Another small vent on NEW MOWERS....

A friend brings me a really nice, and relatively new riding mower over for a small repair and tune-up. The pulley on one side had stripped out so I had to replace it. When I bolt on the new pulley, I notice the pulley is still not really tight like it should be. So I look up the diagram for this mower and low and behold, a custom sized flat washer was missing, as well as a lock washer for the other side!! As far as I know this mower has not been serviced before, so this is the kind of inept construction that's happening on brand new mowers!!! Unbelievable!! Luckily, no major damage was done beyond stripping out a $15 pulley, but has it gone on long enough, it could have wrecked both spindles, blades, and caused major deck damage...that's something along the lines of $700 worth of damage!!

 

Folks, if you buy a NEW riding mower and something doesn't sound or feel right, PLEASE give me a call asap!!! It could save you a LOT of money. Check out these so called "guarantees" at the local corporate stores....there basically is NO guarantee at all.

 

These poor folks are shelling out over a thousand dollars and getting CRAP for their money...simply because of the shoddy construction. I can only guess they have young people still in high school needing a part time job that pays min. wage to assemble some of the items on these mowers (they are not completely assembled when shipped into the stores). Buyer beware!!! And I am always here if you need me. I will gladly answer your questions and offer help over the phone for FREE. If my advice won't get it done, only THEN should you probably bring it to me to let me look it over and see what kind of flub happened that most likely will NOT be covered by your warranty from the store you bought it in.

 

And we wonder what happened to our country!! Do the math! Arrrghhh!!! Thank you all for letting me not only vent, but hopefully arm you guys with some knowledge to help you out. Again, my advice is free, and I am all ears to help you the best I can. :)

 

(I still will never forget the guy who bought a new rider, and one blade was not tightened down- it came off at full speed, destroying most of the whole deck.) $700 of damage on a rider that was used for less than 3 minutes....only to be told they would reimburse him for the blades...and that's all. OMG!!!! Gimme a break!!!

Well, here I go again! Someone brought me a Craftsman push mower to repair. I noticed it had a primer bulb, AND an automatic choke. So, what this means it someone put the wrong air filter box on the mower. A primer bulb won't do squat with a choke-type carburetor- there's no priming hole on those carbs. I asked the guy if anyone had fooled with the mower, and he said no..it was bought new and never touched. Of course, this won't affect the mower's performance, but it's still WRONG. My goodness!!! :wacko: My guess is someone sold him a reconditioned one as a new one, because there was also a cross threaded bolt holding the air box plate to the carb.

 

Again- Buyer BEWARE!!! ;)
