Floyd Poe Manning, Sr. - December 10, 1925 - February 8, 2016

Mr. Floyd Poe Manning, Sr., age 90, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016, at his residence.

 

Floyd was born on December 10, 1925 in Ponzer, NC, the son of the late Fletcher Manning and Katherine “Katie” Dunn Manning. Floyd was veteran of the United States Army in the Army Air Corp in WWII in where he was a Bombadeer Instructor. He graduated from Georgia Tech receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He also received a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Atlanta Christian College. Floyd worked as a Wing Panel Engineer for Lockheed for many years and served as a pastor at Westside Christian Church. Some of Floyd’s many hobbies included; gardening, fishing, camping, vacations to the beach, and building churches. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and loved to serve the Lord.

 

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by four siblings, and a grandson, Zachary Parsons.

 

Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ethel Manning of Rockmart, GA; three sons, Floyd Manning, Jr. of Rockmart, GA, James R. (Wanda) Manning of Rockmart, GA, and Edward L. (Rose) Manning of Acworth, GA; four grandchildren, Christine (Nathan) Scott of Braselton, GA, Jennifer (Stephen) Burger of Dallas, GA, Steven Manning of California, and Brandy (Eric) Bell of Acworth, GA; Ten great-grandchildren, and one brother, Deering Manning of Jacksonville, FL. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Poe Manning, Sr. will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Musick officiating. Stephen Burger, Nathan Scott, Jonah Manning, Jera Shumpert, Murray Manning, and David Troughton will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to the service hour.
