Barbara June Nix age 72 of Dallas, Georgia passed away quietly December 26, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Nix’s death was due to complications from surgery earlier this month. Born Barbara June Portwood to the late Chester J and Julia M Portwood on January 28, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia. She lived most of her life in Cobb County. She worked many years, serving as secretary to the vice president of a large insurance company. After retiring, what started as a hobby, became a creative adventure in floral arranging and home decorating. She became quite the decorator for her family and friends. This gave her a lot of enjoyment.

The other love of her life was her family. She especially loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. Her family came first and she will truly be missed. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Edward Nix of Dallas, Georgia; daughter, Regina Jan Akins and husband Kim of Powder Springs, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie Key of Austell, Georgia, Betty and Paul Johnson of Austell, Georgia, Peggy and Jimmy Rutherford of Powder Springs, Georgia, Linda and Clay Willis of Acworth, Georgia and Phyllis and Bill Jarrett of Taylorsville, Georgia; granddaughter, Alicia Smith Gresham and husband Jack of Powder Springs, Georgia; great grandchildren, Cassidy and Jackson Gresham of Powder Springs, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 2:00p.m. from Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, Georgia with Mr. Buddy Holley officiating. The interment will follow in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery in Winston, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
