  1. Have y'all heard of what's called human chameleons?

Apprently, it sort of like a reverse twin. Instead of one embryo splitting into two people, two embryos fuse into one person. It has to happen very early in gestation and it's very rare (or at least not well documented).

The result is a seemingly normal person with two sets of DNA. Some organs in the body will be mostly from one egg, some from the other and some will be from both.

One lady was told her three kids were not hers because the DNA in her blood did not match her kids' DNA.

Anyway, sometimes a girl embryo and a boy embryo will fuse.

I suppose if the brains of these boy/girl people were primarily male or female while their "bits and peices" were the opposite sex, they could be pretty confused (no pun intended).

  2. Speaking as a former Den Leader, CubMaster and Committee Chair...Freebird is right. Hit up the grocery stores.

Make a shopping list of EVERYTHING you need (charcoal, hotdogs, plates, buns, condiments, cookies, etc., etc., etc.).

Take the list to Kroger and Publix along with a letter on Pack letterhead asking for the donation. Pick one to go to first and what you don't get becomes the request for the other one.

Remember, you can always get the bread at the thrift store (they might give it to you, too) along with some sweet items for dessert and snacks. You might even want to hit them up first since what they have to offer is limited.

Don't be afraid to ask for a small payment to go camping. If you don't they'll sign up to come and then not show up. Trust me on this... I assume it's family camping so the only people who pay are the parents and siblings. The scouts can go free.

If you have any questions or need any additional advice I'll be happy to share my experiences with you.

Anyway, we hit up the local grocery stores for donations when needed. They are usually good to help with projects that serve others.

  4. You can do it. I have four suggestions:

    1) Look for a Mother's Morning Out program at a local church. They can often provide cheap part time day care so you can get things done without having to worry about the kids.

    2) In fours years they will all be in school. Take a light load until then to keep your mind sharp and when they start school you'll be well on your way to finishing.

    3) Be patient. Set your goal and then make steady progress toward it. Don't be tempted to "take a break". It will happen.

    4) Don't have any more kids!

I am a 22 year old mother of three. I have a tech seal high school diploma. I'm currently applying at online colleges, so that I can stay home with my kids and still get some sort of college education. To tell yall the truth I dont know if I can do it. I have two 12 month olds and one 23 month old. I'm not scared of hard work, just dont know if it can be done with kids this young. What do yall think?
  5. I've noticed the same thing.

I think it's because the county is in transition from "small town" to "big city".

In a small town there is no competition, so the motive for good service is the personal relationship you have with your customers. Because Paulding has grown so fast it has become somewhat anonymous so the normal small town motive for good service is missing. You're not going to see that customer in church Sunday, and if he never comes back someone new to the county will walk into the store and take his place.

Paulding has not grown so much, however, that competition for business has taken hold as a motive for providing good service. Have you ever noticed that Home Depot and Lowes seem to follow each other around and that the drugstores do the same? I think they know that competition will help their employees do a better job.

  6. TBAR,

That's a really neat article. It would be great if it was true!

I have a mechanical engineering degree, and it did not sound plausible for a home charged device to store enough electricty in 5 minutes to go 500 miles. I don't doubt the device they patented could do it, but I doubt a typical home could deliver power that fast.

To see if my gut reaction was right I ran a few figures:

    1) It would take about 150 kilowatt hours of electricity to go 500 miles at 50 MPH. (1 HP = .746 kilowatts. It takes about 20 HP to cruise at 50mph. Going 500 miles at 50 mph takes 10 hours. 20*.746*10=149.2)

    2) For that much electricity to be stored in 5 minutes, would require power to be delivered at a rate of about 1800 kilowatts.

    3) 1800 kilowatts is what is required to run 30 thousand 60 watt light bulbs! 1800 kilowatts is equvalent to a 2400 HP motor!

    4) A typical home has 240 volt/150 amp service. That's about 24 kilowatts, so it would take about 6.4 hours to charge the car using 100% of the power that can be delivered to a typical home.

At first, these numbers make it sound unreasonable, but then I got to thinking about it some more. Who says you have to charge your car at home? A 5 minute charge time would work really well for "charging stations" modeled after gasoline filling stations. They could have a much higher voltage and amperage delivered to them.

My guess is that for everyday commutes you could charge your car at home, but for long distance driving you'd rely on commercial charging stations.

A final fact for those who might be wondering...at typical rates (8.5-9 cents per kwh), it would cost about $13 to charge your car at home. That's like having a care that gets 100 mpg!

Let's hope these guys are on to something!

    Have a nice day,

    Now this could be promising.

  7. I started guitar about 11.

My son started piano at about 5.

I'd say sooner is almost always better than laterbut find a teacher and ask them...

    How old is your son?

Remember, too, that some of his interest might be due to the attention your friend paid to him today.

So, my son has always shown interest in music, but never really showed the focus...so, my ex left a practice drum over here and my friend that is also a drummer was hanging out with us today and taught my kid how to do these counts and beat on the practice drum. Interestingly, the practice drum doesn't make noise, it just gives the feel of a drum head. I thought that he would bore of this non-noise maker nearly instantly, but he's been beating on it all day! And actually trying to do what my friend taught him!

So...my buddy is going to teach him some stuff, but I'm wondering if it might be time to get him lessons?? His dream is to be a rock star!

  8. My guess is a failed video card (I had a customer with similar problems last week). The easier way to find out is to replace the card and see what happens.

A new card costs about $50 and installation should be around $25 at a computer shop.

Ok I have a Dell PC and a Dell Flat Screen Monitor -- For about a week my screen flashes and the works and graphics get pixely -- The computer screen will freeze every once in a while -- Like just now it did it while I was typing this -- well twice now -- any ideas??? My computer is about 4 -5 years old --
  9. Lady Raider,

If I'm not mistaken TBAR pays for some sort of service which alerts him to news articles that meet certain criteria.

I suspect the key here is that a fundamentalist pastor was involved.

TBAR frequently posts stories about fundamentalists who are crazy, stupid or extreme. I won't hazzard a guess as to his motive for posting them.

I also won't try to guess why AnonyMoose decided to attack Catholic Priests.

    Have a nice day,

    JA

    Gross..

TBAR where do you get these dang articles...

  10. I never click on links that are preceeded with something like "Check out this cool site. It's so awesome!"

When I post a link I make sure what shows on the post is the URL so folks can type it into their browser for themselves.

Not the way I currently understand the 'known' vulnerabilities that were involved.

(That were patched out long ago, if you keep up with your Windows updates)

The web page itself (pcom... not the hosting site) would have to be written in such a

way so as to take advantage of the exploit. It's not something that would happen

accidentally, "here", unless the people writing the base forum software suddenly go rogue :ninja:

I'd worry more about clicking on folks' links, if I was going to worry about something.

Someone can innocently post what they think is "a cool link" to a site that could

have malicious code running on it. If you have good antivirus/antispyware protection,

you're usually good to go... but lots of people don't.

  11. I did not think anyone would do it purposely, I just wondered if it might happen accidentally.

I've learned to never say never, in IT.

That's why good antivirus software is always important.

While I know there have been remote execution exploit possibilities with image files

in the past, I can't recall any virus actually making use of those Microsoft 'features'.

Besides, the exploit would've required more than simply loading up the pic, as I recall it.

It would have to be embedded in a webpage or other document specifically coded to take advantage.

I'd say the risk is very low, considering all the other 'easy pickings' out there in exploit land.

  12. I've been noticing all these animated avatars.

Could they contain a virus that would infect a PC? ( I think the answer is yes.)

Could viewing them on P.com infect my PC? (I don't know.)

Does anyone know one way or another?

  13. Me and Wiener Boy did 40K last summer (anyone want to buy an army?) and this summer we did DnD.

We're still doing the DnD. He's a halfling rogue and I'm a human ranger.

We play at B and R games in East Cobb.

    http://www.bnrgames.net/

Is anyone interested in playing out here in Paulding?

LOL!! There are *all* kinds of vendor tables!! :oIf you say so...we like gaming at DC!! We are still Nerds, Geeks and Dorks.... and have instilled those values in our teens (but they are in the closet!!)....
  14. Since you are not making candy (i.e. not cooking to hard crack stage) I think the weather won't be an issue.

If you were making candy I'd say wait until October.

OK- So my Daddy is here for a visit. He just had a birthday so I told him I would bake him a cake. I'm thinkin easy, breezy German Chocolate. But noooo he says- I want chocolate with Divinity Icing! I do love this stuff- but it is really hard to make. My Grandmother made the BEST in the world!!! I come from a long line of fabulous cooks. And I really don't mind trying this out for him. But I am skeered!!! I have not, however, tried this icing. I am skeered! The recipe I am using is this:

    1 c. sugar 3T water 1/4 t cream of tarter 1-1/2 t vanilla 1/2 c Kayro syrup 3 egg whites 1/4 t salt

In top of double boiler (which I have to make myself), combine all but the vanilla. Cook over rapidly boiling water, beating with mixer until mixture stands in peaks. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Continue beating until frosting holds deep swirls.

My memories of this icing is that it kinda hardens and , if made right, tastes like absolute heaven. Anybody ever made it and will it hold up in this rainy weather? HELP ME!!!

  15. We plan to go Sat morning. We might watch the parade and we might not.

Last year Weiner Boy (my son) liked the celebrities the best.

He was really impressed to meet the Mythbuster folks and the Red v. Blue guys.

Last year we walked up to this one table that seemed to have a lot of leather items. We stood there for a minute or two and then I started noticing the butt plugs, gags, etc...

We moved along to the next booth rather quickly...

  16. they are probly asking for a w98 setup disk (i.e. the cd) because the install wants to load additional w98 components. tell it ok and then it should give you a chance to say where to look for the disk. tell it c:\i386. if that does not work search the c: drive for any folder named i386 and tell i that path or borrow a w98 cd from whwoever said they kept everything.
