Clark Funeral Home Posted September 24, 2015 Report Share Posted September 24, 2015 Joyce W. Tompkins, age 87, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015. She was born on November 16, 1927, in Dallas, GA, to the late Dennis and Julia Hardy, and was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Hill Walton and Arthur Roper. Mrs. Tompkins retired from Hiram Elementary School where she worked as a food preparer and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bird watching, traveling, singing and working in her flower garden. Survivors include husband, Fred Tompkins of Hiram, GA; sons, Jon Barry Walton of Hiram, GA, Joe Walton JR of Dallas, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda & Steven Merrefield of Boca Raton, FL, and Peggy & Don Lester of Hiram, GA; brother and sister-in-law, James & Maureen Hardy of Marietta, GA; sister, Jonelle Dupree of Hiram, GA; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015, at 3 PM, from Bethel United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jan McCray, Reverend Mark Nysewander and Reverend Beverly Casstevens officiating. Mrs. Tompkins will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Taylor Walton, Jordan Lester, Ryan Lester, Jacob Lester, Brody Lester, Dominick Anziano and Grady Collins will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM, and Sunday, September 27, 2015, from 5 PM until 7 PM.
