  2. Thanks for the note of confidence. We absolutely loved living in this house. I want to see somebody nice get into it. I just looked at the County School Zone map - your correct we're in the Moses Middle school district. I guess I should have remembered this, as I vote at Moses Middle ! :p

Unless it changed this year, the middle school is Moses Middle..an excellent school IMO.

Good luck with the house!! I know a few mighty fine folks that live in that sub'd (and my hubby used to drive the elementary bus route in there).

  3. Thanks for the note bfair.

I think this is priced right at $1,000/ month. I've seen other rental homes in our area priced higher and, without the extra amenities I include (water and trash removal). I think our little corner of Paulding in the Ivey Gullage/Frey Road area is quite nice. I have a property managment company handing showings and rental contracts on this residence. If you'd like to schedule a viewing, please call CRS Properties - Mamie Duncan at 678-313-5042 or 404-428-8304. You can also email her at mamiesells@bellsouth.net To rent the home, I'm requiring a 1-year rental agreement and pet deposit if needed.

I drove by yesterday! Is the property still available? I live in Willow Brooke on the other side and if they rented your daugher's place they would be really close.

    Is the rental amount negotiable?

    Thanks :D

  4. Thanks for posting this dad.

A little more info: The house is near the Crossroads area of East Paulding (Cedercrest, Hwy 381 and 92). Kroger, Publix and Starbucks are within a mile. Acworth shopping is about 6 miles away. Hiram shopping is about 8 miles away. This house has lots of tree shade cover. As we all know, trees help keep those air conditioning bills down. New HVAC was installed in January 07. I've noticed a hugh savings in the utility bills already. The gas heating bill went down significantly in Jan & Feb. I encourage all property managers to provide tenants with estimates of monthly utility costs. This is an important extra cost in housing that people often overlook in their moving decision.

July 07 monthly utility bills were.....

    Electric $65

    Gas $ 60

Water and Trash removal service are included at no additional charge.

We have lived in the house for 6 years. Home was built in 91. All the rooms have been freshly painted. The exterior was freshly painted this year. Lots of cabinent space and a pantry in the kitchen. Large vaulted celing in living room. It's a very quiet, low-traffic neighborhood. The two-car garage has lots of space and a workbench.

    Thanks for browsing the add.

  5. As much as I don't like the content of Pat Lazlo's expression, I respect his right to speak out freely. I'm uncomfortable with people who are quick to call for action to muzzle someone else's opinion. Just think, someday our tolerance will be truly tested, when we will have to endure radical muslims standing up on our street corners, with bullhorns, denouncing America with every breath they have. Will they deserve less tolerance because of the content of their messege? I think not.

  6. Mr Publisher, thank you for posting the PC Strategic Plan.

The goals/strategies presented here seem reasonable and attainable. 'Business Development' and 'Education' were listed at top priorities for the county. Absolutely! ! !

I'm concerned that not enough is being done to attract new corporations to build in Paulding. Officials are spending a great deal of time on surveying citizen interests. This is important but, we also need to become more aware of the corporate relocation possibilities available to us. Where's the mechanism for that? We often find out too late. Business development is Pauldings highest priority now. We will not be able to adequately fund education, infrastructure or quality of life vision plans if we fail to increase the business tax base to stablize and offset the residential tax base. This is not a political statement, it's a reality in terms of accounting.

Here's an action item to consider: I'd like to see Paulding hire an experienced professional corporation relocation search firm or specialist. This persons job would include (1) to identify potential corporations looking to relocate, (2) to work with County officials to develop and offer an attractive incentive/relocation plan and, (3) to be a valuable resource of information for teaching us how to prospect corporations in the future. This specialist would be our mechanism for keeping our finger on the pulse of new corporate expansion possibilities for our county. As a taxpayer and home owner, I'm willing to pay additional taxes to support this type of professional.

  7. I was sitting at my desk at work when the first plane hit. It was shortly after 9am. A coworker came up to me and said, 'did you know a plane hit one of the towers of the WTC?'. It scared me instantly.

My mother was in Manhatten (NYC) that day in 1993 when the bomb went off in the underground parking deck of the first WTC terrorist attack. My father-in-law was in the city too. I got a frightened phone call from mom later that day. We discussed the possibility that, if the building had fallen over, the destruction would have killed 10s of thousands of people. I listened painfully and, tried to imagine what it must have been like that day. It scared me to think I could lose my mother so suddenly and so senselessly. I call her alot more often now. When the plane hit on 9/11/01, I relived all the fears and uncertainty of that day in 1993. Those bastards were determined to bring those towers down. They were determined to bring widespread fear and sorrow to our nation. I'm so proud that they utterly failed. I may never live to see the day of their punishment but, God will punish them nonetheless. On that day, I tried frantically to call my mother. I could not get through. All the phone lines gave busy signals. Mom lives and works in Queens, quite far from Manhatten but, I still had to know. I finally got word from my brother the next day that mom was fine. Then I was able to relax.

Mother continued to live in Queens and deal with the aftermath. She did the most wonderful thing I must share with you. I so proud of her ! Shortly after the event, Mom was offered a volunteer position to work with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Authority) based in NYC to assist a medical forensics team in identifying victim remains through dental records. Mom is a career dental hygienist (35 years) with specialty in Periodontics and, a member of the NYS Board of Dental Examiners (a standards/testing agency in the NYS Dept of Educ). In the early months of the cleanup, firefighters were cleaning out rubble and discovering body parts and fragments by the thousands. They found arms and legs on the rooftops of other buildings. They found one mans feet in his shoes and nothing else. Sometimes they found a small peice of flesh or fragment of bone. Fire and Police were counted in the list of victims, some 700+ public servants dead. These medical teams examined the tissue and bone fragments, comparing DNA and dental records and, matched them to victim identities as best they could. They never confirmed an identity unless they could absolutely prove it so. Mom did this job for 4 months. She had to stop after a while, it got too be emotionally draining for her. I'm proud of her because she put her anger aside and, just helped out where she could. I think a lot of that happened in America after 9/11. I remember several times reaching into the change cup in my car and emptying it out into a Paulding Firefighters collection boot. That's what I could do at the time.

The government keeps trying to warn us about the 'next attack'. I'm not afraid of it. As long as I live under the stars and stripes, I will live free in my heart and in my daily walk. I will alter nothing about my personal life. Finding ways to enjoy my freedom is my way of defeating them every day. I may even go visit the Statue of Liberty soon, now that its open again.

  8. To all those wondering about my 'no-smoking' status.

I did not succeed on my April 16th quit day as planned however, I did

manage to quit smoking finally. I had a rough few weeks in the middle of May. I got sick and had the shakes for a while. I've been smoke free for two weeks now. I started walking around my subdivision at night. I actually enjoyed the smell of roses in my front yard recently. I feel better - that's the important thing.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I read them again today.

  9. Crawford3.

I can verify all the Police cars and helicopter. I live on Frey Road in Dallas, about 1 mile from the Crossroads down 381. I drove northbound on HWY 92 at about 6:15 and found 4 cruisers before I got to the 4-way stop. I found 3 more once I got to the 4-way. I made my left turn down 381 (Dallas Acworth) and found Douglas, Paulding and Dallas patrol - about 6 more in all. It was obvious they were on a manhunt. PCSO cars where all over my subdivision and all over the new subdivisions on Ivey Gulledge road. It made me feel real good that our county law enforcement agencies work so well together.

WAY TO GO PCS Officers !

At the same time, I felt a little scared. This is a classic example of why PC needs an emergency news response system. I called the PCSO and they could not tell me anything more than to stay in my home. It would have been great to know the suspects vehicle description so I could keep an eye out out my window for him.

  10. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Doreen. :)

I have to admit, I do really enjoy that first smoke in the morning and right after

a meal. I have no problem eating and then smoking outside a restuarant.

I grew up in a home where both parents smoked. I heard one medical argument that some people are 'genetically addicted' to nicotine. Perhaps nicotine addiction is passed on from a parent to the next generations genes........ interesting concept. I've also heard that youngsters receive 'visual' and 'social' cues from smoking parents that encourage them to become smokers later in life.

Well, here's to breaking that cycle.

    Friday, friday, friday............

  11. Hey everybody. Great topic here !

I knew about the track when I moved here 3 years ago. I think it's great Dallas has a motor sports history. I didn't know Southeastern Dragway has been here for 49 years ! That's amazing.

Maybe I'm dreaming but, has anyone ever bounced around the idea of seeking corporate sponsorship to expand the prize money and draw bigger race names?

PCNative - I like the idea about the bleachers and restrooms. That would help.

  12. As George Washington once said, ' I cannot tell a lie....'

I prefer the taste of Pepsi to Coke. I also like Mt Dew, even though it does have a ton of caffeine in it. I've heard many people complain that Pepsi is 'too sweet'. It does seem to taste sweeter than Coke. I guess that's what I like about it.

  13. I agree to a ban on smoking in public places and restuarants. I also agree smoking is a bad and disgusting habit, even though I and my significant other have been smokers for several years. I've set a date for April 16th. I'm finally going to quit this habit ! I'm a little nervous but, I need to do this for better health.

Doreen - you give me hope. Thanks.

  14. Unfortunatly, I have no interesting story on how I came up with 'Peachxing'.

I live in the Peach Crossing subdivision in Dallas. My better half says indentifying myself with 'peach' is gonna make people think I'm a girl. Didn't think of that at the time. Doesn't she know it's rude to read over someone's shoulder? B)

  15. Mr Chairman. Thank you for your kind reply. I guess it's somewhat proper I should say a little bit about myself. I've lived in Georgia since 1997. I moved here from the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. I lived in a small town which boasted little more than 3000 year-round residents. The Adirondack Park Agency in NYS has defined rules and policies in the park since the time of Teddy Roosevelt. APA has been purchasing land for years in an effort to secure Federal Parks and Recreation money. In the park, there is almost no work and, many regulations restrict residential building and 'types of businesses' that can operate. Winter unemployment can peak at 20%. Teenage pregnancy is the highest percentage per population in the state. Drug use and alcohol abuse is high. My parents pay about $2,600 in taxes on a house appraised at $120k. There are some good things however. The winter festivals are great and, there's some comfort in knowing the land will remain 'forever wild'. I wanted to live my life different, so I moved here. Politically, I'm in favor some grown with respect to nature and appreciation of history. (pretty vague, hugh?)

Cobbnative. I hear ya. Too much growth too soon hurts everyone. I lived 2 years in Marietta and 2 in Smyrna. I couldn't take the traffic anymore either. My retreat to the woods in Paulding was a breath of fresh air. I respect your opinion for disagreement with the PFP stategic plan.

  16. I voted in favor of the PFP strategic plan. I think Henry Luke's approach and methodology are reasonable. I did hear some grumbling from neighbors, not knowing what the PFP mailer was all about. I really like the things I've read about green-space preservation, education reform and infrustructure improvement. I've been a homeowner and taxpayer in Paulding for 3 years. I have no children in the school system but, would gladly pay more tax if we can raise our standard of education. (bet you don't hear that everyday) I've also heard people express the perception that county government seems out of touch with citizens. I think our lack of a daily news resource feeds that negative perception.

Mr Webmaster, I really like your webpages. You're increasing awareness with me and others in the county. Great effort !

Mr Chairman, your responses on this forum are insuring (in my mind) that our county leaders are not out of touch or uncaring. Good work !

  17. Mr Chairman,

I hate to stand in the way of better road improvement but, I agree with DSCrealestate, efforts should be made to preserve Grogans store at the Crossroads. It's one of those small pieces of country history that makes Paulding unique. It's our history. Moving it back is a good idea considering the brick foundation is crumbling in some areas. The Picketts Mill historic site entrance is only a few miles from that point. Wouldn't Grogans serve as a wonderful historical gateway to the famous line of battles in Paulding county along route 381? I really don't want the Crossroads to look like every other intersection in Acworth along Highway 41.
