  1. :good:

I hope she figures out how to attend the meetings... and is not perpetually late. The records of her school board years seem to indicate she is time challenged.

I also hope she learns to speak without saying "you know."

I, too, think she will just be an embarrassment to Paulding since she seems to have no real grasp of any of the issues. Luckily it is only a two year term.

Intellect is often a matter of opinion. Someone with a degree in archaeology like Will, does not rate higher on the food chain than one with a degree in communications like Paulette, to me. Nor does someone who has worked briefly for for a survey company or as a volunteer "historian", like Will, rank higher on the genius scale to me than an entreprenuer who has employed people, since she was 21, as Paulette has done. At least her education and experience is focused on the future and not on the past. As far as her grasp of the issues, you folks forget the 3 debates she engaged in previously, when Will and the other 2 also participated. They are posted online and as I recall, any clock cleaning done, was by her. Thankfully, she is also efficient with a mop to clean up any messes liberals leave behind on the House floor!

  2. Paulette only won because she is a Republican.

This is the year for Republicans.

I can only hope that when she does arrive at the Dome, it's on time and she stays and does her job.

Otherwise, she will be gone just like the rest of them.

And we'll see who's really pulling the strings.

Good for you for being above the fray. I'm not. I work too hard for this county and state and country to piss my money away while they all party like it's 1999.

    Welcome to 2010.

  3. Bit my tongue during this last campaign for House Dist. 19 and did not engage the partisan hucksters,to defend my friend, Rep.Elect,Paulette Rakestraw Braddock. Paulette along with her family, friends and supporters endured a barrage of negative, hateful and ridiculous attacks during this mean season of campaigning. Many of them were allowed to be posted without merit, right here on this cyber-rag excuse for media, Pubby calls paulding.com. However, to her credit, she encouraged us all not to get in the mud with the rest of you, and for her sake, we refrained from comment and defense. However, the election is over now and thankfully, common sense prevailed, and she is going to be not only an historical Rep. for Paulding, (as the first woman to hold this seat), but a true leader who will fight for her constituents and bring conservative ideals to the House. Those who know her persoanlly, know a bright, funny, engaging lady who while not perfect, is simply...nice! It has been said that "into each life, a little rain must fall" and Paulette like us all, has had her share. However, most of us have not had our darkest hours plastered all over two-bit media sources, for the community to manipulate with half truths and to apply tortured analysis to. Yes, there has been rain but with Paulette's election, the sun will shine once more for Paulding. Thank you to those who endured the long lines to vote for my friend and for your future. :yahoo:

  4. Look this guy is well spoken, educated and in touch with the people of his area. This is the time to vote for the best person for the job,put away who goes to what church and who knows who. Let's see who is the best I want to draw the line. Let's have a debate between the two canidates. Winner takes all make it public, and this will be the day of discovery.

    All in favor?drinks.gif

Is there some kind of no woman candidate rule or something in Paulding? If you vote as a conservative republican and one won, why *vote for a democrat? Didn't Obama try to play the role of the "moderate" democrat to get elected too? NO WAY in H*ll would I fall for that. Besides, it's time to let a woman in. This lady just beat out 2 men to get where she is, didn't she?

  5. People if you believe in right & wrong ask your friends, family & her staff to ask her to give up her run for Post 2 commissioner. For her sake and the sake of the republican party. Look deep inside her and ask her for the right thing step down. Winning at the cost of what will surface after the truth is know will bring shame.

Tell her it is the right thing to do,if it doesn't surface untill after the election would be wrong. Her reason for running was for the wrong reason, and now to continue would be wrong knowing what you know & your family knows.

People you have known the Animal for quite awhile & I am asking for your support, ask her what I am talking about. If you believe in right and wrong ask her to do the right thing.

    Have mercy on her soul

You do realize there are legal ramifications to this sort of garbage, right? If there is something and is does not directly bear on the candidate HERself, you should cease with the innuendo or lawyer up, dude! Your candidate must be trailing in the polls, huh? Beverly Cochran 's own character is not at question is it? .....I thought not rolleyes.gif

  6. I don't read voting mailers (I read voting records to make my decisions), but after I was just texted about this I fished it out of the trash and read it.

Let me just say that I actually LIKE negative campaign pieces if they are accurate and shed light on the very worst about a candidate. I prefer to decide on a candidate based on the full range of the good AND the bad (just as I always make a point to read the one-star reviews before purchasing a book).

Mr. Golden's piece, however, is a piece of garbage. It's sensationalistic to the point of being utterly ridiculous. What an embarrassment for the Steve Golden campaign. Of the four points it raised, only one was relevant, and Mr. Stout addressed that point in his post above.

I know Mr. Golden (he built our house), and he once looked my husband and me directly in the eye and lied. Even if he had all the "right" campaign talking points, I could never, EVER vote for someone who would deliberately tell a bald-faced lie. I appreciate Mr. Stout's willingness to cast an unpopular vote because it was that important to him to keep a promise. Those two instances speak worlds to the difference in these two men's character.

Julia: I know what you are talking about. I know 2 others who had "issues" of truthfulness with Mr. Golden. I wanted to like him but I can't disregard the things I know.

    this is an improvement. thx!

  8. YES, there are posts that involve allegations regarding the local builder, Steve Golden, who is running for a House Seat in District 19 and THEY ARE NOT TRUE!!!!!

Steve Golden has never filed bankruptcy, NOR has his company filed bankruptcy.

Almost everything that has been posted about Steve is FALSE. He is not a developer. The earnest money $8000 was non-refundable earnest money. He started a pre-sale in Chestnut Hills Subdivision and he remembers it very well. His real estate agent (who has been in business for many, many years and like Steve, is very well respected) remembers it very well also. The buyer kept on spending $$$ on EXTRAS as he built the home. He paid invoices with the $8000 for expenses incurred from the upgrades. They were never able to sell their current home, so they could not qualify for a loan. The lender tried and tried but could not get them qualified. This occured when the market began to crash. The original sales price per the contract was over $300,000. Twelve months later that home sold for approx $225,000 and Mr. Golden still has a copy of the original contract. The contract clearly stated the earnest money was NON-REFUNDABLE!!!

He did vote to raise the milleage rate when he was on the school board. It was always a unanimous vote! As Paulding County was at the time the 7th fastest growing county in the country and he felt like (after being supplied all the necessary information to make an informed decision), had no choice, but to vote to build new schools - the children had to be provided an education and he simply felt like he was fulfilling his obligations as a responsible school board member to ensure that ALL of our Paulding County students received the education they deserve. Regardless of what anyone thinks, it is not a simple task to make decisions that involve the 7th fastest growing county in the nation and to make sure our children are being taken care of.

You know what the sad thing of this entire issue is? All I had to do is to send Mr. Golden an email to get all my questions answered as would anyone here on paulding.com that chooses to do so. It is not complicated, it is actually quite simple and I truly am appalled that some here would just believe what they read on paulding.com without checking it out.

Come on people, call the guy - get the REAL FACTS, rather than what someone is posting here here while hiding behind anonymous screen names. I'm sure Mr. Golden will be glad to share the TRUE FACTS with you if you will simply PICK UP THE PHONE, CALL HIM OR SEND HIM AN EMAIL.

I am not by any stretch of the imagination blasting or attempting to insult any of the other candidates for this position. I sincerely admire anyone who runs for public office these days as you can all well see what happens on websites such as this when untruths are sometimes posted. And we wonder why we have a shortage of candidates............

The truth is that 1999-2006 is the time period when Paulding was the 7th fastest growing county, and also was the highest growth period for schools (can be documented on state website archives). As a matter of fact, during THIS period,25 new schools were built, which does not coincide with Golden's reason for tax increases, as his last year of 12, was in 2000,on BOE. Apparently, he has at least acknowledged voting for many tax increases and to “some” level of baggage regarding his building career. I think he would also agree that the over building of homes by him and other builders, is what has led in part,to the some of the problems that Paulding is now facing. I guess my thought is that we don’t need controversy and discontent! We need someone who doesn't NEED this job to affect the direction of his own industry’s special interests,(as I am beginning to fear he might), based on some of those who are supporting him and his relationship with the old Paulding commission folks. When he said on the video that he would back the commission when given a chance,it gave me great pause. We need someone who WANTS the job in order to be an effective voice for Paulding citizens. Right now, if the only mud you can sling at Braddock is that she voted once, for a tax increase that would have passed anyway, during the REAL time of most growth 2000-2008, then I'd say she's well ahead of the rest of this crew. Stout is a whole other story, (an not a very good one.)

  9. You implied in a post That Braddock only voted for one tax increase, Again I ask which one did she vote for?

The last time I did open records request at the BOE, They wanted to charge me Hundreds of dollars for the information>

Look, I find out what I need to know on my own through research and by personal interactions with candidates. If you want the truth and are not lazy, you can find it. I have no idea what you are talking about regarding being charged a fee for what is PUBLIC information.

  10. The Paulding BOE records are available online but only go back to 2004. This time period only covers 1/2 of Braddocks term and none of Golden's. You can see there, where Braddock voted against tax increases. Only those who were present or who recall, can attest to answer why Golden voted for the increases. Maybe he or someone in his campaign can clarify what they were for or what their purpose was.

You can file an open records request and find all the past votes for all former board memebers.

  11. What tax increase did Braddock vote for?

  12. Paulette struggled as a school board member. Why would anyone think she was capable of being a state representative?

As I recall, her only "struggle" was against all the other board members who were voting FOR tax increases, while she voted NO on tax ncreases 9 out of 10 times. Also, she was a great proponent of school vouchers, which others opposed, as well. That is what made her capable of standing up on the state level, in my humble opinion.

  13. I believe that the record will reflect that both Golden and Braddock were very liberal when it came to imposing tax increases while serving on the school board.

Can you point out some of the tax Increases that Braddock opposed?

Braddock was on the BOE for 8 years and opposed EVERY tax increase except for the very last one in term that ended in 2008. She has since expressed regret at the vote, as she thought it was going to serve a different purpose than it did. I have no idea if Steve Golden has been asked to address the many tax increases he voted for, or what they ultimately accomplished for the county.

  14. You are a fool.

Should people call YOU a fool for having your own opinion? Everyone can do their own research and determine which candidate has the best intent, prior voting record, character, leadership and business sense to represent Paulding. To assume they won't do this or haven't already, would be dare I say it,... "foolish".

  15. What year was that and where is your proof? I think if you are trying to measure baggage you better look at the baggage and history Daniel has before trying to trash Steve Golden. This election seems to be about how much mud can be slung. nea.gif Don't think you are helping Paulette with this post about her voting for tax increases.

I think Steve Golden's website said Board of Ed. for 12 years. Circa 1988 -2000. He DID vote for several tax increases while there, because I was in on many of the meetings back then. However, I do not recall what each one was for. Also, I looked up Daniel Stout's voting record and he missed over 40 votes from the day he took office on 3/4/10 to the last day of session on 4/29/10, Most are just listed a "not voting" rather than "excused". I found his voting record on the Ga legislative website, which is public record. Paulette actually was interviewed about her one tax increase vote and she expressed regret because she had never voted for any tax before or after that one. It would have passed without her vote , but I think she saw it as her only regrettable vote. If asked, I guess Steve might say the same about his various tax votes. No one is right all the time, I guess.

  16. I'm not taking sides in this but to set the issue straight, Daniel Stout has joined the ranks of the entrepreneur, having resigned from his bank job in Smyrna. He is now conducting a small business consultancy out of his home in Paulding. This is in the latest news program on PcomTV. I've included an embed of the program. You'll want to scroll toward the end of the show for the political segments.

Actually, if you move the player marker (bottom center of the player) to about 17:14 you'll be at the Daniel Stout piece. I may take a moment or two for the video to begin playing the news before you will see the time slider bar.

Thanks for posting this! Gives opportunity to see both Braddock & Stout answer some Q's.

  17. I have issues with were the money to run his campaign comes from because I would like to know that the people of Pauding are supporting this candidate. After all that is where the people he will be representing live, isn't it? I think he is a Banker and I did not know his office was at the Capital Building as stated by another poster. I want my Representative to have knowledge of more than one issue and to have his/her focus on more than one issue. We need Jobs and a better economy among other things in Paulding. How is he going to try and address those issues and others that impact us so much? Are his concerns and interests in Paulding County and with the residents in Paulding or is his community involvement and interests placed in Cobb and other Counties? Yes, I do think it is relevent to this election.rolleyes.gif

Best I can tell, Stout has one foot in and one foot out of Paulding and is sort of a one issue candidate. Seems focused mostly on the right to life issue. Also,is he still a banker? Heard he quit his job. What has Golden done for Paulding in the past? I know he is a developer and builder but does anyone know with PERSONAL knowledge,if he has been part of the "good ole boy network" that got us where we are here? I'm just curious. Also, Braddock owns a business? Is it related to building or banking? What is her business? Did she inherit it? We need someone who knows how to get jobs back here, who will not serve his or her own personal business interests. I'd like some answers from candidates on these questions.

  18. I went to Steve Golden's event last night was came away very impressed. The one thing that bothers me about Stout, besides the whole mother in law thing, is that he only lives in Paulding. Does not work or attend church services here. As far as I know, his child does not attend Paulding County schools. I don't like that at all. I hope to get to Paulette Braddock's event to meet her also.

I can now say that I have met in one capacity or the other, Golden, Stout and Braddock. Stout seemed naive and someone who was just trying to play at being a politician. Golden is a nice man but sort of seemed like more of the same or a continuation of part of the problems here, since he's a builder and buddies with all the old network folks. I got a lot of info and concrete ideas from Braddock for the county. She seems like she's really interested in helping the county and the people. I think she seemed more sincere, but I don't know yet. I think they all have public forums coming up. I will probably go again to see Golden and Braddock. I forgot when the next Golden event is but Braddock is holding a breakfast thing in Dallas on 6/12, I think. Does anyone know the campaign website for Braddock? Someone said she had a BBQ thing going too, but I don't know details.

  19. Hi Madea,

I'm not sure how many opportunities Daniel missed, but I know he definitely missed 1 day.

It was preapproved by the Speaker of the House. There was a necessity for his attending a session at the bank he works at due to the FDIC examination occuring that day.

I am not in Daniel's district, so this doesn't really benefit me to share. I just wanted to respond for you.

I know Daniel posted his phone number above, and he will be happy to talk to any citizens in the county to answer questions specifically. Feel free to call him if you'd like more information.

If you look it up,the Ga.state legislative website shows that Daniel Stout MISSED 45 votes from 3/6/10 -4/30/10. Not sure why, but only one was "excused". Your post made me curious. Thanks!

  20. She may have "qualified" to run for the seat, but I don't believe she is qualified for the seat. She won't be getting my vote...

I am struggling with how the others in the Paulding Dist.19 State House Race can be considered qualified? The young kid banker, in the seat now, seems green and out of his league, not to mention I heard he had some personal issues that came up after his election?? Then, I hear some builder has entered the race, and that seems like he might just be part of the old guard problems. As I understand it, the lady running, seems to be conservative and has a business that provides jobs here. Lord, knows we need jobs, not more banks or houses built.
