  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Dick Trickle at Daytona International Speedway in 2004 when he was a test driver for IROC (International Race of Champions). He was very nice and posed for the pic I've attached. He is the oldest driver in NASCAR's Cup series to win rookie of the year, he was 48 years old. He is/was one of the most respected drivers in racing. I have heard several interviews of his and he had no problem with his name. Actually, he thought of it as an asset. Back in the 90s ESPN's Sportscenter would always tell where he finished. They would name the top 5 or so drivers, then say wh
  2. I'm against the store being built. Who wouldn't be if they lived where I do? Everyone from the owner of the lot to the county commissioners, if they read their emails, know I don't want this store here. But, I'm in no position to have them pi**ed at me. I'd sign a petition, though it would probably be in vain. I would even go to a commissioners' meeting and voice my opinion. But, what good would that do? It's obvious I'm not going to be trilled about the new store. It's right next to my house.
  3. I really don't know yet. The owner was very nice and seemed sincere when he said he understood why I'm not happy. The plan is to wait until the retaining wall is built and they finish grading around it, then he, I, Chris Robinson from planning/zoning, and Terry from permits will get together and discuss what would work best. It's hard to tell the way it is now what solution will work for me and be economical for him. Also, some of the ideas we talked about will need to be approved by the county. I feel cautiously optimistic. Honestly, I like the guy. He gave me forty minutes of his time. He di
  4. I had a meeting with the owner of the lot Wednesday. He told me they would be out here early one day to pour the slab, obviously that was today. Our meeting was mostly about what was going to be done on the buffer between my house and the store. A fire truck was out here washing mud off the road an hour or so ago. One of the firemen said the builder would be billed for that and a report would be sent to other county departments Monday. Our county is taking a furlough day today so no one has been in their offices.
  5. This is very true. I noticed the bright lights shining through my kitchen window at 4:20 this morning. Shortly after there was a concrete pumping truck out here, then some other piece of equipment, then the cement trucks. Now there is mud tracked out on the road. I was warned Wednesday there would be one day they would be out here at 5:00.
  6. I don't like what I pay for Dish but it's not any more a month than the price of a concert or Falcons' ticket, plus you don't have to pay for parking, gas, or $8 beers. I don't feel it's a bad entertainment value. My bill is $88 a month for four TVs, three of them are HD. I utilize my DVR so I can skip commercials and I don't have to worry about being home when my shows are on. The only shows I watch when they broadcast are sporting events. The DVR is what makes it a fair value to me. I have my favorite 30-35 shows set to record automatically and almost always have shows I want to watch ready
  7. A little update. The developer of the store is in the middle of a two week vacation. This may have something to do with the reduced activity out here. I received an email from him Thursday in response to an email I sent Dollar General. He tried calling me Thursday, as well, but I missed his call. I was at school and had my cell on silent. I have his number and he said I could call but I let him know through email that I did not want to disturb him while he was on vacation with his family. Regarding Tahoe saying our neighborhood is beginning to look like the projects. Overall I don't feel
  8. As I have said before, I bought my house in 1998 and knew the lot was zoned commercial. I just never imagined anything so big being built here right at the front of our subdivision. Yes, I'm upset about losing the view out my kitchen and off my deck, but I'll plant some stuff out here that will block out the store in several years. Long term I'm more concerned with the traffic out here, and property values for all of us in the neighborhood. We'll forever be known as the Dollar General subdivision. We might as well start putting trailers in here. As far as junk cars on the lot, I can't remember
  9. I have a petition printed but I haven't tried to get anyone to sign it. I also have flyers printed and had planned on going through the neighborhood door to door to find out what people think. More than anything I would like to know how our neighbors feel. My view being gone is only one of my concerns. The traffic, both foot and auto, and the added congestion should be a concern for everyone in the neighborhood. I also feel the store will decrease everyone's home values, not just mine. I understand how convenient the store will be but I have done just fine without it. I pass by Wal-Mart, Publi
  10. I've only talked to one person other than the surveyor and grader, he's with the permit department. I tried calling Chris Robinson with planning/zoning today, he hasn't returned my call. I'm not going to get nasty or yell and scream with anyone. The guy from permits called me this afternoon and said there will be two fences, one at the bottom of the retaining wall and another across the top. There still hasn't been anyone out here over the project for me to talk to. I'm considering letting the bank take the house. I may be better off. Between a 7% upside down mortgage, an even lower property v
  11. The property line is 25 ft from my house, the silt fence is about 25 feet from the property line. The back of the building is supposed to sit about 25-30 feet from the silt fence.
  12. Here are a couple pics. One from my deck and the other out my kitchen window.
  13. Come look off my deck and tell me most of the trees weren't cleared. your more than welcome to check out my new view. I have seen the plans. I called the county last Monday, a rep from the permit office brought them out here for me to see last Wednesday. I am getting conflicting answers on whether or not the fence will be below or above the retaining wall. I was also told they will be bringing in dirt and back filling towards my house, but the permit guy told me they don't have a permit to do that. He was supposed to be out here yesterday at 3:00, he never showed up or called me back. T
  14. I live in the house directly behind where the store will be. I first heard rumor or a Dollar General about five weeks ago. I didn't think much of it at the time, I was thinking a little store that would be convenient. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't happy about it, but I never expected it to be the size it is going to be, 9100 sq ft, and that they would back it up on the lot as close to my house as possible. The back of this building is going to be the only thing I see out my kitchen window and off my deck. It will be about 75 feet from the side of my house. They have cleared out most of the tree
  15. I am totally opposed to a Dollar General at the entrance to our subdivision, but my opinion is biased. I live in the house right behind where the store is going. That is my black HHR that sits next to the rock in my front yard. The back of the store will be about 75 feet from my deck. The trees off my deck and out my kitchen window aren't there anymore. The sun comes in my kitchen window like a laser beam now. I feel they could have given me a little consideration. The land was zoned commercial in 1991. I knew it was zoned commercial when I bought my house in 1998, but I never thought they wou
