  1. I wonder if that would burn the pistons up in my bike?

Actually racing fuel is less likely to grenade your engine. It burns slower causing less wear since there's no knocking or detonation. Knocking is when the fuel/air detonates without spark inside a cylinder prematurely. This makes that cylinder work against the engine for that cycle lowering power, lowering efficiency (MPG), and causing increased wear.

On the downside, the slower combustion of high octane fuels means that engines designed for regular (87) have cam profiles that will open the valves too soon lowering the overall compression/power of the engine. The combustion is still occuring when the valves open and the pressure escapes into the exhaust instead of turning the crankshaft.

I'm no engine builder and someone is going to go crazy about their pro-stock racer needing premium/race fuel. It comes down to simple physics.

Edited to add: When it comes to driving - autopilot KILLS.

  2. Maybe too late but the stealership is the LAST place to buy any of your gear.

Motorcycle gear has a massive markup and can be found much cheaper online. If you don't know your size try on the brands you want at a dealer, buy online.

For those who will whine about supporting your local dealer, screw that. They're massive corporations that purposefully gouge buyers on the small stuff (Helmets, Gloves, Jackets, etc.) to inflate their profit margins - good business practices but only because people buying bikes are easily tempted.

  3. Bottom Line

If he's shopping for an American Ironhorse. He is not in it to save money. That's just the excuse.

He won't save on gas because it will only be ridden 2-3 months per year. That thing will never see the first hint of bad weather. The costs of proper riding gear won't be an issue since I've yet to see anyone ride one of those bikes with it. 'Brain bucket' novelty helmet, jeans, white T, and work boots. Mileage estimates are high at 40, more like 30 for that bike. Most of the gas gets used sitting at lights revving the engine.

Harley's are better only in that they cost slightly less and have more utility value (depends on model), but still not the option for 'saving' money. If you want to really save money, buy a mid-90s Japanese cruiser no bigger than a 750. The cost, although inflated right now because of demand, should still be less than a few payments on either of the above. The insurance will be laughable, and there will be genuine gas savings (60+ mpg). Americans are obsessed with large engine size and that means we don't get a lot of the good bikes that the rest of the world does. The good mid-size bikes just don't sell enough here. Since engines have progressively improved and, because of American buyers, gotten larger over the years it becomes necessary to look at older models to get the more economical size. They were the top in their day.

BTW - My primary vehicle is the bike. The funnest bike I've owned has been the 95 ex250 (Kawasaki) I paid 1K$ for in 2007. It got a measured 70mpg+-, was comfortable, and ran like a champ. It's great to be able to wind out a few gears a not be supersonic. The only reason it sold is I have no commute to take advantage of it on.

I'm waiting for the day when gas tops 10$/gallon and that motorcycles take over the world US (motorcycles have already taken over Europe & Asia). It will be a great day when I no longer have to deal with teens driving F250 diesels like sports cars around Hiram. At nearly 5$ for diesel it has declined already...

  4. You forgot another option on the poll.

'VOIP is great but Comcast is too expensive. 40$ per month...Holy Crap!' 480$ /year

    Vonage is only 25$ /month. 300$ /year

Packet8 is 25$ also but allows annual plans for 200$ (16.66/mo)

Oh, and all of those Bundle prices are only good for 12 months. Then it's their full price...see above.

  5. the diffrence from what? i didnt say anything about property owners..

i said things are becoming too regulated and things are growing up too fast...

The only regulations that exists are to benefit the property owners and attempt to keep THEIR rights intact. The problem is that there are relatively few owners of all that land and untold thousands that wish they owned it therefore the consensus is that the property owners are selfish and greedy for trying to preserve THEIR land. Look at what was done to THEIR property back in the good ol' days. Junk cars dragged out and lit on fire. Entire houses worth of appliances dumped and occassionaly doused with gas a set ablaze. Enough trash to make a second landfill dumped...and occassionaly left to burn.

Taking your ATV to the 'cutts', Lucas, Powerlines, etc. is no different than them showing up in your yard.

You care so much about your own liberties but not so much about anyone elses.

BTW: I own no riding land but I do have an ATV. I really wish I could ride it like I used to but I understand the reasons not.

  6. Parker Service (Legion Rd.) put the decimal in the wrong place for a charge and instead of the 77.47 they swiped my card for 774.70

I didn't sign the receipt and the woman at Parker immediately swiped a refund for the same amount. Wachovia held the 774.70 for over 2 weeks even with the refund 'showing on the account'. They said that while debits to the account are made as soon as the machine swipe is done, refunds take 10-15 business days. In the meantime I was out the money.

Moral is read the fine print on the TOS. They have hundreds of ways to delay your money.

Wachovia also has another one they love to use. If you use a check card (who doesn't now) and make a charge that put's your AVAILABLE BALANCE below zero, they charge the fee right then (20-30$). A day later when the charge is 'posted' to the account they again charge the fee for the same overdraft charge (20-30$). They claim that the fee is levied first when the money is allocated (card swipe) and then at posting. Basically it's a loophole for double dipping the overdraft charges. I found this out when a direct deposit was 1 day late for a holiday. Every little 1$ swipe gets them 2 FEES.

  7. I have a 2007 jeep commander. We got the sunroof and we all love it. We have 2 teens and 3 small children and it works great for us. Gas now though is running us about $90 a fill up (depends on how much you drive) I have to do this weekly so its not to good for us right now gas wise. The only problem that we have had is the back windows leaking in and ruinning the speakers for the stereo which by the way Jeep fixed free of charge and was SUPER NICE about it all. It's a great car for a large family or a nice suv for a mom spends a lot of time in a car with kids!!

90$ to fill up a vehicle with 20.6 gallon tank (if it's factory dry)??? That's an exaggeration or you gotta find a new gas station. That's 4.36/gallon. The Commander doesn't need premium.

Mine took 62$ to fill from the computer saying '3 miles to empty' @ 3.68/gallon.

Pros: Large, Comfortable, and surprisingly quick w/ V8 (v6 is pitiful), std. remote start 07 and up, std. backup sensors (req. w/ backseats up). Headlights are near HID bright. Lots of storage with seats down.

Cons: Overall mileage around 15 (4.7L V8 driving easy), suspension is very soft and bouncy - too much so, wind noise, the back 2 seats are for pre-teens only. The back window is blocked by back seats, very large blind spots. Automatic headlights flash when going through tunnels, dense trees, etc. - too sensitive. No storage with seats 6&7 up.

All of the other problems reported have thus far eluded us. Of course in the 15 months I've had it we just hit the 10K mile mark. The other problems reported are engine cutouts - it just turns off while driving down the road, leaking windows, transmission shift problems, and rough idling. Mine is a lease and I will not be keeping it. Although the reliability problems have not struck I don't think it is a vehicle that I can justify at this point. Note: Most of the engine problems are related to the V8 engines, but it may just be no one buys the V6 after driving it.

And Consumer Reports hated it I believe.

  8. From the perspective of someone who is an IT expert...12 years in the field...and work for a major electrical company in Cobb County doing IT.

Not what I was expecting for an 'IT' guy...

I have no experience with Vonage (25$) or Comcast (35$) as they are too expensive for my tastes. I have Comcast internet and have experienced 1 outage in 3 years - it was the day I told a friend I never had an outage. My cable and VOIP was out for about an hour - no problem as my VOIP automatically simultaneously rings my cell anyway. There are tons of VOIP companies out there and most all give the same services. I currently use Packet 8 and have had 0 (ZERO) outages or problems (9mo). The call quality is equal or better than my bellsouth lines. The costs are far less than when I had the minimum bellsouth plan (199$/yr. vs. 38$/mo). To solve the problem of having only one phone I bought a multiple handset package from Sams. It came with 4 phones, only 1 needs to be plugged into the VOIP router.

For those trying to integrate VOIP into your household phone wiring, DONT. See my comments on 911 calls above. Unplugging your home from the Bellsouth network completely WILL STOP 911 FROM WORKING.

Public Safety Tip Of The Day.

A NORMAL LANDLINE PHONE WILL DIAL 911 WITHOUT SERVICE - AS WILL ANY UNACTIVATED CELL PHONE (ASSUMING GOOD SIGNAL).

Note: The 911 center will not be able to call back if you lose connection.

I would hope an IT guy would know this and not play to the fears of all parents. Having a standard phone plugged into the wall or in a drawer near a wall outlet makes for easy 911 access.

  9. file a report and request for them to pull Wal-Mart's outdoor security cameras. Legally, they can not release the footage without a formal police report, so you need to do this. This way, if something does happen, police have a #1 suspect.

Not quite...Wal Mart will not release security footage by their policy without court order except to LEO. The store owns the footage (like Google owning it's search information) and can do anything they want with it.

  10. How about a crack down on 4-Wheelers on public roads and right of ways. Should tax payers have to see right of ways eroiding from 4-wheeler use?

Who's going to take the blame when little 12 year old Johnny (or little Johnny's daddy) runs from the cops on his ATV and dies?

I imagine the Sheriff and Deputies know exactly who would take the blame and know it's not worth the risk of life.

  11. The law that was passed was shot down for several reasons...but the big one right now is...

There is no such thing as a school bus stop. School busses stop practically at every location there is a child waiting for it. Therefore saying someone can't live within 1000 feet of a stop is an impossibility.

I know that some busses only stop at the end of the short cul-de-sac roads picking up several children at once but it's still not a 'School Bus Stop'.

  12. I agree in that I don't see a correlation between good driving and good grades. Often it seems that the more educated (school wise) and more priviledged (nicer car) the WORSE the driving.

I believe that we should move to the European system of graduated licensing based solely on vehicle type/power. But then all of the parents living vicariously through their children would complain.

  13. This topic has been visited so many times...

Short answer - YES there are gangs in PC. We have everything from the neighborhood size (5 - 10) teens that band together commiting mostly property crimes (everyone remember Ladora Drive), 20-30 late teens to early 20 somethings that 'jump' people at somewhat random times and places, and all the way up to drug smugglers that are small parts of international networks. Yes, we have small sets of the nationally known 'Crips', 'Bloods', 'Gangsta Disciples', 'Aryan Brotherhood', 'Folk', 'People', 'Latin Kings', 'Mexican Mafia', etc. - the list goes on and on. We also have more local types that don't claim any national group such as Georgia Boys (sometimes Georgia White Boys), SHWB, Paulding Boys, and others I can't remember right now. The 'local' gangs around here (PC) tend to be the larger sets and span most of the county and surrounding counties. They also tend to be white males with a few female girlfriends getting included. The Crips, Bloods, Folk, People, and GD tend to be mostly black males but also will be more diverse in their membership. Large groups of the same set tend to be found in subdivisions or local neighborhoods it seems.

To think that we have 'wannabe' gang members is naive. There is no such thing. Just because crips in Compton don't know the 'wannabe' crips in 'The Meadows of Northcrest' or 'Kingswood Club' doesn't mean they're any less dangerous or destructive. The ONLY difference between a gang (group of friends) and 'Criminal Street Gang' is the criminal activity. A group like that pictured above may or may not claim a set. Even if they do they may or may not commit crimes.

As far as the solution, good luck. As population increases it will only get worse. Information is always the top priority with investigating street gangs. It used to be that sets would be proud to show their colors, signs, etc. in public. They even would taunt police flashing their signs while being photographed (police loved it - useful information). More and more they try not to make their affilitations known easily. Pictures like that above are great since they can be used for informational purposes. Be careful though...posting in an open forum pictures (especially juveniles) as a matter of practice could open one to civil and, although unlikely, possible criminal penalties. Imagine if someone posted pictures of your children on the open web.

Pages and pages could typed on this...

  14. We have all 3 with Comcast. Overall, we are happy with our service. However, one draw back is if the cable is out - so is your phone service. They were recently working on our cable lines for several days and we were without phone service much of the time. As long as you've got a cell phone as a backup, it's great!

Most people use cordless phones so if their power is out, the phone is out anyway. In the 2 years I've been with Comcast I've lost service 1 time - and it was my fault. As far as the Comcast phone is concerned, it's 35$ per month with a contract. There are several companies on the net that offer the same service (VOIP) for far cheaper. Vonage is the most known but it's still 25$ per month (no contract?). There are too many to list. All are virtually the same although some have little features that others may not (depends on their server software).

My phone is 100$ (I did get a special rate - normally 200$) per year with unlimited long distance, every feature ATT offers (CID, 3way,call waiting, etc.), and THE NUMBER IS NOT AVAILABLE TO PHONE SOLICITORS - NOT 1 CALL IN 2 YEARS.

    www.packet8.com

Does anyone have wireless with Comcast? I want to be able to use my one desktop and two laptops. I need to print from all. Are there additional charges with wireless?

DONT PAY COMCAST OR BELLSOUTH FOR THE 'WIRELESS' INTERNET - RIPOFF.

NOTE: 3 Years ago when I first got VOIP phone I also switched from DSL to CABLE internet. I tried to get the number 'ported' from Bellsouth to the VOIP provider. I was told that because my number was a DSL phone number it would not be ported. Something to consider if 1)the same rules still exist and 2)you've had the same number for a long time not wanting it to change.

  16. I think not just the Deputy who did it but for the others who stood around and did nothing.

+1 with reservations...a thorough investigation should be conducted. Those present would have to explain very well why nothing was done.

I hope I don't piss anyone off by saying this but do you know why he was arrested? You can go to the Hillsbourogh County Sheriff's website and see -- I looked -- He fleed while being pulled over -- I agree she shouldn't of dumped him out but do we know what all happened before that? Was he running his mouth etc???

I've pondered about this since I heard about it. I've only seen the EDITED video and therefore will only assume that the man is dumped into the floor without offering any resistance. I can't see a situation where this action could be considered reasonable or necessary. I say that most deserve what they receive from LE since the stories relayed in the news are so slanted to create the strongest, most talked about, and emotional response possible for ratings sake - watching the footage shows that was the intent of the story. BUT...I see no reason for this action in the video. If she can't explain a damn good reason she should be charged with whatever laws Florida has on the books for the assault. I personally believe that in this particular case the other officers that were in the video should be disciplined heavily, terminated, or charged depending on investigation. A paralyzed man falling in the floor is not an insignificant event regardless of reason.

The man's original offenses (fleeing, etc.) should have no bearing and his original charges should NOT be dismissed as a way to appease him. The arresting officer, unless it was this detention officer, had no involvement and the original case should remain.

While agree the deputy is wrong in her actions, I do have a couple of questions about the statement of the suspect in the video:

#1. He states thet he hit heavily on his right side and that his right side is still numb. However, in the video it clearly shows him landing on his left side?

#2. He states that he is "quadriplegic" which means "Complete paralysis of the body from the neck down". The video again clearly shows that he has the use of both of his arms?

While I'm sure he is sensationalizing the event as much as possible for purposes of the imminent civil suit I don't think that it really matters. He was DUMPED from a wheelchair onto a concrete floor for at most 'running his mouth'. A third question might be why he waited so long but then again, doesn't really matter either. I find it interesting the way he is basically saying down with government though. I have a feeling he will self-destruct sometime soon if his attornies don't keep the reigns tight - after all they want that money too.
