  1. That is awesome! Congrats to all three and SVdP!

Awww, I have tears in my eyes, Surepip. They are so beautiful and have their whole lives ahead of them!

I had no idea the class was so well represented at St. Vincent de Paul. That is amazing! Thanks for the info. SCC definitely needs TONS more publicity down here!!

P.S. I vote that you're an awesome dad, even though you and Mrs. S. read Nietzche behind your DS's back.

  2. Sorry I took so long to get back, anyway I washed it with soap and water and used a little hydrogen peroxide to kill any germs. It was the musk that got to me! Thank goodness it washes off easily!

You are a brave one! Just the thought of seeing snake fang marks in my flesh or--worse--in the flesh of my children ties my stomach up in a terrible knot.

  3. we have killed three in our yard and the neighbors so far in the last two weeks. the firls twas accidental the rat terrier next dor got a hold of the rat snake and used it as a chew toy , the 2end got squished the last was yesterday and it was a cotton mouth

my 10 year old had just walked passed it need less to say it lost its head. now i have snake repelle dtwo yards the kids play in and also layed out the lime in excess we will see how this works

    Hey Ritualmaker1,

Oh my gosh! :o A cottonmouth! Definitely better as a no-mouth!

But I am having trouble reading the rest of your post. Are you saying that lime repels snakes? If so, I ought to put some around our playground in the backyard. I'm concerned about all these snakes since I have five children.

    Thanks!

  4. I got bitten by one two days ago................. a garter snake! And then it musked me....phew!

Oh, wow. I know they are not poisonous, but I have heard that they can have nasty bacteria on their teeth. How did you treat it?

When the man caught the king snake today, it "musked" us. I've never seen that before. Very interesting. It also tried to impersonate a rattlesnake. The kids were fascinated.

  5. Had to share this. Very short clip of these little ones dancing. The Baby Mamas played for the Senator's Ridge Pool Party. These little guys stole the show! I saw them while I was taking some pics and grabbed a short video of them.

Very cute! And your daughter is just beautiful. You must be proud of her.

  6. my daughter's friend....an 11 yo girl, was bitten by a copperhead a couple weeks ago. I posted about it. She is OK but spent a week in the hospital, including a couple days in ICU.

Be careful out there, not all snakes are the 'good' guys.

:o Oh, that is terrible! That is what I did not want to hear. I saw a photograph online of what a snakebite can do, and it was gruesome. That poor girl.

I hope we do not have those in our yard. One baby probably means a whole family...yikes!!

  7.

Well, maybe it's just our neighborhood. We've lived here for over four years and only seen one snake until this spring--with FOUR different snakes (so far). I do hope the king snakes predominate. I'm afraid that one may have been a baby copperhead. I didn't kill him because I hate killing anything and I wasn't sure it was a copperhead. But now I'm second-guessing myself and wish I would have stepped on him.

...Hopefully one way or another the king snake will eat him.

  8. Hey All,

We've seen at least three different snakes in our yard this spring. And today while we were walking the dog we saw a big black king snake in the middle of the street. A neighbor (who happened to already be wearing gloves), caught him to show to his sons. What a sight! I've never seen anyone do that before.

Anyway, I was wondering if it was a big year for snakes all over Paulding County or just our neighborhood.

  9. Nope.. the water in the lettuce crystalizes and ruptures the the cellulose cells in the lettuce, when it thaws the lettuce wilts and is not longer crispy.

Wow. Thanks. I have never heard the science behind it before.

  10. Thanks everybody!!!! I LOVE my new laundry detergent. It's just fantastic. My whites didn't turn yellow, but I always bleach my whites anyway. I did buy some bluing today to make the whites even snappier bright! And it's so....very...blue!

Also, in the other thread, people mentioned using white vinegar in a Downy ball with each load. I've done that, and it is wonderful. Our clothes are so soft and smell so sweet. I have never been able to use fabric softener or scented detergent because of allergies, so this has been a real treat for us.

    Thanks again!

  11. I am pleased to say I made this about three weeks ago and we love it!!!! :clapping:

I have 5 gallon cat litter buckets for free!!!! I live off Nebo & Dallas Nebo

I have everything but the bucket (which I couldn't find at Wal-Mart today.) I'd surely take one of yours, but I live on the other side of Paulding from you, PaulasParty. :(

Do you really need a bucket that large, though? Has anyone gotten away with a smaller container?

  12. I am pleased to report that we had enough laundry soap to last us 8 weeks. With my mother here, we have 5 people and a dog in out home. We wash a ton of clothes, too. I am about to make my second batch of laundry soap!

    Hey Collegegal,

Thank you so much for bumping this thread. I bought the ingredients that I remember from reading the thread before and was going to look up the rest. I can't wait to make the detergent.

...Plus, I had no idea it was good for sensitive skin. This could be a real breakthrough for us since two of my DDs have atopic dermatitis. I am so pumped!!

    Thanks again.

  13. Yes, this is used by the Burn Unit at Grady and it works! I know from personal experience.

My son used this (silvadine) when his arm was badly burned. They call it a miracle cream for burns. But it's really made with silver and very, very expensive. When my son went for treatments at the hospital, we had to bring our cream with us. They didn't keep it in the treatment center because of the expense.

  14. I've just got a couple weeks of summer vacation left and I'm looking for things to do. I don't have access to a boat, but I'd like to do some fishing in Lake Allatoona. Does anyone know of any good spots to fish from the shore? Any advice on bait and tackle would be useful too.

I used to listen to a fishing show on the radio, and they referred to Lake Allatoona as "The Dead Sea."

  15. Thanks. It always seems to help with the allergies...

    Hey JMT,

We buy Week's Works by the pint at the Kroger on 41 and Jiles Rd. in Kennesaw. Brad Weeks is a beekeeper in Ball Ground. It does help us with allergies, although it's a long-term approach kind of like allergy shots.

  16. was the pope invented yet

Yes! The Pope was invented. He was in the mind of God since the beginning of time.

...And...the idea of the Papacy was revealed to man when Our Lord said to St. Peter: "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:17-19 (NIV)

The Pope is the successor of St. Peter.

    God bless!

  17. That would have made things kind of awkward at the Last Supper, no?

That's a *great* observation, juleebella. The last supper was no state dinner, though, or even any ordinary meal. It was on one level the Passover Meal, and on another level, the first **Mass,** and the Pope sometimes celebrates Mass with a million people.

    God bless you!
