  1. I live in Polk and I'm against the uniforms too. I went to a private school for a few years. The reason private school kids make better grades is because there's not as many children in the class and the teachers seem more willing to help a student that is haveing trouble. Not that most public school teachers don't help those children. The private school teachers can help during school hours easier. And, with the class sizes being smaller, it's easier to pin-point a student haveing problems and in what area(s).

  2. Thank you all for the responses.

For the person that said they are concerned with my son eating two cheese burgers and fries, no this is NOT the norm. This is actually a very rare thing we do. Like I said in an earlier post, I bake most of our meat. We do not eat hambergers and fires a lot. We very rarely eat outside our home.

I will talk to his teacher and get her side before I say anything. I know he's 12 and hears things in a different way than they are meant. I do stop and think,"If I were this teacher, how would I want the parent to approach me with this situation?" before I say anything. I know she means well, but the fact still remains, she has my son worried he is sick. He is very active and has a very healthy appitate. I told him, my brother was always the smallest in his class. He was the same size as my son now when he was 12. He is 26, 6'4" and still skin and bones. But, he is starting to put on some weight. He's right around 200 lbs. My husband was also very small as a child. He is 6' and a little over 200 lbs. now. (I don't know for sure, he won't tell me.......LOL)

  3. I never skipped a whole day of school, but I did skip class a few times. It was when they first started doing 30 minute lunches with 30 minutes of study hall. I had lunch first and when the bell would ring, I'd stay in the lunchroom. I had lunch 3rd. period, so sometimes I'd stay until 6th. period. I got caught. I told my mom, the schoolwas going to send home a discipline slip she had to sign, the slip would say I was skipping class, but they called being late to class skipping. She bought it........LOL I got two weeks in "The Rock."

  4. My youngest is 19 and around 6'1". He weighs no more than 150. Very tall, and very thin--just like me and the rest of our family.

I have worried recently about his weight, and told him that if he doesn't put on a few pounds, he and I were going to make a trip to the Dr.

That was over a week ago, and since then he's picked up eating and gained about 10 lbs. I am relieved.

Eating disorders can be caused by a distorted image of one's own body, and it can happen to thin people as well as it does to heavy people. The last thing a kid needs to hear is someone from outside the comfort of their own family criticizing their weight.

I know you feel the need to maintain some sort of balance in this situation, but even so, if it were my son, I would be a bit livid. She has NO PLACE saying such things to your young son. It oversteps her authority.

If your kid were so skinny that he was ill and couldn't function in the school environment, it would be neglegent of her NOT to be concerned. But if he is simply a small person from a family of small people and he is otherwise attentive and doing well, her comments are misplaced.

Nope, my son is very healthy. He makes A's and B's in school and is always reading. He loves school and would rather read than play. Her concerns are very misplaced.

  5. One more thing, I forgot- Good for you BlondeMom for cooking so well for your family and not trying to clog their arteries! Tell your son that I know many VERY strong men that are around six feet tall and only weigh 150-170 pounds. You don't have to way a lot to be HOT.

Thank you. My dad came down with high blood pressure when I was a young teen. I got used to eatting baked meat, so that's how I cook mine. I have to admit, on occation, I need me some fried chicken.....LOL

  6. Is she a cow? Maybe junk food is how she solves her problems. If she thinks junk food is a solution for anything, I would email her a link for healthy eating, exercise equipment stores, etc. In the email that you send, don't forget the attachment for a transcript of your Paulding.com post AND replies. :p

That's another thing I didn't understand. No, she is not big at all. I asked my son how old her son is. He said he's 5. So, I asked how big he is. My son said he is about the same size as my youngest. And if you want to talk about small, my youngest is very tiny. After I found this out, I really got po'd. Where does she get off saying my son is too small when her's apparently is too!

  7. As a mom of two children that are not small for their size, I would be pissed. Her words and actions are just as damaging as telling an overweight person/child that they need to eat less or loose weight. I would approach the teacher with an open mind, again as a parent and a sub teacher I know children dont always tell the entire story, going in accusing is going to destroy the relationship she has with your son and you dont want her to "take it out on him" the rest of the year. Unfortunantly, I think approaching the teacher will change her attitude towards him BUT as a parent you must protect. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

This is one thing I am worried about. She refers to my son as "Little Angel." Also, another concern I have is, I'm currently in school working towards my BS in Elementary Education. If I cause too much stir about anything, it can bite me later. I know I must protect my son, and I will protect him. I just want to do things the right way so I maybe won't jeopardize his school life and my own career.

  8. You asked, so I'll answer...

She is NOT a "great person" if she's said this to your son and made him question himself and his size!

If it were me? I would reassure my son that he's a good weight for his height, and that he might never be big by other's standards, but for his family, he's JUST RIGHT.

And I'd have a talk with this teacher. It would seem to me that she's inserting herself in some place where not only does she NOT belong, but where she's plainly WRONG and is doing more harm than good!

    But that's just me.

    GREAT ANSWER PUBBY!!!

Hubby wanted to know where she got her medical degree. We are both livid. I'll admit, he is the smallest in his class. I was always the smallest in my class too. I told him, my brother was real small and now he's over 6 foot tall, but still skin and bones.

  9. While my son was telling me all this, all I kept thinking was, they are telling us our kids are too "fat" and need to eat less junk. We have always limited our kids junk food intake. I rarely fry meat, I mostly make all the meat we eat. I even skin chicken. My boys go after healthy food before junk. Now their wanting to say my kid is too small and needs to eat more junk?

Oh, I forgot to add in the ot, she told him to tell his dad and me to buy more junk food for him to eat so he'll gain some weight and grow. BULL!!

  10. My oldest son is 12 years old. He is small for his age, not sure of his height, but he weights 63 lbs. I come from a long line of small people. I have always been small. Anyway, he comes home from school today looking like he is about to cry. I asked his what was wrong, and he said, his teacher told him he is too small and needs to eat more. He told her he ate two double cheese burgers and half of a large fry last night for dinner. She told him that wasn't enough, he needs to eat more. He also said, she buys him a second lunch and gives him little Debbie, candy, etc. to eat while he's at school. My son told her, she is making him eat too much and making him feel sick to his stomach. That's when she stopped feeding him. Now, don't get me wrong. My son has a great appetite and he eats very well. I have spoken with his doctor (just to be on the safe side) about his size. The doctor looked at me like I had two heads and said,"Have you even looked at yourself lately?"

This wouldn't be a big deal, but his teacher has him so upset and worried something is wrong with him. He was begging me to take him to the doctor and have test run because he "must be sick to be so small." How can I handle this without hurting his teachers feelings? I love his teacher. She is a great teacher and a great person. I was shocked to hear she had said all this to my son.

  11. We are still married out of love. We'll be married for 16 years in May and are more in love now than the day we got married. Our marriage is easy. We laugh and enjoy each other. Yeah, we have disagreements, but they usually end with one of us cracking up laughing at the other. Then the other starts laughing. I can count on one hand how many disagreements we've had that did not end this way. When we go somewhere and are around people that do not know us, they often ask how long we've been married. When we tell them 15 years, they are shocked. They always say, we act like we just got married a couple of months ago. We've had a 15 1/2 year honeymoon and love every minute of it!

He is a wonderful, loving, kind husband and father. We both have each other so spoiled rotten, nobody else would have either of us......LOL Heck, I still look forward to him coming home from work every day. I still get excited when I see him pull in the driveway. I still miss him during the day, and can't wait for the weekends when he's home.

  12. This is a group assignment and the entire group is stuck and can't figure this out. This is due by Saturday, but we'd like to turn it in early since it's the last assignment.

I have web searched and can't find anything to help.

A satellite has an elliptical orbit around the earth with one focus at the earths center,E. As indicated, the earth's radius is 4000 miles, the highest point that the satellite is from the surface of the earth is 800 miles and the lowest point is 200 miles. Find the eccentricity of the satellite's orbit.

We have to use Ellipse formula to work this problem. The book has the answer as 1/15, but we can't figure out how to get 1/15.

I promise this is the last question. The last day of class is this Saturday.

  13. I looked up inverse coeffienct of matrices - that made my brain hurt. I vaguely remember how to do it, but good luck. (I solved the two equations simuntaneously). If it helps, I think that x=-6 and y=3.

Nope - did something wrong - answers aren't right.

Redid it - I'm getting x=12 and y=6 and this time I checked my answers.

    :)!

    Good luck.

Yes, 12 and 6 are the correct answers, but how do I get there? LOL I have the answers in my book, but it doesn't show how to work the problem in a way I understand. I asked my professor, but her answer didn't really help at all.

backing out of here as fast as I can.... Accounting I can do but that makes my head hurtconfused-31.gif

Oh believe me, my head hurts too. I have two weeks of this mess left and ALL my math will be done for the rest of the four years I have left. I wanted math out of the way and over and done quickly.

  14. Don't care to. You just want an argument.

I posted my vent with the particular officer about a year and a half ago. After submitting letters to his Lt and the Sheriff, the problem was satisfactorily resolved.

If you think officers can do know wrong, you are sorely mistaken.

I couldn't agree more. A few months ago, my husband got pulled over for speeding. He was NOT speeding, he had just pulled onto the road as was going up hill. The officer was NOT in or NEAR his car at the time. My husband called and filed a complaint. The office my husband spoke with, looked at the video in the car and dropped my husbands ticket. The officer got suspended for a few weeks. On top of all that, about 2 weeks ago, this same officer called my husband at work and tried to talk my husband into stealing tires for his personal car! My husband refused and hung on on him. Talk about crooked!
