  1. I am a week or too late. Id did manage one nice Bass today. They have gone on bed and wont hit anything. Saw them lined up along the bank but could not get them to hit anything. In a couple of weeks I will be back and hopefully they will be off bed and hungry. Water was still too cold for catfish to bite well.

  2. Nothing can be a suprise from this group of commissioners. I am sorry but they have not done anyone but themselves and the good ole boys any good during the past few years. It is an election year so lets just vote on name recognition, if you recognize it don't vote for it.

Why do we allow donations from people that don't live in the county? That should be looked into and make a change banning the acceptance of funds from people that are not in the district you are running in.

  3. GB's must have been reopened as it was closed the last time I went by a few years ago. But at $7 a head with gas at $3.25 it would depend on where you live. I would burn 3 times the difference in gas.

As far as the other two lakes, $5 plus $1.50 per pound, I bet it wouldn't take anytime to run up a bill, if I remember correctly you have to keep the fish you catch. The last time I visited a lake like that the fish would bite a bare hook. I like to catch fish but I also like a challenge and the oportunity to catch and release. If you cant take $10 to fish then you cant go to a movie, six flags, zoo, ballgames, or even out for dinner. Think of it not as $10 to fish but money spent to get time with your kids, quiet time you can use to actually talk with them. You will not have to compete with the xbox, movie screen, or the telephone. The best fishing trip I ever had with my son we did catch a fish. I was so into our conversation with him, he was 7, I secretly quit baiting the hook so we would not get interupted.

  4. GB's Lake is no longer in business and has not been for years. It cost more than $10 to go to a 75 minute movie. there is a lake in dville that is $2 but you pay for everyfish you hook. Cost me $30 in 20 minutes. That is not fishing. I went sunday to Argo Lake and only caught one. but to me it was fishing. One man caught a good bass and put it back. I had to leave before I wanted but I will go back. If you take your kids fishing, teach them to fish not just catch, they should learn to look for structure, current and not just catch and reel cuz thats just not fishin.

  5. I flyer about this lake. It had a blog site listed I pulled this off the site.

    Admission Fees

We have heard some are concerned about the price of admission to Argo Lake. It all boils down what it cost us to operate. No one wants to go fishing and not catch fish, especially if you have to pay to fish. When we were deciding on how much to charge, we had three options:

    1. Flat fee - which would have to cover all cost associated with operating, Stocking cost, insurance, utilities. This would have to be set to cover those that tried to fill coolers with fish.

    2. small fee and charge by the pound - this would involve a fee of 1 to 2 dollars and charge enough per pound of fish to cover expenses: the going rate is $3 to $4 a pound, not to mention you cant through any fish back. I know there are fish in this lake that exceed 8lbs, I have caught and released them.

    3. Combination - we chose to charge a flat fee for a limit of 7 catfish per person. then $2.50 pound after that. That way you wont get a large fee for catching a couple of good size fish. Imagine a couple of 4 or 5 pounders at $3 per pound just one would be more than our admission price.

As our previous post says we stocked the lake with 2000 catfish, 3000 bream. I have seen several bass over 2 pounds this year already. Stocking the lake was not cheap and 2000 fish will not last long with heavy fishing. I cant guarantee you to catch fish, I have been fishing a few times since the stocking, on some days it was good and others it was slow. The bream and bass have no limit or extra charge. But due to the cost the Catfish had to be limited. Those that think our price is high, shop it around the entire South East and you will find we are right about where everyone else is.

I have spent the last few minutes trying to verify and I can't disprove what he is saying.

  6. I would like to add.

contact your county commissioners and urge them not to make any budget cuts for public safety. They are under staffed, under paid and still show up and do a job only a few can handle. Municipalities all over the country tend to take advantage of our Firefighters, Law Enforcement, and Medics and ask them to do more with less. These are all type A personalities that hate to fail so they do it, only to be asked the next year to do more with less. With the recent passage of the fire tax here in Paulding, it should be extra not instead of what the old budget gave them.

Must be getting old the soap box is harder to get off of.

  7. When properly installed Direct TV rarely goes out. You have to have a clear line of site though. They currently offer more HD programming than Comcast. I have comcast and my does occasionaly go out, when I had Direct it only went out during really bad T-Storms. I tried dish net it was horrible. If you want multiple tv's cable may be cheaper for now, but in Feb 2009 it will all be about the same.

If I could get an HD signal I would be with Direct TV, but I am treed out as they say. You really have to look at the whole package and what other services you want. Cable and Direct both only off 720p hd signal, Direct is soon to have (in the next 12 to 18 months) true 1080p signal or so I have been told. Not sure if or when Comcast is going to get full Hd broadcast capability. in the long run just for TV DTV is cheaper with the deals.

  8. Dont forget for every patient a Doctor sees, he/she has about 10 minutes of paper work to do. So you have your choice Wait to accomodate overbooking or higher prices for fewer patients and shorter wait times. Of course everyone wants it all.

Have you been to an ER lately?

  9. Building moretoriums are perfectly legal, as long as you can show that continued growth will cause difficulties in providing county services. i.e. water, fire, police, and oh yeah even schools. Now if a builder really wants to build he can come up with some incentives to fix problems his development will cause.

Why has the BOC not done this? They are getting rich or the few that aren't are too big of a coward to say something.

  10. Alot of the activity with the vollies died when, they were ignored by the officers. Why do you ignore a 20 year vet with atlanta when he says not to do something, just because he is acting as a volunteer for you. If I am riding seat at my fulltime and a rookie that has 15yrs at boston or jacksonville tells me not to vent a window I am going to think twice as to what the consequences might be. Point is, why not use the experience people are offering for free, it cant hurt.

would you use a world famous doctor if he gave free visits, or take a free service call on your AC unit? of course you would. So why turn down well qualified free help. It takes more than $10,000 to train a firefighter to npq2, counting equipment, books, training materials, and personnel to train and test him. If 30 people are offering their services that are trained at that level you save 300,000 dollars plus 30 to 40,000 a yr on salary and even more on benefits. But that would be common sense, so what was I thinking.

I would like to apologize for my spelling and grammar, I had a long night at work, work I was paid to do but would do for free here if things would change.

  11. Firedoc,

Roswell is unique and has done something that is cutting edge. They have part-time firefighters that work full time for other departments. They are paid about the same as full-timers at Roswell, but are not paid benefits, no retirement, and no vacation. That saves the city lots of money, not to mention they do not need to maintain training for these individuals. this subject was brought up on this page, and Mr. Griffith said it would not work. Why does it work in Roswell, they are busier? As far as limiting the volunteers, it makes no sense, lots of Dept's up north have fully staffed departments and 30 to 40 vollies per station. I would love for my department to have some volunteers show up, if for nothing else to help with the S&O. The problem is the lack of vision, leadership, and experience.

To all who read this, Please help our guys out at the station level. Call your commisioners and demand results. Dont settle for we are working on it, or we have competent people in the positions. Go to your local Firehouse and talk with the men and women who are at risk and find out what they need. It may take some proding, but they will eventual tell it to you straight. remember alot can be heard from what is not said if you ask the right questions.

  12. Beezer you said a mouthful about what is wrong with this chief. He continues to run the small rescue trucks. What a waste of man power, that still leaves you with only one man on an engine, and cost the county money for there upkeep and replacement. Yes, it cost more to run an engine, but that balances out when you get two people on a cardiac arrest, or catch a fire coming off a BS medic call.

Second, why do you limit the number of volunteers? I can personnally name 23 people that have asked to volunteer in the past 2 years and was told that there were no vacancies. These people work as paid firefighters in surronding areas like, cobb, atlanta, marietta, dekalb, and clayton counties. they include technical rescue specialist, hazmat technicians, officers with years of experience. Experience that knows better than put a master stream through the window of a church and push the fire onto people you have on the inside, and through the rest of the structure.

  13. This County needs a qualified chief. He was quoted in the Neighbor a few years ago saying you can effectively fight a house fire with 2 people. Lets be honest, NFPA guidelines state you must have 2 men outside if 2 go inside, you must work in teams of at least 2. It takes at least 10 men to fight a small house fire effectively and safely. Paulding is one of only two counties in metro atlanta that has a chief with no real tailboard experience(that is actually fighting fires), he was an inspector at dobbins AFB.

You must change from the top in order to make this department what it can and should be. For anyone that doubts what I say, take 10 minutes out of your day and speak with some of our bravest, remember that they are on duty so listen to how they say what they say. I have and it is amazing what they have told me, but I am a brother to them and they open up easier. Cookies and Cakes will really get them talking.

  14. 20 million gross, not much at all. What was thier outlay? What was the net? And McCollum has been around for longer than I have (35yrs). Thier big boom did not come until 75, 575, and Town Center. Before that they were alot like Cartersville. The big dollars for airports and the municipalities that run them are not in hanger leases, and ad taxes, but in landing and take off fees. Guess what, we the tax payers will be funding this thing for along time.

ONly 20million and they are overflowing in Kennesaw, what will only a few planes bring us 1million maybe, wont cover the cost.

  15. What, money being spent out of the general fund for the airport? Was told many times on this site that would not happen. Guess I was right after all, the taxpayers are going to foot the bill. At 190,000 grand a year the airport will be a million dollars in debt before it even opens. Go figure, it just goes to prove now there are two ways to tell if a politicians lying, either thier lips are moving or they are on a website pitching something. As far as being reimbursed, if the faa acts like most other federal agencies, no, they will not pay monies into a general fund. I cannot ever remember a grant being put into general funds. So, unless they have different rules than DOD, DHS, and DOE the county is out that money, of course our leadership already knew this.

review the different threads on this topic and I told everyone this would happen, TBAR and Surepip brow beat me for saying it. This is just the tip of the Iceberg, have you every known a gov't department not to run over budget. Watch i am predicting the 190,000 dollar budget will be closer to 300,000 next year.

I am one to say I told you so cause I did.

  16. I agree with you Eddie,

Unfortunately I would like to name a name and give examples of how this individual failed to do his job and cost a certain organization lots of money and heartache. But the publisher will not let me. It has been said that it is only my opinion, but I would use the same measure courts would use, it is called a professional standard. The Department heads should not be civil service protected, Due to the fact that one could be given the position by a good ole boy and make them nearly impossible to get rid of.

  17. Oh, how I miss the days of the Water Authority. Back then this stuff did not happen. What alot of folks don't realize is how the county brought the authority into being part of the county gov't in order to take the revenues. You see back in the late 80's the PCWA was making a profit and putting that money back into the system. They had spare parts and an expansion plan. Then the powers at be saw all that money and the rest is history.

  18. Settle Down AJ,

When presented with something that some people do not want to be true but are they will become very defensive. I believe, if I understand the way it was explained to me by an official at PDK, the overflight easements are required when a certain decibal level is met over that property. There are a few other needs for overflight easements but I am not as clear on those. Some easements can cost up to $10,000 a year but I cannot see them costing that here, until the jets come in. There is also a liability issue with damage due to vibration (breaking glass, dishs, and the like) in private homes that the airport is responsible for. I think that should be limited to existing homes only but I not sure if that is the law. As for the AV tax going to the general fund, that is a mistake until the airport can fully fund itself. It should go to the airport and the necessary Emergency equipment that will be needed to meet the needs of the airport. We all know how polititians love to spend that new found money, Not calling anyone out but they ALL do it, even my beloved Rep.
