    Huh?!?!?

  2. I called a certain internet service provider due to problems. After spending 10 minutes walking through various voice prompts, I was informed that this company was experiencing an unusually high call volume and that my call would be taken as soon as possible. (I always seem to call when they are experiencing an unusually high call volume – I guess I'm just lucky). Eventually, I connected to a person that cannot claim English as their first, second, third or fourth language. After 5 minutes I explained to the person that the language barrier was just too great and that I would call back with the hope of reaching someone that spoke English. Obviously when I called back I spent another 10 minutes with the voice prompts and another 10 for the high call volume penalty. At last the phone begins to ring and I'm a little nervous about whether I have been chosen by the customer support gods to speak with someone that speaks my language. When the ringing stopped, I was greeted with a click and 30 seconds later with the message: "If you would like to make a call, please hang up and make your call again". Luckily the third time was a charm (except that I was on hold forever) and I was able to speak to someone that talked like me and my problem was resolved in 2 minutes. Something is seriously wrong with customer service procedures when it takes an hour to solve a 2 minute problem. End of vent.

    Just goes to show you that companies that outsource their customer no service to another country just don't care about you and I.;

  3. I'm thinking about purchasing a new TV. I'm wanting to get a 42" Plasma or LCD. Do any of you guys have suggestions such as; which one is better Plasma or LCD, brand name, most reasonable etc... Also if anybody knows where is the best place to buy one. Thanks!!

They are both great technologies caompared to the picture tube we grew up on.

The LCD makes more financial sense dur to less likely to fail needing repair and they use less energy. A comparable size plasma will cost a little less but over time that savings will won't be there.

Plasma is better in low or no light and a relatively narrow viewing angle. LCD is a better picture in rooms with lots of light and the picture does not fade away at wide viewing angles.

Bottom line is LCD is a better picture. If you watch ONLY television then 720p is OK. but to go against Clark Howard ....if you watch HD DVD or Blu Ray you will definitely want 1080p! You cannot beat the picture watching a Blu Ray movie on a Sony Bravia 1080p LCD TV!!!!

  4. As much as I love my explorer - it has an issue. Now, let me give you some parameters first.

    1. This vehicle was bought on the 10-15 year plan. Getting rid of it is not my first, second, or third option.

    2. I love this vehicle.

    3. I have two shops that I throughly trust, personally know the technicians, and trust their advice and opinions.

    4. This truck has 165k miles on it. Yes, I drive ALOT.

    5. All recommended maintenance, flushes, etc. has been done on this truck (transmission and otherwise).

    So, here's my diliemma.

My 2003 4x4 Explorer needs transmission work. The torque converter and the solenoid are bad. It's sending out a code and flashing the o/d light on the dashboard. When driving it, the shifting is the same that it's always been. The flashing light is off when I start the truck, but it starts flashing when it needs to down shift at highway speeds - like when you're going up a hill.

A friend, senior master Ford tech, has looked at it, pulled the codes, and had his transmission guy look at it. I have discussed his diagnosis and solution with my other tech - he concurs based upon the assumption that the codes were correct.

    So, my options are:

    1. replace the torque converter and solenoid only - this requires pulling the transmission and opening the case to change out the torque converter (I don't have a price for just this work)

    2. replace the torque converter and solienoid AND do an overhaul of the transmission - this is the transmission guy's recommendation because he feels that it probably should have been overhauled already given Ford's transmission history (My thought - why isn't this in the maintenance schedule then?) ($1300-$1600) (warranty - 12 months/12k miles)

    3. put a remanned transmission in it done through Ford - my friend can do this job - 3 year/100k warranty - part is probably $1900-$2200 - unknown on labor at this time - this job is a little more difficult because my truck is a 4x4.

    4. drive it until the tranmission dies - then put a reman in it - probably shouldn't take it out on the freeway.

    5. Since hubby's 95 Tahoe has 190k miles on it - do option 1 and buy him a new truck to be our travel vehicle (all of hubby's family is 8 hours away; most of my family (except parents) are 6 hours away).

So - advice please. And, no, I don't care that you don't like fords, that ford stands for found on road dead (or first on race day). This truck is paid for and has given me very, very little other trouble outside of maintenance items.

I agree the best cars on the market are PAID FOR cars regardless of the brand!

This is a hard deicision....if you plan to keep it and put another 50-100K on it then go with a Full REMAN from either Ford or Jasper engines. This is also the most expensive option so you would want to tkeep it awhile to recover the cost. You can do the otheoptions but the transmission may still fail given the mileage on the vehicle and the history if issues with the 4x4 products.

  5. There have been several “Entering Auto” reports taken in the

neighborhoods around Cohran Store Rd, Ridge Rd, and Bob Hunton Rd. A

firearm was reported stolen in one of the incidents. The suspects

were seen by one of the victims as they were running from the scene.

They were described as two black males. One was wearing a white

    jacket.

Anyone with information about these incidents are asked to call the

Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division

    (770-443-3015).

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office would like to take this time to

remind everyone of a few helpful safety tips. Please remember to lock

the doors of your vehicles. Most of the vehicles being entered are

unlocked. Take a minute to check you exterior lighting. Parking your

vehicle in a well lit area of your driveway will help make your

vehicle a less inviting target. These criminals will use the “cover

of darkness” to help hide their movements and activities. Check your

exterior light to take that benefit away from them on your property.

Consider the benefit of motion lights when positioned over your parked

    vehicles.

wE LIVE OFF OF RIDGE RD. ON THE HWY 61 END AND IT HAPPENED TO US ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD NUMEROUS ITEMS STOLEN, ONE OF WHICH WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE CAMERA.

  6. Is there no slow release form of this medication? I know a slow absorbing Niacin exists, just don't know about the Niaspan.

I take 1000mg of NIASPAN as well ans it IS the slow release niacin. I take it right before bedtime as well to avoid being awake when the flushing begins. But I too forgot one time and had to take it during the day. NOT a GOOD idea.

    But it DOES work!

  7. Thanks to all for the input...

My first call to Comcast was not successful. They told me that company policy does not allow then to downgrade bundle packages. I would have to order all products Ala cart and that would not save me any money to get all of the services I have now separately.

Maybe I should put on my happy face and call late at night!!

  8. I love Comcast! But I was not happy with the rate increase or the poor customer service when looking for an option to lower my bill.

What numer are you calling and at what time? I really do not want to leave them but I can not afford them!

I am in same boat ....don't want to leave them...just want a lower rate. I will however leave if I have to because it does not make sense to me to keep paying $200 for similar service I can get from ATT. Though I must admit not a big fan of ATT either.

The Uverse product looks great but not available in the more rural areas of Paulding...instead you have to get Advanced TV( What ATT calls DISH)

  9. Has anyone had any experience dealing with Comcast Cable.

We started a few years ago with the Triple Play (Internet, Cable, and Phone) for 99$.

Over the years the rate has crept up to 200.00. An they seem to be unwilling to lower the rate and instead lose a customer to another company who can give me Phone, Internet, TV, and cellular for 150.00.

I would rather not have to go through the change of email addresses and all if I could get Comcast to give me a deal like they offer to NEW Cusromers.

  10. Jump 4 Joey is located off of Cleburne Pkwy off of 278. Some of our customers end up in Marietta and others end up off of Ridge Rd. using their GPS. Why can't GPS ever find our building??

    Here's where we're located:

    782 Cleburne Pkwy

    Hiram, Ga 30141

If your headed down Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy, toward Powder Springs, travel to one red light past the movies on the right, where the new Race Track gas station is being built.

    Turn right onto Cleburne Pkwy

Go through the stop light at the Silver Comet Trail crossing

    Straight through the 4-way stop

We're on the right on the corner of Cleburne Pkwy and the train tracks.

ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY GPS CAN'T FIND US?

GPS units work off of a Database that is either loaded into the unit or otherwise programmed. The databases for most navigation systems are very incomplete in our area.

Now if you have the actual GPS coorinates of your building....The units will find you based on LAT/LONG.

  11. I have always loved photography and love it more with each day that passes! I am curious what is the best method to get started if i wanted my own business. I know it would take a while. And with the economy it may not be the best time to start. But i would love some advice..

anything would be great..did you go to school? did you just practice enough and learn on your own? do you have to have a degree to do it professionally?....all that kind of stuff :).

We learned through doing it over the years, moving up through the newest and latest equipment. A degree is not neccessary either but an outstanding portfolio or body of work is a MUST. There is a great deal of competition in the field so don't expect to give up yopur "day Job" anytime soon. You have to have a niche that you specialize in and something you do differently to give you an edge.

I would suggest joining a Photography club and that will expose yopu to a wealth of knowlege including techniques and equipment. Also gets you into exhibits and some freindly crtique.

    GOOD LUCK!

  12. I need to send a file to someone who wants it in PDF format. I don't have a converter program. Is there another way to convert the documnet?

There is a free download of a program called PrimoPDF, just google it. It acts like printer and shows in your list and you print your word document to the PrimoPDF virtual printer and you get a PDF file.......

  13.

I think that most of us all had read ar heard this.....but We really need to know the truth and more about it from an official source.

You would think that something like this would have been talked about on the news. It would be nice to know if some of this violence going on lately is targeted oe random. We have discussions of everything but nevwe much of a resolution.

I know there is alot of news for Pubby to cover but it would be nice for an ocassional follow up....on the more viloent crimes.

  14. I am in search of a private K5 class for the 2009-2010 school year. I would rather him not go all day, preferably unitil about 12:30-1:00. The only ones I know of are 1st Baptist Dallas and Promise Christian Academy. 1st Baptist of Dallas is so hard to get in unless they attend 4K there and Promise is so expensive. I have been trying to find a church or something that offers K5 but am not having any luck. Please help! :yahoo:

Praise Academy Total Learning Center off of Hiram Lithia Springs Rd.

They are wonderful - My son went there through the 3rd grade.

  15. This is about where analysts said that Oil should stabilize under strictly market conditions with no artificial production cut backs or any speculator activity. I think that the range I heard most often was $45 to $65 depending on demand.

I don't think that Exxon will join GM any time soon.grinser.gif

With the planned OPEC production cuts supplies will get tight so it is up to US to not go back to our old driving habits if we want them to stay low.

  16. Ok, I used to know about everything with computer hardware, but things have changed so much I've lost touch with it all, and need advice.

I'm about to order a new Dell system which is on sale (the sale ends soon, so I have to order it ASAP). I was hoping to hold out another year until Windows 7 comes out, but my current 4 year old system isn't going to live that long, so I'm going to have to settle for Windows Vista Premium (ugh) - but it will be the 64-bit version at least. The new system will have 8 gigs of RAM, and the usual DVD writer and 650 gig hard drive stuff - nothing out of the ordinary by today's standards. But I need to know about what processor will give me more overall power for stuff like Photoshop.

My two choices for a processor:

    1) Intel® Core™2 Q9400 Quad-Core (6MB L2 cache,2.66GHz,1333FSB)

    2) Intel® Core™2 Q8200 Quad-Core (4MB L2 cache,2.33GHz,1333FSB)

Not a big difference - but will I see a NOTICEABLE speed difference in stuff like Photoshop or video editing by paying extra for # 1, as opposed to # 2 ?

Last question: I can get the ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB GDDR4 graphics card on it for a bit more. Is this an overall good card?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I agree with all about the 64 bit vs. 32 bit OS...not neccessary unless you really need it.

You mentioned Photoshop...From a Heavy user of Photoshop and other Photo/Video software....you really need to focus on the graphics card. Get the Radeon card....all the processor speed and Ram in the world will not help you much with large photo/video files if you only get the basic video card!!!

  17. So our car battery went dead.

AutoZone's website recommends Fred's Auto Service on Commodore Path by 278 in Hiram for battery replacement for our Audi.

Before I call to see if they actually have the right battery, has anyone else dealt with them before and have an opinion?

    Other local recommendations also appreciated.

I forget, does Sams Club's Auto Center have batteries in additoon to tires?

Fred's does all my auto repairs...at least the work I cannot do. He is certainly not the least expensive in the area....but he is the BEST and most trustworthy mechanic I know!!! He gets it right the first time!

  18. Anyone have any Idea how to find out the locations for "Advanced Voting"?

I Looked at the county Election website and there was no mention of Advanced Voting just a link to find my regular polling place for election day (which I already knew).

  19. STORY HERE

I don't think there is any doubt that a majority of people have been cutting back on trips and fuel use due to the high price of oil and shortage we experienced recently.

It is my hope that people will continue to conserve and not give OPEC the satisfaction of raising prices so soon after we have experienced a little relief at the gas pump. <_<

That is correct...We cannot relax and enjoy the lower gas prices and not continue to conserve. If we start using more gas that will force the oil prices back up as the supplies have been cut.

    CONSERVE!!!

  20. Need a coouple of recommendations for R.E. Law Firms that can handle double/simo closings and are very comfortable with land trusts. I'm not looking for some general practice attorney. Any references would be appreciated very much. Send me a PM or just post here. Oh. And I prefer them to be in Paulding, but if you don't have Paulding references, then send me what you do have. Thanks.

[if I don't get any recommendations I'll sue you all to smithereens. And you can land trust me on that.]

We have used Talley, Richardson, & Cable on several occasions and they are GREAT!
