  1. I never said he was only vehicle on the road. And he did leave work earlier than normal. When he left work (his own company) at 4 ish, it wasn't as bad. In fact, my next door neighbor that came from the same place. She made it home just fine. When she got to the bridge and noticed it was slippery-SHE SLOWED DOWN. And didn't cause an accident. Not that she had a perfect ride home, but she was careful and drove slowly.

And you can rest assured he won't be on the road tomorrow until he knows it's safe. Me either.

And as for the advice my father would have given me-he probably would have been helping to move people with his own personal vehicle or even his hands. On ice, the car would probably slide - off the bridge to the grass before the bridge- pretty easily. In fact, I remember him doing that before.

And as for drinking and driving- nope. He had already turned the truck off. HA. And there was maybe 3 sips left in the flask.

I'm sorry for anyone that I have offended. No offense was intended. I have quite a few PCSO friends. I am sure that the lady whose daughter works as a 911 operator- I wasn't trying to bash them. Not one bit. And I would love to work there. But I already have a very busy life. No time for another job. Thanks anyways. Maybe my daughter would like to try for that. She'd love it.

And I don't mind posting under my business name. I have clients who will hear about this during the next couple of weeks. And they know me and understand me. What you see it what you get. And they love me and I them. But thanks for the advice anyway.

Sorry to stir the pot then log off. But I've got to get ready for bed since I'm not sure if my kiddos will be in school tomorrow or not.

    Night all.

  2. My word people, can someone tell me how to drive on ice? I want to know. Better yet, those complaining, get in your car and go help someone since you don't think it is a big deal.

I didn't say that this ice is no big deal.

Quite the opposite. But if our emergency services can't get out in this kind of emergency, what is this county to do if someone is in a serious life or death episode?

And BTW, the way to drive on ice- S.L.O.W.L.Y!!!

  3. I haven't read all replies, so I'm sorry if I am repeating someone but, priority first in these situations. If no one was seriously hurt, then honestly, they don't matter. I agree with the tactic since it may be me bleeding to death in a ditch one day. I don't wanna die because you can't be inconvenienced.

I agree, but no one was hurt (as far as we know). No ambulance ever came.

Again, since it wasn't life threatening, why couldn't they move the cars, let the police and fire truck move on to the next serious accident (wherever that might be)

  4. If you would take some of your precious time and listen to what they are dealing with on the scanner, you would might get a clue....

I understand but I didn't have a computer at the time to check the scanner. Luckliy he had his phone and could let me know he was running late. I do understand that their were multiple wrecks. But how hard is it to slide a few cars off the bridge with some of those cars that are sitting there?

Or at least give the people sitting there some info.

    That's really all I'm saying.

  5. I would be PO'd after two hours. Especially if I was low on gas or cold or hungry. Don't even talk to me if I am stuck in traffic and hungry.

They should notify people waiting if the road is shut down so people can take an alternate route. I don't think that's asking too much.

Thank you. That's really all I'm saying. And most people at that time of day are on their way home from work for dinner. So they were probably hungry.

But my hubby had leftover poptart from the morning, and a flask of scotch. So he wasn't terribly irate. Just mildly irritated.

  6. I get what the OP is saying. 2 hours of people sitting and waiting with no info is frustrating and so is not knowing about schools.

However, the OP may not realize there are a limited number of tow trucks in the county. I passed 6 wrecks on my way home from work and it was only a 20 mile stretch on the south side of the county. I can't even imagine (well, maybe I can based on the posts on here) what it was like on the overpopulated north side.

It's cold and dangerous out. I hope our emergency personelle stay warm and safe.

I do understand, but there were residents around there with their 4-wheelers. Why couldn't they have moved the cars off the bridge so that all the residents could get through - CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY. Many of those people lived with a couple miles of the bridge.

  7. In MOST (not all) instances I totally agree with you all. But tonight has shown exceptionally well how poorly our emergency system is. I can't believe that our 911 operators are telling people that our emergency vehicles can't drive in this.

I understand it's happening over all of North Georgia, but to tell a resident that they may not get help until tomorrow, really?

  8. I am not one to bash our emergency services. My father was a fireman, I totally appreciate their devotion.

But how can there be a 3 car accident on an icy bridge for 3 hours and not even a tow truck comes?

About 5:45 tonight my husband came up Dabbs Bridge Road from 41 towards 61. He got to the big red barn before the bridge over Pumpkinvine Creek. He was stopped. And thought it would clear eventually. He had already passed at least 2 wrecks on DB. About 8, I called 911 to make sure it had been reported. Because nothing was happening. I was told by the operator that they were aware of the accident and didn't know when they would get to it. Maybe tomorrow. Our emergency vehicles can't drive in this.

Are you kidding me? Why can't our emergency vehicles drive in an emergency? What if there had been some fatalities?

So finally, someone walked back from the bridge and said that the one police officer said that even if they moved the cars, they wouldn't be letting anyone cross the bridge until the salt truck came by.

So finally, my husband turned around and went around Cedarcrest to Harmony Grove to DB.

I don't know when/if the salt truck ever got there, but the whole ordeal was totally ridiculous.

There was probably a mile of back up. Couldn't the police officer went down the line and told everyone what was going on. Especially after 2 hours. Stupid.

Maybe our county services needs to have some tactical training in how to handle emergencies on ice.

And what about the BOE not letting people know if the schools are going to be closed? If our emergency personel can't drive on this, do they really think our busses can with our children on them? I THINK NOT!!!

Have a nice evening everyone. Stay safe, slow down, and be careful.

And thank you public service workers for all that you do for everything that you guys do to keep our county safe.

  9. OOOH. I want one, I want one. When can I come and pick out materials and find out how much it will cost. I love your work. I also need to get another shirt for Steve and maybe another hat.

He LOVES his shirts. One of his hats is so dirty, it's almost white. HA.

  10. Almost like Frosted Orange Icecream

    1 can Eagle Brand Milk

    1 12 oz cool whip

1 2 liter orange drink (sunkist or fanta)

    Milk

Pour eagle brand milk into medium sized bowl. Add cool whip and mix with a whisk. Pour 1/2 of orange drink in and mix with whisk. Pour into ice cream container. Add the rest of the orange drink. Add milk to fill line on metal container. Place metal container into plastic container and lock the motor onto top. Add ice around metal container (make sure you can turn the metal container). Add in layers of rock salt on ice. Plug in and let run until motor shuts off. You will continue adding ice and salt as the ice melts in the plastic container. (No more than 45 minutes to an hour).

This is just like frosted orange.

Variations you can use any flavor drink. Also you can use chocolate drink (tastes like a frosty).

Doodlebug = We love to make homemade icecream all summer!

I have heard that this is wonderful. never had a chance to try it yet though.

I found a recipe once that called for 1/2 pint of whipping cream and lots of other things. It was a very good recipe, but my husband has a hard time with milk products. He's not totally lactose intollerent just a little. So here is what I do.

I get a quart or however they come, non dairy creamer (not the powder), the kind that you use in your coffee. The flazored kind is very good, like hazelnut or french vanilla. Anyway, I use a quart of non dairy creamer, a cup or so of sugar ( I have also found that 1/2 cup of brown sugar gives the ice cream an interstingly good flavor), sometimes whipping cream. Then I fill to the line with milk. After I get it all mixed up, I taste it. You can add whatever you think it needs. Ice Cream is not an exact science like baking a cake. So just play with it until you find what your family likes. Good Luck and have fun. Homemade Ice cream is the BEST!!!!! My children love it when they see that I bought creamer because they know that we don't use it in coffee.

  11. I just thought pizza hut was the only delivery out here..

No, not just Pizza Hut. We can get Papa Johns from Cedarcrest, Sal's even delivers out here, and Dominoes from Euharlee Rd.

As for Chinese, I'd love to know of someone that delivers out here.

  12. Hey sis,

Please save me that photo screen and the other 2 items I claimed 4 months ago....Thanks!

    Love ya!

    Make that 3.... ;)

Try the Goodwill on 41 in Kennesaw. A friend of mine got a decent one for 12.97. Works just fine. Not the prettiest thing you ever did see, but it sucks. HAHA

  13. The City Cafe has closed, but I had a year long commerce membership. I guess I should change my screen name. These are for my husband. He got laid off the week after the cafe closed, so we were both out of jobs. He decided to open his own business, doing what he had been doing for his previous employer for the past 15 years. He repairs tools that you would use in a body shop, all air and electric tools. And he always wears a hat, so I asked Tona to do one. He told me a couple weeks ago he wanted another one, before he wore the first one out. And he needed another shirt. So I got him another of each of those, and I order a shirt for me as well. She didn't post a pic of that, but that's ok. I know it's beautiful.

Thanks again, Tona I really appreciate it.

  14. go for it - you only live once and they have a short time with you before they don't like you much

You must have teenager. That too will pass and they'll like you again.

Anyway, my neighbor took her only son and my daughter, who are about the same age. They went when they were about 3 or 4 and they LOVED it. Take some good pictures. We have one where my neighbors son had some charcoal smear on his face. Priceless pictures.

    Have a blast

  15. Scarlet, you are so right. Kate and the gang are so wonderful. My husband escapes there every chance he gets. I enjoy just sitting there and smelling the wonderful pipe/cigar smoke. Kate researched and found some really nice things for my husbands birthday last month. My daughter and I both got him stuff from there.

In fact, he spent a few hours there today.

    Love DD and Cigars

  16. Give Midway Presbyterian Church on Dallas Hwy.

I am a member there and the expense is a little less for members than non-members. I can't remember the actual price.

But I do remember the coordinator saying that thhe deposit was quite large, like $400 or something, but it was refunded after the ceremony. You may give them a call. The santuary is brand new and beautiful.

My daughter is getting married in June, she decided to get married on marietta square, but she also looked at First Methodist in downtown Marietta, and they were quite reasonable and she is not a member there.

    Good Luck with your search.

  17. You ever hear of "Smile and make them wonder what you're up to"

    Maaybe that's why it's there.

My high school son doesn't know why it's there either. And I too have been wondering when they could have done it and had the time for it to dry without anyone driving over it.

    Cute though

Good Luck. and I hope you feel better soon.

  19. I finally made it by there this past week also. She has the shop set up perfectly. And I had the most fun just sitting and chatting. I love my purses and when I get out of the shower in the morning, I feel like I've already had a blueberry muffin for breakfast (I am using the blueberry truffle soap - MMMM!!)

And I have a sick 7 year old, and tonight she was going to take a bath. And wanted something to make her feel better. So I pulled out my bag of bath bombs. She said - Oh this is going to be good. Scarlet has the best stuff. I put her in tub with a soothing vapor bath bomb, and she felt alot better before she went to bed.

Thanks for all the helpful information too.
