  1. There won't ever be a Red Lobster in Paulding. They decided we weren't their "clientele". "We" prefer bass and bream cooked in cormeal over an open fire. "They" serve "Blackened MahiMahi and Coconut Shrimp". "They" prefer BMW's and Lexus's and Cadillacs in their parking lot. "We" drive muddy 4WD's and rusty Camaro's. We are lucky to have a Longhorn's.

  2. Just got my computer out of the shop. It cost $170.00 to have myspace viruses and youtube viruses removed and the files cleaned up. The tech said all of the problems my computer had were directly related to myspace. Beware!

  3. My other computer is in the shop. I was told it is infected by the "Myspace" virus. Screen was full of pop-ups, my pop-up catcher was "turned off" by the virus, and I couldn't access the home page controls to turn it back on. Then the internet properties began changing all by itself, and soon after EVERY program would crash. Then I started getting the "Blue screen of death" and that was it. I wouldn't reccommend Myspace to anyone. Make the kids read a book or get a job to pass the time.

  4. Yes! The 'ole 3-4-5 triangle! It is called pythagoreams theorem (A squared + B squared = C squared).

4 squared(16) plus 3 squared (9) equals 5 squared (25). Basic 10th grade geometry! I use it all the time at work. If you don't know this simple rule, you can't build a square house. B)

  5. FYI,

Sugar dirt will pack if moist, but becomes crumbly and unstable when dry. Also, sugar dirt contains lots of mica. Mica is a form of silica, thus making it not stick well. It's great digging dirt with a shovel, though.

  6. Maybe we have taken the wrong approach. Are there actually zoning LAWS in this county or are they just guidelines or rules. If the latter, then I guess there is some discretion involved. But if there is in fact a LAW which prohibits a commercial business from operating on property which is zoned residential, and there is a LAW which prohibits a permanent structure from being erected without a building permit, then that LAW should be enforced by the "powers that be". I have been to zoning meetings before and have heard cases where zoning was denied and special use permits denied because of neighborhood opposition. So this guy just IGNORES THE ESTABLISHED PROCESS and builds his garage and operates his business in his yard anyway. Now there is neighborhood opposition and NOTHING is being done about it. We are in the 21st century, folks! Corruption in government is in the news everyday (Bill Campbell, Linda Scherenko, etc.) but I don't like it when it might be this close to home. As a former executive with a commercial builder, we pulled building permits all over the U.S. and Canada. Every municipality has slightly different procedures, but I'm here to tell you folks, getting a building permit in Paulding County, Georgia is easy! Most of the time the process involves a zoning review, which insures the type of building to be erected is O.K. for the current zoning of the land. This, evidently is not the case here. If the property owner had follwed the proper procedures, he would have had to rezone his property to commercial before erecting a garage in his yard for an auto repair business, before the building permit was issued!

In my former neighborhood, years ago in another county, I was in opposition with my other neighbors to an Auto Zone being planned for the vacant lot behind our street. The developer arranged a meeting for us to voice our opinions and he was overwhelmed by the attendance. Things got real quiet when I asked him

for the specifics on waste motor oil containment (a known carcinogen) and battery acid containment. He asked why I would be concerned about that. I explained to him that since the store would be basically adjacent to my back yard, I didn't want my kids playing in dirt that was contaminated with waste motor oil and battery acid after a hard rain. He had no answer. His zoning request was denied. His building permit was denied. There is not an Auto Zone on that lot today. Its a real estate sales office.

There would not be an Auto Repair business at the intersection of Morris Rd. and Cleburne Pkwy. had there been a zoning meeting. The neighors would have shown up in droves and opposed it. But it operates today because of ignorance. Ignorance of the law by the property owner AND elected government officials. :(

  7. The signs have been taken off the road, but business as usual continues. Now, apparently the "property owner" doesn't "run" the business, just provides a place for his "friend" to run his business. The property owner is probably too busy fighting "other" fires. Seriously folks, what is this doing to neighborhood property values? If your home was for sale, how many people would want to buy your house if you were next door, across the street, or even down the street from a home that constantly has a dozen or so automobiles parked in the yard and driveway in various states of disrepair? I know from experience that there is plenty of NOISE generated from an auto shop. I used to run one. Welding, air tools, compressors, hammering, etc.

Would you put up with this? When I'm at home, I expect to hear wind, rain, birds singing, dogs barking, children playing, lawnmowers, radios, television. Not much more than that! B)

  8. Bigo! It HAS been done. WITHOUT zoning, WITHOUT a building permit! Right here in Paulding county. The best part is: The owner WORKS for Paulding County! But, when you call the zoning office, they tell you to call the Marshall's office, who tells you to call zoning again... Get my drift? Is it because the owner is a Paulding Goverment Employee???

When I worked in general contracting, the first thing we did was obtain and post a building permit, before any ground was broken or any equipment moved to the lot. Now, apparently this is no longer the case. I have even heard of a homeowner being required to tear down a newly completed addition to his home that was built without a permit. Then he had to properly obtain the permit, and rebuilt the addition. Tell me more!

  9. Does anybody know if a Paulding resident can open a commercial business in a neighborhood? I thought there were zoning laws in place to protect against this, but apparently you can just open your business without regard for zoning, put a sign in your front yard, and run your business! So, IF I decide to open an auto salvage yard in my front yard, the neighbors in my cul-de-sac will just have to deal with it??? I want to know your opinions and will elaborate later.

P.S. What if I build a building/office in my side yard for my business without a building permit?

  10. F.Y.I.: Bats marked Tee Ball or T Ball can shatter or crack if they are used to hit a ball that is pitched. They are only designed to hit a ball off a tee. In Paulding county, the ONLY league that hits off tee's are 3&4 year old (Tiny Tots). 5&6 year olds have the choice of hitting a coach pitched ball or off a tee, therefore a bat marked Tee Ball cannot be used. I have always made it a habit of telling my parents at the first practice about this so as not to waste their money on the wrong bat. I have seen videos of what happens to a tee ball bat when swung at a pitched ball and it is dangerous. Pieces of sharp metal came flying out of the bat and the end or barrel went flying towards the dugout! This rule is for safety of players, coaches, umpires and fans. A good umpire will check bats before or during games to make sure they are legal. As a coach I've had parents become angry when an illegal bat was discovered being used and the child was told to change bats. Again, this rule is only for their safety.

  11. 20x40 inground with slide, diving board, heater, auotomatic cleaner, all accessories and the mesh safety cover will run about 25 grand. That doesn't include additional fill dirt or underground gas pipes to the heater. Good luck, mine is beautiful but was a pain getting it installed.

  12. Tango,

Please, don't believe everything you hear or read. There is dirt that could be posted about every youth sports association in this county. Very little is true, though and is usually just someone's opinion. In my opinionthey all do a good job. I have coached at 5 parks in ten years. The reasons that I left them vary, but they all have one common goal and that is to provide a wonderful experience for the youth of this county. The difference is really due to the participation of the parents. If one is the type of parent who just drops their kids off, picks them up, and shows up occasionally for a game or two, and a park has too many of these, then that park will suffer. Every park needs parents to participate, whether it be coaching, field maintenance, concession, team moms and dads or board members. It is impossible to have that big of a group of people and not have conflicts and differences of opinions. My suggestion to you is to pick a park that is nearby, get involved and make a difference. The kids will benefit in the long run.

To answer your question, only Ridge Road, New Georgia, Dallas and Union will be offering Fall baseball as of today. Tiny Tots (3 & 4 year olds) usually is not offered in the fall, but if there is enough for 3 or 4 teams, who knows! Good luck to you and your child. I'm staying at Ridge Road because I know the truth, and not just someones disgruntled opinion.
