Gayle E. Clayton, 75, of Dallas, GA, went to sing with theangel choir in heaven on Sunday, December 15, 2013, after a long battle withcancer.

 

 

 

Born July 20, 1938, in Washington, DC, she was the daughterof the late Theodore S. Engborg and Catherine D. Engborg. She grew up in Old Greenwich, CT, andgraduated from Greenwich High School. She married Oliver W. Ford, Jr., on June 1, 1957, and eventually settledin East Haddam, CT, and raised four children and several foster children. She volunteered at St. Stephen’s EpiscopalChurch, worked in the church nursery school, and sang in the choir. She also was a school bus driver. Later she moved to Haddam, CT, met and latermarried William T. Clayton. She wasactive in the First Congregational Church in Deep River, CT, worked at SusanBates (manufacturer of knitting needles) for many years before working forClinton Nurseries. She moved to Dallas,GA in 2010 and has been active in the Dallas First United MethodistChurch. Gayle is best remembered for herbeautiful singing voice, her green thumb, her love of birds, and helping thosein need.

 

 

 

She is survived by her daughter Karen Ford of Hadlyme, CT,sons Jonathan Ford and Douglas Ford, both of Manchester, CT, and grandchildrenCaroline Hamlin and Thomas Hamlin. Shewas predeceased by daughter Bonnie Sue Ford in 2011. She is also survived by her sisters Pat Bolanof Knoxville, TN, Katie Smith of East Helena, MT, and her brother Ted Engborgof Denver, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

 

 

A memorial service will be held at Dallas First UnitedMethodist Church, 141 E Memorial Dr, Dallas, GA, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church inDeep River, CT, at a later date.
