files a Complaint alleging a breach of a promissory note executed by Bill and Laura Carruth.

11/1/2011 - Bill and Laura Carruth were served.

1/9/2012 - The FDIC is ordered to file motions to dispose of the case (because no answer had been filed by the Carruths).

1/13/2012 - FDIC files a Motion for Clerk's Entry of Default

1/26/12 - FDIC files a Motion for Default Judgment

2/9/12 - A Joint Motion to Extend Time for Filing a Response was filed by the parties.

    2/13/12 - Extension granted

2/29/12 - Motion for Extension of Time for Filing a Response filed by the Carruths

    2/29/12 - Extension granted through 3/20/12

4/27/12 - Motion for Default Judgment GRANTED (not Response to the Motion for Default was filed by the Carruths)

4/27/12 - Default Judgment entered in favor of FDIC

5/30/12 - Application for Writ of Execution (of the judgment) filed by FDIC

6/1/12 - Writ of Execution issued in the amount of $2,351,661.86 for plaintiff Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation against defendants William A. Carruth Jr. and Laura A. Carruth.

ETA: The case has proceeded through the Court (without the filing of a responsive pleading by the Carruths - they merely requested extensions of time to file a response to the motion for default judgment, but that's it). They were represented by counsel and chose for whatever reason not to respond to the allegations in the Complaint nor to contest a default judgment being entered against them. The default judgment was entered on 4/27/12 - I believe the time for the Carruths to appeal has passed. The docket sheet with the Court does not indicate that an appeal was filed (and it would if one had been filed).

  8. I was told today when I reported to work that I no longer had a job!!!!

I share the cash register with three other employees. And we are all three are key holders. I was the one to get the boot when the deposit for one day comes up missing. I was told that they were going to keep my pay check for two weeks is this legal can they do this. Do I need an attorney. HELP!!!!

They can fire you but not keep your check. I would contact the Georgia Dept. of Labor.

  9. I agree with this completely!! Unfortunately, my schedule (and my daughter) have prevented me from being able to volunteer for either of the sales. Because of this, I have absolutely no issue with paying the $7.00 seller fee and the 30% consignment fee. Again, I'm making way more from this sale (even with those fees) than I would by taking the stuff to a consignment store or by having a yard sale. And, this isn't a bad deal -- there are sales that charge a 40% consignment fee and it isn't discounted even if you do volunteer.

Keep up the great work, Doreen, there are a lot more people out there that appreciate this sale than there are critics.

Wait, someone is fussing over a $7.00 seller fee? Is that correct?

I have been to the sale and have always come away with great items. Yes, you have to pick through it sometimes but it is much better than yard saling.

  10. Saporo's is now open. Went last night and it was GREAT!

Saporo's is worth the price if the new one is anything like the one on Dallas Hwy.

As far as I know, there aren't any good sit down Chinese places in Paulding anymore. Now as far as the quick strip mall places, the one at the Ridge Rd. Kroger, China Wok, is really good.

The Chinese place on Dallas Hwy, that was mentioned before, is now under new management/ownership and isn't as good as it once was. It used to be my favorite. :(

  11. I was amazed in learning most golf courses are not big money makers. It's too bad. I really love the layout of that golf course. They must have a difficult time getting people to return and play again. We played back in early July and it took 7 hours to complete the round. It was so slow and so hot. The staff is wonderful. You can't find a nicer group of people. I hope they make it.

The problem is the way the current outfit financied the purchase of the course. There is a huge balloon payment due soon.

  12. Really interested in this subdivison. I think its in foreclosure. Does anyone know the builder or who owns them?? It is off of Jane Harris Rd.

I walked through a couple of the houses last week when we were looking. I was not impressed with the quality, honestly. I can see why they are in foreclosure.
