Mrs. Edna B. Portwood

Mrs. Edna May Bryant Portwood, age 86, of Ellijay, Georgia,passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Gilmer Nursing Home.

 

 

 

Edna was born in Coweta County on August 8, 1926 to lovingparents the late Mr. J.D. Bryant and Mrs. Lucille Landrum Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her belovedspouse of 70 years Mr. Clarence Wade Portwood, daughter Linda Ruth Smith, twobrothers Mr. Auburn Bryant and Mr. J.E. Bryant.

 

 

 

Mrs. Portwood was the 1^st female police officerin Atlanta and later worked in marketing. She was of the Baptist faith.

 

 

 

Edna is survived by four children Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Wade(Jackie) Portwood of Douglasville, Mr. & Mrs. David (Shirley) Portwood ofDallas, Mrs. Dianne George and Mr. Rickey D. Portwood both of Ellijay; onesister Mrs. Jackquline Rakestraw of Dallas; one brother Mr. George Bryant ofAbline, TX; eleven grandkids, twenty one great grandkids, twenty great greatgrandkids; several nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.

 

 

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Portwood will be held in theChapel of Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2 pm, with ReverendGerald Gann officiating. The followinggentlemen will serve as pallbearers Mr. Jerry Portwood, Mr. Bubba Portwood, Mr.Wayne Goodwin, Mr. Bobby Goodwin, Mr. Steve Smith, Mr. Scott Smith, and Mr.Mitchell Dukes. Interment will follow atMelrose Hills Memorial Park.

 

 

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday,June 22, 2013 from 4 – 9 pm and Sunday, June 23 from 9 am until the funeral hour.
