Jabez Posted March 25, 2006 Report Share Posted March 25, 2006 Singer Buck Owens, the flashy rhinestone cowboy who shaped country music with hits like 'Act Naturally' and brought the genre to TV on the long-running 'Hee Haw,' died at his home in Bakersfield, California, on Saturday at age 76. chindog Posted March 26, 2006 Report Share Posted March 26, 2006 RIP, Buck. I grew up in Oklahoma City, and when I was a kid in the mid sixties, Buck Owens had a local TV show there. It was sponsored by Mathis Brothers Furniture, a furniture store whose tagline was "The Workin' Mans Friend". Their store is now a chain, and their grandkids are running it, but they had a great music show back then! Even though it was a local show, Buck Owens took it nation wide through syndication.
