surepip
OK, weather permitting, I am finally getting my first Bat Houses completed. Had to wait almost a week to be able to get the various parts painted. These are 30" tall, 18" wide, and 5-1/2" deep. Painted exterior plywood and 1x6 construction for the box itself. Inside there are 3 cedar baffles 1/4" thick with grooves cut horizontallly every 1/2" for the bats to climb up/down on. There are 3 baffles providing 4 separate chambers. Front air vent and 2 side air vents. Extended ears on each side of the top back for mounting to a building. Alternate mounting options for attaching to a pole. These will hold a colony of bats from 250 to 400 animals. Cedar Shakes on both sides, roof, and front, with 45 degree drip edges below the front vent and below the landing area. These are a lot of work, to say the least. And proper location is critical to attracting a colony of bats to move in. No street lights or near a roadway. Water within 1/4 mile. 7-8 hours of morning to mid-day sun. 15-20 feet up. Under an eastern 2nd story gable is perfect. Cost ? Decorated with the cedar shakes, $250.00 1 week delivery.
