+subby1
I have had a couple of BRAND NEW mowers come into the shop over the past 2 weeks that wouldn't crank because the gasoline in their gas cans was too old and highly contaminated. Most stores will NOT cover this either. When in doubt, toss it out. Bad gas in a mower can cause a lot of problems for the owner, especially in the wallet. In both cases, the tanks had to be removed, flushed clean, and the carburetors also had to be disassembled and cleaned, as well as the fuel line replaced. Today's gasoline contains 10% (or more) Ethanol (alcohol). As hard as it is to believe, alcohol DOES retain moisture, and it only takes 1.0% to spoil the gas. It is recommended that gas for small engines sit in a container no longer than a period of 60 days, which comes and goes faster than you might think. Also, make sure your container is completely EMPTY before going to the station and refilling it. That little bit left in the container is enough to continue the problem and contaminate the new gas you just put in. Fuel stabilizers are a good thing to use to lengthen the life of gas, but nothing else works better than just using fresh gas all the time. Poor gasoline not only can mess up the fuel system, but can also cause premature fouling of spark plugs and increase carbon deposits on the valves and piston head and the cylinder head. Just another word of caution from your local mower-man, to help you avoid somewhat costly repairs, and even worse, voiding the warranty on your new mower. Happy Mowing!!!
