Mrs. Marvine Thackston March 12, 1920 ~ April 30, 2014

Mrs. Lucy Tommie Marvine Waters Thackston, age 94, of Hiram, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Wellstar Paulding Nursing Center.

 

Marvine was born on March 12, 1920, in Dallas, to loving parents the late Mr. John Lewis Waters, and Mrs. Fannie Eveline Parson Waters. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years Mr. James “Rip” Thackston; her son Mr. David Thackston; her daughter Mrs. Gail Hulsey; two brothers Mr. Johnny Waters, and Mr. Jimmy Waters; and two sisters Mrs. Annie Ruth Wilson, and Mrs. Mattie Lee Barber.

 

Marvine worked as a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a very crafty person who enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Bethany Christian Church.

 

She is survived by her two sons Mr. & Mrs. Larry (Denyse) Thackston of Hiram, and Mr. Dwane Thackston and his life partner Mr. Mark Alexander of Decatur; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one sister Mr. & Mrs. Hubert (Jeanette) Casey of Douglasville; two brothers Mr. & Mrs. D.L. (Louise) Waters of Hiram, and Mr. & Mrs. A.D. (Joan) Waters of Tallapoosa; several nieces, nephews, and many other beloved family and friends.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Marvine Thackston will be held in the Chapel of Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home of Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1 pm with Brother Jarrett Ferguson, and Brother Kirk Waddell officiating. Jamie Thackston, Chris Hulsey, Brandon Pruett, Steve Trader, James Gantt, and Rodney Waters will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Bethany Christian Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4 – 9 pm and Friday, May 2, 2014 from 9 am until the funeral hour.
