  1. I have a nine year old sheppard mix dog. He weighs about 45 pounds and is the sweetest dog in the world (as long as someone is home.) Unfortunately, he has a severe case of separation anxiety and we can't leave him alone. When he is left alone, he becomes very destructive. It's a long story but here goes.

I've had Scrappy since he was about 4 months old. He was a great dog at first but I was still living at home with my mother. When we moved into a new house, my mom decided that she did not want to have a dog inside the house and we were forced to put him outside on a runner. He did not get near the amount of attention that he was used to getting when he lived inside and I think that made him sad. That went on for about three years until I got married and purchased a house of my own. My wife and I brought him back inside the house and he was very excited. However, when we began leaving him alone while we went out, he chewed a hole about the size of a small beanbag chair in my sheetrock wall. I was furious. Over the last four and a half years, we have tried everything. We put up a privacy fence in the back yard hoping that he would be okay with staying there while we left. He was not. He has chewed up my fence in several places and he has also chewed up my back porch and even torn the siding off of my house. I was able to put it back up but now it has teeth marks in it in several places. We have also talked to our vet and had him put on medication that is supposed to calm him down. However, all it does is make him very lethargic when we're home but he still goes crazy when left alone. We also called Bark Busters to come out and help. He's better on walks now but still acts up when left alone. He also hurts himself when left alone. He has chewed on so many things, usually metal things, that he has no canine teeth left.

About four months ago, he began to have seizures. Now he is on phenobarbitol that he takes twice a day. This is not really a problem because the medicine is only about $12 / month. Because of this medication, he is truly unable to take any seperation anxiety medicine.

Our neighbors have been very patient about our situation with Scrappy until now. Over the last two days, he has been trying to get out of our back yard by digging under the gate. He has been getting his head stuck and barking like mad. Our neighbors have finally broken down and called animal control. They have told us that they are going to take legal action if we can't keep our dog on our property and fix the problem with the fence. The problem is that no matter how many times I fix the fence, he will destroy it again. I am a police officer in a city nearby and I cannot get into trouble with the law over a pet. Our only choice now, after seven years of patience and trying everything, is to get rid of him.

Scrappy would be great dog for a family that spends the majority of their time at home. He is even great with children. We have a 21 month old daughter that he adores. She sits on his back and rides him like a horse and he never complains. We are young and always on the go and can't be cooped up in our house because we can't leave our dog alone. If there is anyone out there, possibly an older couple, who doesn't get out much, that would like to have a very sweet dog who is completely housebroken (he will not use the bathroom inside no matter what), please contact me through this blog before Sept. 9. At that time, I will be forced to turn him over to Animal Control. They say they will put him up for adoption but we all know that won't last long, and as much trouble as he's caused me, I don't want to see him put to sleep.

    Thanks,

    J. Slatton

  2. We had a pretty good time at the Museum today. It costs $11.00 to get in (children under 2 are free). It was pretty crowded, but not terrible. I thought that going during the week would be okay, but it there were MANY little ones there. They had many things for the children to do...

    water table activities

    climbing and sliding structures

    a kitchen area

    a grocery store type area

    many pretend food items EVERYWHERE

    building areas

    a painting area

    a moon sand area

    train tables

    a ball area

    SESAME STREET area

We enjoyed it. I'm not sure that going with a large group would be easy. With as many people there, it would be hard to stay together. I would definitly recommend it if you don't mind large crowds.

  3. Hello everyone. I'm Mandi. I'm 27 years old and am married to a police officer, Jeremy. We have an 18 month old daughter, Taylor. We live off of Ridge Rd in Douglasville/Paulding County. For the past five years I have been a teacher; however, I have now decided to stay at home with my little one until she starts school. I have been looking for weeks for something to get involved in - for myself to meet people and for Taylor to have others to play with. I'm so thrilled that I have found you all and look forward to meeting you.
