Funeral Director Posted January 7, 2013 Report Share Posted January 7, 2013 Mr. Marvin Charles Thurmond, age 80 of Dallas passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. Mr. Thurmond was born on October 22, 1932 in Dallas, GA, the son of the late Marvin Franklin Thurmond and Agnes Hill Thurmond. Mr. Thurmond was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from the United States Post Service with twenty-five years of service. Mr. Thurmond was the owner of Thurmond's Grocery store and was a member of the Westside Christian Church, the local VFW and Bartlett Lodge #139 F & AM. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of many years, Jackie Cole Thurmond in 2003; two brothers and five sisters. Mr. Thurmond is survived by his wife, Jeanette Thurmond;daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and David Bean of Dallas; three step-children, Rev. Eugene and Melissa McBrayer of Dallas, Diane and Ralph Roberts of Rockmart, and Paul and Kathy Kiker of Buchanan; twenty grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Thurmond will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Music and Rev. Eugene McBrayer officiating. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Meadows Memorial Cemetery. David Bean, Terry Mayfield, Ralph Roberts, Sammy Mayfield, Larry Austin and Larry Austin, Jr. have been asked to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 3:00 until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 9:00 am until the funeral hour.
