Grovie Towery Owenby, age 81, of Dallas, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008. She was born in Blairsville, GA, on April 5, 1927, and was preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Owenby; parents, Alfred & Jessie Nation Towery; daughter, Emma Jean Roper; brothers, Monroe Towery, Hubert Towery and Steve Towery; and sister, Shirlene Lowe. Mrs. Owenby was the owner and operator of Milford Service Station in Marietta for over 35 years. She loved gardening and her animals and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Survived by her sons & daughter-in-law, James Owenby & wife, Nancy of Dallas, and Tommy Owenby of Canton; daughter & son-in-law, Shirley Maple & husband, Dewey of Woodstock; sisters & brother-in-law, Frances Jones of Michigan and Jimmie Sue Mongold & husband, Carl of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Perry Maple, Gary Maple, Darrell Owenby, Wendy Owenby Arnold, Jennifer Owenby Orr, Shannon Owenby, and Jessica Owenby Barron; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 3:00pm, from Clark Funeral Home, with Reverend Larry Parish and Reverend Vermon Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Perry Maple, Gary Maple, Darrell Owenby, Bo Arnold, Ronnie Orr, and James Barron will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 3:00pm until 8:00pm.
