  1. Thank Ya'll for all the prayers and the prayer lists you have put my family on. Things are not set where I can say much yet, but please know we thank you you and your prayers will not fall on deaf ears nor will my sincere gratitude for each and every one of you.

This is somethingmy family and me have NEVER been through before. It has felt like being blindfolded, driven to a forest, in the middle of the night, then pushed out of the car without so much as the moonlight or anything else and told to find our way back.

We are putting one foot in front of another and holding hands and carrying those that just dont have the strength yet to do so. We are a strong, good family and we will not leave anyone behind.

    Again...Thank you

    ~QTee

Your family will be in my prayers, QTee. May the Lord strengthen your family.

  2. We started the debt snowball in April of last year and have paid off 41k in debt. The snowball really works, but the budgeting is where things really start. We will be debt free except for the house in another year (had almost 80k in student loans, auto loans and credit cards to start out). All cars are paid for, working on the student loans now and the credit cards are last. They are all fixed low interest type, so it wasn't so tempting to deviate from the snowball plan (paying off debt smallest balance to largest). Murphy has visited several times, but we always had cash to pay him off. Good thing, because I cut up all the credit cards! By the time we get to the house, we will be making the equivalent of 3 payments a month and it will be paid off within a year. In 2010 will be totally debt free and able to live (and give) like no one else!

Dave Ramsey is on WGST from 3-6 pm daily. Listen for folks calling in to scream at the top of thier lungs "I"M DEBT FREEEEEEEE" it's so thrilling and I am so looking forward to making that phone call myself.

We are changing our family tree!

Is that Jon-Benet's father? If so, ingenious plan. He still isn't in jail... :p

    No, wrong Ramsey.

  3. please tell me that a quick thinking referee threw a flag for unnecessary roughness.

yes, but when the coach got there, there were two referees who were just standing there watching the fight (probably shouting at them to stop) but not touching either player.

  4. Hmm, from what I understand (and what is on videotape?) there was no slamming down the student. Did he wrap him up, yes. Did he lay over him to get the child (who was NOT stopping no matter what) to stop going after the other student, yes.

Sounds to me like he did what he needed to do, are you telling me that the kid could not handle being wrapped up AFTER playing a tough football game???? Well then too bad, he should not have been fighting.

I have known Dorsey for many years and I can guarantee you that he would never hurt a kid...BUT if he needed to take one down to the ground to stop that student from hurting another one...then the problem with that is what???

Sorry, but I think this is a non-issue....Dorsey did what he needed to in order to stop the fight...no more, no less....maybe we should be looking at the kid who was so out of control he could not/would not stop trying to beat the crap out of someone else? Oh, that's right....student responsibility is not at the top of our concerns in this community any longer, right...just making sure that we keep our kids out of trouble????Not making them take responsibility for their actions....

Dorsey was doing what he had to in order to end the fight...period!

I was there and saw the whole thing. the coach ran in, pulled his player off of the other player and I thought was just going to take him quickly away from the scene of the fight when he picked him up and slammed him to the ground with the kid's feet flying in the air over the coaches head. Up to that point, I feel he was ok, but when he slammed the kid to the ground, he went over the line. He had already moved him away by over 10 yards and had him under control. The slamming to the ground was totally uncalled for. Everyone sitting around me (on the Hiram side) were all saying this was way over the line. There was at least one child who was ejected from the game. I am not sure which one. I am certain that anyone reviewing the video would agree this is an accurate, impartial, eye witness account.

  5. With 5 high schools in the county and four of them playing football this season, there is a game being played in our county every Friday night from now to November 9th.

EPHS Sep 14 Fri Douglas County (5B-AAAA) Home

PCHS Sep 14 Fri Northwest Whitfield (7-AAAA) Away

HHS Sep 14 Fri Dalton (7-AAAA) Away

SPHS Sep 14 Fri Gordon Lee (6-A) Home

I encourage everyone to get out on Friday nights and support these local football teams. Kick-off is at 7:30 PM and you can be home in time to watch the news.

  6. Despite giving up 429 total yards to McEachern, the Patriots put up a good fight against the heavily favored Indians in last night's game. In fact, they had several chances throughout the game to seize the momentum. However, it seemed that each time they got something going offensively, they would shoot themselves in the foot and then fail to capitalize on an opportunity.

After the Patriots' offense punted the ball away on their first possession, the Indians wasted little time displaying their quick strike capability. It took them only 2:42 to score the game's first TD on RB Trevor Tatum's eight yard run. The score was set up by a 31 yard pass from QB Matt Collins to WR Nico Delandy.

The big play was what ended up killing the Patriots in this game, as McEachern had eight plays that were over 15 yards, including a TD pass for 31 yards, and TD runs of 71 and 34 yards.

The Patriots would answer with a big play of their own on their next drive, as WB Hakim Lynch made a spectacular leaping catch good for a 37 yard completion from QB Zach Thomason. The Patriots drive stalled at the McEachern 25, and kicker Kevin Farnell booted a 42 yard field goal making the score 7-3 in favor of the Indians.

That drive consumed almost five minutes and seemed to give the Patriots some confidence that they could play with McEachern. The defense then tightened up and forced a bad pitch from Collins that was recovered by DT Chris Rowland at the 50 and the Patriots were in business.

Unfortunately the offense turned the ball over on downs at the McEachern 33 after dropping two passes that would have kept the drive alive. That seemed to take the wind out of the Patriots' sails and the defense allowed McEachern to score in just five plays, the last of which resulting in a 34 yard TD run by RB Quenten Martin. The Patriots had Martin in the backfield but shoddy tackling allowed him to break free for the score.

That is how it seemed to go throughout the rest of the second and third quarters for the Patriots. Their defense would come up with a big play, the offense would move the ball, and then something would happen to stall their drive. These are signs of an inexperienced team...one that hasn't learned to win yet. The positive thing is that they kept fighting and never gave up despite their seemingly constant gaffes.

After falling behind 28-3, the Patriots put together a 15 play scoring drive that lasted over six minutes. They got things rolling with their passing game as Thomason completed six of eight passes on the drive, the last one a 20 yard TD to WR Stephan Hyppolite who had a good night leading all receivers with 8 catches for 72 yards and a TD. On the night Thomason completed 14 of 25 passes for 134 yards with a TD and an INT.

On McEachern's next drive, they fumbled on the first play and DB Josh Geter picked up the loose ball and returned it 20 yards for the score, pulling the Patriots to within ten points at 28-18 with just six minutes to play.

That was the last hoorah for the Patriots though as yet another big play hurt them. This time it was a 66 yard pass that would have resulted in a score if not for DB Bob Jobe's refusal to quit. Jobe was beat on the play, but caught the receiver from behind for a tackle at the one yard line. The Indians scored two plays later, and then again with just 1:25 remaining to seal their victory by a final margin of 41-18. The all time series record now stands at 23-4 in favor of McEachern.

Despite losing their first two games, this team has shown improvement over last year's squad, and there have been some positive things that the Patriots can build on. There is no questioning their heart, so as long as they keep playing as hard as they have in their first two games good things will begin to happen for them.

The Patriots will travel to Tunnel Hill next Friday to take on the 2-0 Northwest Whitfield Bruins, and face yet another stiff challenge. The Bruins have outscored their opponents 61-13 and feature a very large and physical offensive line and an opportunistic defense that has forced several turnovers by their opponents. They love to pound opposing defenses with their running game, so the Patriots' defense will be tested once again.

  7. I didn't see any in-depth coverage of the game posted on P.com, so I am posting this very balanced story written by Ken Wilson on the PCFootball.org site. Ken has always called them as he sees them and since he does the stats for the coaching staff and the AJC, he has all the details that true fans will want to know.

    ===================

Last night’s “Battle of Dallas” lived up to its billing, but in the end the East Paulding Raiders earned a hard fought victory on a 26 yard field goal by Stephen Cummins with just 1:37 left in the game. The win marks the fourth consecutive victory by the Raiders, and brings the series record to 6-4 in favor of the Patriots.

The Patriots received the opening kick and put together a drive that consumed over six minutes, but they stalled at midfield and had to punt. The Raiders wasted little time opening up their attack as QB Cole Paris hit his favorite target of the night, TE Matt Benton, for a 20 yard strike on their second play.

Benton led all receivers with 5 receptions for 87 yards, and seemed to come up with big plays whenever the Raiders needed him. He was later awarded the Raider’s MVP trophy during the traditional closing ceremony at midfield after the game.

After another Raider first down, the Patriots defense came up with a tackle for loss by DT Chris Rowland and then DB Bob Jobe broke up a pass. The Raiders were in a 3rd and 11 situation, but some shoddy tackling allowed Raiders’ RB Harold Queen to break free for a 39 yard TD with 3:31 left in the first quarter. Queen, a speedy sophomore, burst onto the scene last night as he led all rushers with 22 carries for 116 yards and 2 TDs.

Each team recorded short series before trading punts, and then the Patriots went back to work on a 13 play drive that consumed almost five minutes. This time however, they struck pay-dirt on a 4 yard run by FB Chuckie Maulding with 6:51 left in the second quarter. The drive was kept alive by a 20 yard run by OL Justin Muńoz on a fake punt from the 50 yard line. It was a great call by the Patriots’ coaching staff and caught the Raiders by surprise.

On the Raiders next drive Queen lost the handle and linebacker Michael Smith recovered for the Patriots at the Raiders’ 21 yard line. The Patriots couldn’t advance the ball, but they managed to take the lead on a 31 yard field goal by place kicker Kevin Farnell with 5:00 left in the half.

The Raiders responded with a scoring drive highlighted by a 22 yard catch by Benton on a 3rd and 21 play. Queen took it in from the 4 yard line to give the Raiders the lead again with just 20 seconds left. The Raiders had the momentum as they entered the halftime intermission with a 14-10 lead….and then came the rain.

As the teams lined up for the second half kickoff, the rain began to increase in intensity. The Raiders fumbled the kick out of bounds at the 10 yard line, and on their first play from scrimmage Paris fumbled the snap and Smith recovered his second fumble of the night for the Patriots. Three plays later RB Josh Geter scored on a nice 11 yard run just over a minute into the half, giving the Patriots the lead at 16-14. East Paulding blocked the extra point, and that would later prove very costly for the Patriots.

Two minutes later the rain was coming down hard and the lightning moved in. The game was delayed at 8:13 in the third quarter, and both teams hit the locker rooms for safety. The delay lasted about 50 minutes and the field was soaked. After play resumed neither team was able to mount an effective drive, and it became a game of field position.

The Raiders got the ball at the Patriots’ 41 yard line, but the defense came up with a big fourth down play that stopped the Raiders at the 32. The Patriots offense went three and out and the Raiders had the ball again at their own 42 yard line.

On the Raiders’ first play, FB Jahron Brown burst free for a 53 yard romp down to the Patriots’ 5 yard line. The Patriots defense held again, forcing the Raiders to attempt the go ahead field goal with about nine minutes to go in the game. However the snap was low and Cummins slipped as he planted his foot, and the 24 yard kick fell well short.

The Patriots' offense went three and out again, and after a short punt the Raiders had the ball inside Patriots’ territory once again with just 6:09 left. Paris then led his team to an 8 play drive that resulted in the winning kick with only 1:37 to play. The Patriots' last gasps fell short and they had lost the game.

Despite the loss, the Patriots can build on some positives from this game. The defense played much better than last year, the offense showed some sparks in the running game, and there was no doubting the players’ effort as they played their hearts out last night. The passing game however was not very impressive, so there is much improvement needed in that department for the Patriots to compete.

Next up for the Patriots are the McEachern Indians for the early game of the “Cobb / Paulding Border Wars” next Saturday at Harrison High School. McEachern suffered a tough loss to the Parkview Panthers in the Corky Kell Classic played at the Georgia Dome today, so each team will be looking for their first victory of the 2007 season.

  8. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear ... for which defensive driving school does Mr. Storey teach?

I understand that Jim Storey has been certified to teach this course since 1992. He doesn't currently work for any school. I think it was the Department of Public Safety back then. He called them today and found that his certification to teach this type of course is still valid. The only kind of course he isn't able to teach would be the ones folks have to take when they have suspended licenses or DUI.

I will post more details on his certification after I talk to him tonight at church, but this is a defensive driving course aimed at families who wish to lower their insurance costs.

  9. Which school is sponsoring the class?

(And BTW, the Dept. of Public Safety no longer has anything to do with drivers licensing --- we're called the Dept of Driver Services. :) )

Your Friendly Neighborhood License Examiner B)

Our church, Cross Walk Chapel is the sponsor. Jim Storey is a certified instructor for the course.
