Mr. John H. Steele, affectionately known as Jack; age 63, of Dallas Georgia, formerly of Mt. Zion Illinois, passed away on November 5, 2010 at the golf course doing what he loved.

 

 

Mr. Steele was born on June, 27, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Steele and Ethel Mae “Judy” Whitacre Steele. Mr. John H. “Jack” Steele served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Later, he was employed as a clerk of 58 years for the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Decatur, Illinois and Atlanta, Georgia. He also served as TCU local chairman from 1983 until his retirement. Jack loved playing golf and his main passion was his family. On July 1, 2009 he welcomed the light of his life, his granddaughter McKenna Breeann Hamrick.

 

 

 

Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his parents John Robert Steele and Ethel Mae “Judy” Whitacre Steele and one brother Donald Steele who passed away January 2004.

 

 

 

Mr. John H. “Jack” Steele is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Janet K. Layton Steele of Dallas, Georgia, and 1 daughter Ms. Krista Steele as well as her boyfriend Doug of Mt. Zion, Illinois, 1 son Mr. Jason Steele and his girlfriend Tracy, of Mt. Zion, Illinois; 1 granddaughter Miss McKenna Breeann Hamrick of Mt. Zion, Illinois; 1 brother, James Steele of Tampa, Florida, 2 sister in laws Linda (Bob) Hagan and Kathy (Mike) Barnes all of Raymore, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. John H. “Jack” Steele also leaves behind his golfing buddies and many close friends, all of which he considered family.

 

 

 

A gathering in celebration of Mr. John H. “Jack” Steele’s life will be held Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home in Dallas, Georgia where the family will be receiving friends from 5 PM to 9 PM. Memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the American Legion Hall, Decatur, Illinois from 2 PM to 4 PM.
