  1. They are already selling his story... did you hear that commercial? :) I'm so proud for him!

Yes I heard it. I wouldn't be surprised a movie will be made. He has dominated the Olympics, people will remember him for decades!

  2. What a guy! When asked how he feels about 8 Gold and he said he couldn't do it without his team. Giving credit and congratulations to all without patting himself on the back. You can tell through his voice cracking how genuine he is.

  3. I read this entire thread and I'm excited to be a part of Adam's homecoming. I have often wondered when he came home the first time if he was home to stay and now I read he has been back for another tour. Each day I read the cups and count down with you. I'm glad to read that we can all get involved to show our support to Adam and his family.

I thought of calling Dollar Tree (next to Sam's) to see if we can order all the yellow smiley face balloons. If a few people bought some we would have a fantastic display! Keep us posted on the day he will be home and I will get some to put on the fence!!

    :D :D :D

  4. Is this something new or only done at certain schools? I have had children in school for 8 years and I dont remember them ever having two time slots....although the year my kids were in 3 seperate schools I would have loved it.

Allgood has had two open house times in the past. I attended the morning one because the afternoon was busier with parents getting off work.

  5. Are you able to just switch teachers?

I would try if you know your child would do better in a different class. The office staff are back in school at least a week before school starts. Talk to the principal if need be before open house and the student list is finalized.

  6. Those are his teachers. Unfortunately following directions is not his strong suit. He will have an IEP in place, but I am concerned that he will not have a very structured class. He needs a teacher with a very firm and strict class and not one who talks to much.

If you need a strict and very firm teacher then you should ask for K. Thompson. I was told she takes a lot of the kids in the special needs programs, particularly speech program.

  7. open house would be the best time to get list..

and that is abou the time all the sales hit..

I wonder if there will be a tax free day around the time school starts this year?

each teacher is different... and ask for different items..

Good luck to all of you with a child in school for the first time..

I plan to wait to buy also. In May Allgood elem. was advertising a box of all the necessary school supplies parents could purchase at open house. One fee covers it all. I can't remember what it was. I'm guessing around $10. :pardon: I love that idea. No more going through the crowded school supply aisles. If you want to pick up some really cheap folders, pencils, etc. Staples is having a 1 cent sale!!!

  8. Mine went there for Kindergarten last year. She had Mrs. Brand and Mrs. Johnson. They were wonderful! I do not have anything negative to say about them. I hope you have them as teachers! My daughter learned so much from them. They always kept me informed on everything!!!

I have heard great things about the other kindergarten teachers, but my son had the one referenced above in another message. Let's just say a friend of mine whose son is now 13 had her for kindergarten (different school at that time) and he had to go to counseling and still remembers her to this day!

  9. I think it's always the Thursday night before school starts~!!

Correct, I believe middle and high schools are the same day so we can do all the running around on one day. There are two open house times for elem. school: One late morning and then one in the evening 2-6 p.m.

  10. My wife and I finally made it to McFarlands last night.

Overall the food was good, some things could be improved but it was a good experience and we will return. My wife had the NY steak strip which was cooked very well and was very tender and thick and the potatoes were great. I had the fish and chips which could be improved but was not bad, the chips were good, the fish a little too mushy.

This place is cool looking and has a great atmosphere and some good brew on tap, I want this place to make it, I think Hiram needs a place like this.

The biggest problem I saw was that the place was all but empty...

I urge anyone out there that has not given it a try to go...and those that have consider trying it again.

Some traditional live Irish music on the weekends would be cool…If anyone from McFarlands out there is listening.

I thought the atmosphere was great and some music would be good too. I thought this place was Scottish though, but I see references to Irish. :pardon:

Anyway, we tried it a few weeks ago for a birthday dinner. The bill was $68 for two adults and kids. Steak seasoning was awful. Veggies buried in pepper because they had no flavor otherwise. Flies were everywhere!! We were swatting and eating at the same time. I won't return. :nea:

  11. Allgood's open house is the Thursday before school starts. So, August 14. Some advice, I know the teacher you speak of...stay involved in the classroom and I hope your son follows directions perfectly. :o Good luck!
