J. C. Qualls, age 90, of Hiram, GA, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011. He was born in Marietta, GA, December 4, 1920, and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Qualls & Mary Hughes Qualls; wife, Ester Era Fowler Qualls; and brother, Roy Qualls. He was a resident of Cobb County in his youth, growing up near Marietta where he and his family farmed. He routinely sold fruits and vegetables on the square in Marietta. Mr. Qualls joined the Army in 1941 and after having been promised that his service would not be needed, married the love of his life, Esther, in 1942. He was then called up for service and after one year of deployment he returned to start his professional career, which included the Auto Soler Company, Fulton Bag & Cotton Mill, and Retail Credit Company. Mr. Qualls retired from Equifax in 1985 after 25 years and went on to own a residential construction company and a consulting company. Mr. Qualls was an avid gardener, even providing fresh vegetables for his family until his death and was very proud of his flower garden. He was a devoted husband who took care of his wife as she aged and who adored her still.

Survivors include his daughter, Cassandra Qualls of Atlanta, GA; brother, James Qualls of South Georgia; grandchildren, Jay & Lynne Murray of Kennesaw, GA and Robbie & Christy Murray of Acworth, GA; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Freeman, Jamie Murray, Kaylie Murray and Jacob Murray; great-great-grandchildren, Brinnan Freeman and Blake Freeman; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 11:00 AM, from Clark Funeral Home, with Chaplin Michael Mullink officiating. The family will be having a private graveside following the service. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

 

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Mr. Qualls to: Center for the Visually Impaired, 739 W. Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30308 (404-875-9011).

Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA is in charge of arrangements.
