  24. Mrs. Zuma Holland Bullock, age 100 of Dallas, GA passed away on June 14, 2018 at Presbyterian Village, Austell, GA.

    Zuma Holland Bullock (12/21/17 – 6/14/18)

Zuma Bullock was born and lived in Dallas, GA. She was the 5th child of Henry Young Holland and Beatrice Griffin Holland of Dallas, GA. After her mom’s death in 1918 from the flu epidemic she was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. W.R. (Bella) Griffin, father and stepmom Grace Owens Holland Johns. Zuma was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Eugene H. Bullock (1983), son, Robert E. Bullock (2002), sister Lois Wills, and brothers Ned Holland, Ralph Holland and Van Holland. She is survived by her son, Richard Alan Bullock, his wife, Cindy M. Bullock and Bob’s wife, Mary Bullock Warren-Angelucci, as well as 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren!

During High School, Zuma represented Paulding County in the Ms. Georgia pageant. She then attended Draughn Business School and worked in Atlanta. Zuma and Gene were married on Zuma’s 24th birthday, December 21, 1941 at an impromptu wedding after church, due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7. Zuma and Gene spent the next years of their life living across the US, while Gene served as a Naval Air Pilot flying missions in the Pacific. While stationed in Honolulu, Gene would send orchids back to Zuma through his Navy officer friends to their home in Oakland, California. Even though the war years were an incredibly difficult time, they always spoke optimistically about those years and the many friends they made.

After the war years, Gene and Zuma excitedly returned to Dallas, where they followed in their family’s footsteps and purchased a business (Economy Auto) on the square in Dallas, GA in 1949. Gene and Zuma then purchased Gene’s dads business (EH Bullock Dry Goods) after his death in 1960. The business became known as Bullock’s Department Store. Gene and Zuma worked side by side in the business (1949-1983) for 34 years until Gene’s death in 1983. It was truly a family business as Bob, Alan and many of their friends worked in the business during their school years. After Gene’s death, Zuma along with Christine Cochran, ran the business until 1987. During these business years, the family was involved in every aspect of the community and Church.

Zuma’s life was defined by her faith in God. Her faith carried her through many difficulties in life. It saw her through the loss of a mom, siblings, a husband and a son. But no matter how difficult the situation, she would simply say “God has blessed me every day of my life.” Zuma was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, GA, where she taught Sunday School in her early years. She was a quiet lady of dignity that showed unlimited affection to her family and friends. She taught her children and grandchildren the most important lesson in life – unconditional love.

Her selfless commitment to family was amazing. Her life was one of service and care for others. She was the primary caregiver in later years to her mom, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, and her husband, who was blind during the last 4 years of his life. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent much time helping care for them and vacationing with them. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. She lived her life based on the three F’s – Faith, family and friends!

The celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church at 401 Main Street, Dallas, GA 30132 at 11:00 am on July 20, 2018. The services will be conducted by Rev. Don Rackley and Zuma’s family members. Interment will be in Dallas City Cemetery at 4pm. Pallbearers will be: Brian Bullock, Brad Bullock, Ben Bullock, Richard Bullock, Ryan Rodgers, Gene Smith. The visitation will be immediately after the funeral service at the old “Bullock store” on the square in Dallas, GA, where a lunch reception in Zuma’s honor will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Dallas, GA Building Fund.
