  1. I am trying to help a family member who is a single mom of two boys (12 & 2). She is desperately trying to get into some public housing or some type of section 8 but I understand that is hard to come by and most counties are not taking applications. She is low-income and needs housing ASAP as she needs to get her son back into school. She is living with a friend now but its VERY temporary and she needs something more permanent and long term. Do any of my fellow pcommers have any advice on what she can do? She also needs a day time job as she currently works nights but would like to work normal hours and be home in the evenings with the kids. Lucky for her, the friend is watching the children so she can work and bring in a little income. Again, any advice?

    Thanks! :)

  2. I just came through the Hiram Sudie and 61 area and the cops are still there. They have cop cars lined up all the way down Hiram Sudie right before you get to the 4-way stop. I would also love to know what I going on because I live in one of the neighborhoods in between the cop cars.

  3. Well all I can say is that traffic backed up fast. I left work a little late and thought traffic would have been a breeze. I got to Macland after Florence and it STOPPED. I turned around at a church and took Florence over to 278. I hate getting on 278 and avoid it at all costs. It was not too terribly bad. I hope that the wreck was minor and no one got hurt. Merry Christmas!!

  4. We are having a candlelight service on Christmas Eve at 6:30PM at our church - Heritage Baptist Church. We are located off Highway 92 right above East Paulding Drive. We are considered Cobb County but have a Dallas address. Take a look at our website for more information - www.hbcdallas.org. We look forward to having you. Merry Christmas!!

  5. A good friend of mine and her husband own their own HVAC business and you can call them and they do great work for reasonable prices. It is called Waits Heating & Air and they can be reached at 770-443-3239.

Good luck!! Its too cold out there to not have any heat!!!

  6. My aunt and uncle own their own windshield business. They can come to your work or to your home. You are more than welcome to call them and see if they will come out this far to take care of you. They are located on the other side of town. The name of their business is The Autoglass Man and their number is 770-466-2539. Tell them their niece, Heather, referred you to them. I hope it works out. They are a good Christian couple and they truly enjoy what they do and they do it right!!

  7. Thanks CE for taking the time in getting the information together regarding the neighborhood watch. I am excited about a sheriff coming out and talking with us about getting it set up. I appreicate all you did. I want the subdividision to get better so we all can use the pool and not worry about the hoodlems in our neighborhood tearing things up and abusing amenities.

    Take care!!

  8. Like Gammy said in a previous post, if there was more homeowner participation in the neighborhood, I think we would be able to get a lot more accomplished. When the same individuals are doing everything, it limits us as to what can be done. Is there any reason as to why homeowner's would not want to help better their neighborhood? I, like any other homeowner should, want my neighborhood to be a safe place for my children and a fun place to live in. I am tired of these hoodlums walking the streets late at night, vandalizing property (as I was one who got my car broken into), etc.... There is no reason why we can not get this under control. With more homeowners assisting, we could.

Reminder: Our next HOA meeting will be on September 3 at 7:30PM at the clubhouse. We changed the day due to the Labor Day holiday. I look forward to seeing some new faces at our next meeting.

    :D

  9. I drive to the 1640 Powers Ferry Road area and I live off of Hiram-Sudie Road. When school is out, I can make it there in like 35-40 minutes. When schol starts, it will take me more like 1 hour or a little more to get there due to heavier traffic. I go down Macland Road to Powder Springs Road and cut over by Jim R. Miller Park (Callaway Road) to Austell Road to South Cobb Drive which turns into Delk Road that runs into Powers Ferry Road. Did you get all that? LOL

Good luck finding someone to carpool with. My hours are 8:30-5:30 Monday through Friday.

  10. Allgood Elementary is a great school. The principal, Ms. Anderson, is wonderful. She is so nice and loves those kids. My kids will be going there too. My oldest one will be in the 2nd grade and I have a little one starting "big girl" school this year and will be in Kindergarten. She is so excited. I can not believe that my youngest baby will be in school this year....sniffle......sniffle. My oldest child had Ms. Humphreys and she was great.

SoloSoul - I know who you are as we live in the same neighborhood. You met me at the HOA meeting. Remember me? My kids will be riding the bus too. Will your granddaughter ride the bus from your house? If so, she can look for my kids.

    Take care everyone!!

  11. I can honestly say that the FPU class is absolutely wonderful and has taught me a lot. My husband and I cut up all of our credit cards and we have paid all of them off with the exception of two of them. It takes time and patience but I can say I will be ecstatic when I am debt free and can pay cash for whatever I want and give my children the vacation they want (Disney World). I know when we took the class it was a $99 investment. You get access to the FPU information online and you can attend any FPU when offered to make up a session you may have missed. I know that we did an awards celebration to those who completed the course. It makes for a great testimony. Good luck to those who are interested.

My church will be offering the FPU class, as well. I go to Heritage Baptist Church which is off of Highway 92 right above East Paulding Drive. We will begin our FPU classes after Labor Day when the kids start back to Awana. If you have children, I invite them to take part in our Awana program too. It is for grades K4-6 and we also have someone in the nursery for the younger children. If you would like more information regarding our church, please feel free to visit our website at www.hbcdallas.org. We would love to have you!!

One other thing I forgot to mention.....once you are debt free, Dave Ramsey allows you to call in on his radio show and announce to everyone that you are debt free. I hear people doing that when I listen to him and its awesome to know that people have managed to allow themselves to become debt free. He is on AM640 around 4PM in the afternoon, I think....sorry.

  12. My family enjoys going to PCB and we always go to Captain Anderson's. It is absolutely wonderful. Several other places that are good too are Pompanos, Margaritaville, Pineapple Willy's...to name a few. I just love the seafood down there. It is so fresh!!

Enjoy the rip to PCB and good luck in determining where you would like to eat!!

  13. I too live in Kingswood Club on King Arnold Drive and the back of my property is the Bleakley farm. We were lucky the firewall (dirt) stopped it 20 feet or so from my house. My neighbor's house was also lucky. It stopped right at the edge of their back porch. It was very scary. I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old and my heart sank when I found out about this (compliments to my neighbor, thank goodness). The cul-de-sac was evacuated. When I got there there were sherrifs, GSPs, rescue, ambulances, etc.. at every intersection. Once I got to my street I had to park at the top of the hill and wait it out. I know I woke up this morning and it was still smoldering and smoke was still in the air. Needless to say, I did not sleep well last night knowing there were still some small fires in my back yard that they were waiting to go out. The forest ranger was there this morning looking things over. I am happy that my house is okay as well as the others in the area of the fire. Thanks to all the men and women who were out there assisting. JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!!
