  1. Wow, as little as I am on PCOM I always seem to find the most colorful threads.

I have adopted two dogs from the shelter in the past few years. The second one was being held on an abuse charge. Yes she is a Pit Bull that was abused by a local man who had done unspeakable things to the dogs entrusted to his care. We saw her on a visit to the shelter and she picked us to be her family. We waited 5 months to get her. The courts had to release her for adoption as she sadly was "evidence".

We frequented the shelter looking for dogs to adopt (3 is now enough)and give a home to. I choose to go to the Paulding Shelter because of it's more humane practices. Cobb & Polk Counties will not adopt out Pit Bulls. If a rescue is not found they are eufanized.

I have not been to the shelter and reading this is the only info I have. I will become better informed from the source but it does sadden me that they closed the facility to fix the physical issues and from what I understand, very little preparation was made to partner with outside rescues to take the dogs/cats in the interim.

If you have not noticed IT IS AN ELECTION YEAR! As with any political game, all available pawns will be used to advance someones platform. I certainly hope this is not the case in Paulding but unfortunately it may be. How about ruffling some feathers by contacting those in office and those running for office to find out their stand on the shelter??? The only way to force change is by being an informed voter.

I am sure that animal shelter employees are not high paid nor is it a glamorous job so I am banking on the employees being there because they love the animals and have their best interest at heart.

    I wish I had a rescue.....one day my friends!

Do any of you know how bad the shelter manager had let the shelter get? I don't think so if you did you would know that the county is having to spend 50'000.00+.to fix the shelter the RAT problem had been there for over three years.Info was given to The head of Human Resources and the county Administratora long time ago!!! So if you think it is the marshals you are wrong. The two that dropped the ball were Brian Acker and Mike Jones!!!!

  3. Could you post a link as to what "code" you are refering to - just curious. Again, I have no issue with change but this seems like typical overeaction by the suits in charge. Are you actually suggesting the shelter was run by someone that was incompetent because they had rats where their is large quanity of pet food stored? Really?

I think a lot of people that are so grossed out or think this rat problem is so easy to solve have ZERO experience working an enviroment like a shelter or a farm...just a hunch.

Sounds like you know a lot about the shelter well I do to I know that the RAT problem has been at that shelter for over a year and a half and not one thing was done about it

just well there are RATS at the shelter so what.No one thought about the people that came in and out much less about the people that work there!!!

  4. Hello all.

I would like to take a moment to share with everyone what happens when you disagree with Paulding County.

I will do my best to keep the following as free of opinion as possible, only to include factual statements.

I have been a Paulding Humane & shelter volunteer since moving here in June 2004.

I became an employee in June 2008.

I adored my job. Loved it. Loved my fellow co-workers. Still continued to volunteer on off days, etc.

Approx 4 weeks ago, we were informed that animal control was going back under the umbrella of the Marshall's office.

    Our director was demoted.

We were told that no drastic changes would be made.

Within the first week, our office pets were removed. (we split them up & took them home)

Again, no drastic changes would be made.

The kennel staff & road officers were split into - answering not to each other, but only themselves, and their direct supervisor.

hmm.... no drastic changes are going to be made.

We are closing on May 28th for renovations. (May/June is the bulk of kitten/puppy season)

Residents of Paulding County cannot turn in strays after May 21st.

I turned in my letter of resignation.

Here is a copy of my letter:

    dated May 11,2010

    Dear ______,

I, _____, resign from Pualding County Animal Control as of May 11, 2010. I am more than willing to work through a two week period (to end on May 24,2010) to allow for scheduling in my absence.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge what a wonderful and educational experience it has been to work for you as my supervisor. You have always gone above and beyond what has been tasked to you within our county shelter.

Unfortunately, I am very concerned with the direction our county is heading with it's "reorganization" of Animal Control. I feel that from day one, our new "management" has swooped in, without concern for how or why we perform our jobs the way we do, and changed procedures without the knowledge or education to support these changes. I feel that this new "management" has created a division in staff, causing animosity and a polarizing effect, whereas previously, we all worked as a team. I see these unneccessary changes in management, as well as procedure, causing detriment to the homeless/lost pets of Paulding County. My purpose has always been, and will remain, to be a voice for those that have none, therefore, I can not in good conscience continue to work in an atmosphere that suffocates the very essence of what I believe in.

    Sincerely,

    _____

I just voluntarily worked the busiest weekend of my life! Never asking to be paid, never expecting anything in return because it was the most amazing experience.

Today, I am told that I am no longer needed to work out the remainder of my notice. I am no longer needed in any volunteer compasity.

    no

    drastic

    changes.

So you think you got one in the back well how does it fill you are very good at doing that to others!!!!
