Rhett Kenneth Newbern, age 19, of Rockmart, GA (Paulding CO), passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1998, in Marietta, GA, and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myles Newborn, and Jackie & Barbara Shipp. Rhett was a wonderful son, grandson and brother. He was highly motivated in politics, a passionate historian, fighter for freedom, self taught in Spanish, shorthand and the guitar. Rhett was a 2017 graduate of South Paulding High School, was planning to attend college in the Fall majoring in Political Science, and was of Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his parents, Ken & Tesha Shipp Newbern of Rockmart, GA; sisters, Laci Newbern of Rockmart, GA, and Mia Newbern of Rockmart, GA; grandparents, Sam & Ann Godsin of Ephesus, GA; many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 12 PM, at Pumpkinvine Baptist Church, with Chaplain Joey Meeks, Ken Newbern, Mr. Bill Curtis, Laci Newbern and Mr. Jacob Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Paulding Memorial Gardens. Jason Shipp, Keith Shipp, Murl Shipp, Zach Cates, Alan Freeman, Michael Towns and Taylor Wisener will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 5 PM until 8 PM.
