  1. Could that disappear on its own/be stopped by some software on the website/ or have to be manually deleted by POPO?
Currently the Moderators (POPO) have to manually delete unwanted spams. It is possible to stop/slow down bots/spammers if Pubby get the security code turned on for existing members or just the new members to type before logging in.

  2. I mailed out Christmas cards recently from my hotel room in Toronto.

I think I have few more to send sometime this week. I had better get at that soon before my favourite cousin arrive Atlanta from London on the 15th.

  3. Buttermilk pie? they are OK, but too rich in flavours for me! My late great-aunt Pearl used to make buttermilk pie everytime there is a death in the family or community. My family called it 'dead man's pie'. My cousin, Rebecca (Pearl's granddaughter) has taken over her buttermilk pie recipe.

  4. Okay, I really hate to copy and paste articles but I will go ahead and do this time...

    Mother seeks answers for rape

The mother of Gary D. Helms Jr., who acknowledges she was raped by her son following an alleged altercation with his brother over a girlfriend, attempted, during an interview Friday morning, to clarify and make some sense of the tragic situation.

The reason for doing this, the mother said, “is I want the public to know that my son was on drugs when this happened, and for people to know what drugs can cause someone to do.”

The situation, and what triggered the eventual assault, began at his work place three days earlier, his mother said.

It began, she said, after a verbal altercation with his boss over a pay dispute.

This led her son, whom she said has been medically diagnosed as bipolar with attention-deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, and as dyslexic, to begin a binge of drug and alcohol use for the next three days that included, crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy and Club 400 whiskey.

She said her brother-in-law told her later that her son, whom she has not been able to see since the event, did not remember anything that happened.

“He doesn’t remember making it back to his father’s house,” she said. “He barely remembers a little bit of the police arresting him.”

The woman denied there had been a physical or verbal altercation between him and his brother over a girlfriend, as has been reported. She said, “That was not true. They were all friends.

“My brother-in-law told the police that, but it never happened. Gary’s brother told me, ‘Momma, they said we were fighting over [name withheld] but we’re not.’

“I cannot sit here and swear to it, but if I had been Gary, I probably would have been upset too if my brother was dating my ex-girlfriend, but I believe it was the influence of the drugs and his being upset over what happened at work.”

Regarding the alleged rape of a 16-year old girl in Florence, she said, “It was not true.”

Lauderdale County officials said this week they are looking at Helms in connection with a rape at Oktoberfest in Florence.

Helms’ mother said he was living with the girl and her parents in LaBelle, Fla.

She said her son had a relationship with the young girl from February until October of this year when, according to Gary’s mother, he broke off the relationship and moved in with his father.

From that time, she added, the girl had made repeated attempts to contact Gary.

“She called everybody she could think of — my nephews, nieces, my mother-in-law — anybody she could get a hold of to get Gary to come back up there [to Florence]. But he didn’t want nothing else to do with her because they had been fighting or something.”

When her efforts failed, and apparently believing Gary had gone back to another ex-girlfriend, the mother said the girl called her about three weeks ago and said, “If he didn’t get back up where she was at in Florence, she was going to call the law and let them know that he raped her.”

Helms is currently being investigated regarding that incident.

The incident involving the alleged sexual abuse of a 3-year old female, according to the mother, was the result of jealousy on the part of a friend of the child’s mother.

[The child’s mother is also the girlfriend over which Gary and his brother are alleged to have had the dispute.]

The mother said her son and the child’s mother had had a relationship at one time during which her son treated the child “as his own” but it now is an on-again, off-again relationship.

According to the mother, the charge of abuse involving the child was the result of the mother’s friend wanting custody of the child.

In an apparent attempt to create an incident, the friend, in December 2005, according to the mother, told the child, “If you want to come live with me, you go tell them he done that.”

The mother said it was her understanding that she went to another of the mother’s female friends and, falsely, said Helms had abused her.

That friend allegedly called the Marshall County Department of Human Resources and reported the alleged abuse, and when they asked the child who did it, she identified Helms.

The mother said she had been told her son had been given a lie-detector test and had passed it and that the case was dropped as unfounded.

“It is my understanding that there is no investigation going on on the [child],” she said.

The confusion at this point is probably due to the fact her statement is based on what an Albertville police detective — not the Marshall County sheriff’s detective investigating the case — told her.

Paul Evans, chief of detectives for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, said Friday the investigation remains ongoing.

Evans said Helms told him he never took a lie-detector test and that his brother said the case was dropped.

The mother described her son as “working every day,” and “not a bad kid.”

“He’s knocked down some mailboxes when he was a kid, but he’s never been arrested except for a couple of traffic tickets. He’s done drugs, but who they need to go after is the drug people.”

Indeed, records in the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Albertville and Boaz police departments show no previous arrests for Helms.

Why he did what he allegedly did still perplexes the mother.

“What gets me is I can’t talk to him to find out. They won’t let me see him — even through glass.”

The mother, who is undergoing counseling in an effort to understand, said, “I want to go in and ask him, ‘Gary, what did I do to cause this? Or what happened for you to do this? But from what I understand, he don’t remember. He doesn’t remember nothing.”

Asked how the assault by her son has affected her, she said, “At the time, I couldn’t think of nothing, but now as I think about it — I’d like to know why.

“Honestly, I understand that he was on drugs, and I understand he don’t remember, what he done — or he says he don’t. But until I can talk to Gary, and look him in the eyes — and I’ll know if he’s lying, cause a mother just knows — I really can’t answer it.

“Never in my life would I have dreamed he would have done this. He has took up for me too much. So, I know he had to be messed up on something.”

The mother, seeking answers to a nightmare, said a counselor’s comment, “With the amount of drugs he had in his system at the time, ‘There’s no wonder he can’t remember’ has helped me a little bit, because at the time I had thought I had done something wrong.

“I reckon all mothers would go back to thinking, well, what did I do wrong? And I did — What did I do wrong? Did I raise him not right? Maybe I shouldn’t have left his dad.

“You know different things go through your mind at that time, because you don’t know. And like I said — until I can really see Gary and talk to Gary — I got to have closure too.”

She also expressed disillusionment with the fact people ask, “How can a mother forgive a child for this?”

Candidly, she said, “I haven’t said I completely forgive him. But I’ll deal with my child in my own way.”

  5. Have fun. :)

I don't know what I'm going to do this week-end. Probably do some shopping in Acworth and Marietta tomorrow. Then on Sunday, rest up and get up at 3A on Monday to catch my flight to Baltimore after 6A. Will be back on the next day or Wednesday.

  6. on Friday in Alpharetta (North Fulton County). The store is located, I believe at Webb Bridge Road. They had it announced in the yesterday's AJC paper. So, be sure to check Thursday's or Friday's papers for further information. The grand-opening includes a chance to win a Ford F-Serie (probably F30?) truck.

For more info on Fry's Electronics Inc.. Currently the closest location is in Duluth (Gwinnett County).

They probably are still going to open one in Cobb County in the near future.
