afriendlygeek
Debbie was a High School classmate (McEachern 1984) of mine. I thought maybe some of you knew her as well. Debra Dru Mitchell Heaton, age 42, of Dahlonega joined her heavenly family on Oct. 9, 2009. Debbie was born Oct. 29, 1966, in Warner Robins. She graduated from McEachern High School and Kennesaw State University. She lived in Powder Springs before making Dahlonega her home in 1997. Debbie was a French and Spanish teacher at Lumpkin County High School for the past 13 years. Prior to that, she taught at Lockhart Academy in Kennesaw for several years. Some of her favorite memories were of the many trips she took with her students to various countries in Europe. She instilled a love of the French culture not only in her students, but her colleagues as well. Debbie will be most remembered for her exuberant personality and beautiful smile, her sense of style and fashion, her love of animals, and her amazing generosity. She is survived by her parents, James (Mitch) and Jonell Mitchell of Powder Springs; her brother, Harold Mitchell of Panama City, Fla.; and many other close friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Dahlonega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the Dahlonega Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Debbie Heaton Memorial Fund at Lumpkin County High School or to the ARDS (Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome) Foundation, 3100 Dundee Road, Suite 402, Northbrook, IL 60062. Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
