Ten Tips For Attending Bridal Shows!

Recommended Posts

1) Go early so that you may take your time interviewing vendors.

2) Take a notepad for jotting down information about vendors that you want to know more about. Make a note of where they are, so that you can find them again easily.

3) Have stickers made with your contact and wedding information, so that you don't have to write it down 50 times. That will also save you a lot of time!

4) Wear comfortable shoes.

5) Revisit your favorite booths during the (larger) fashion show. The "show" is an hour-long paid advertisement. It's a one-sided conversation.

6) Don't pay money to any vendor without seeing all of the vendors in that category. Make notes in your notebook and come back to them. Don't rush into deals or sign contracts without being able to give due consideration. Bridal shows are necessarily fast-paced. Don't make the mistake of getting caught up in the moment!

7) Just like expensive mall locations, watch out for vendors that are overly flashy, high pressure, and have a hoard of salespeople. Sombody pays for all of that - the customer!

[8] Take at least one person with you. That person should be helpful in organizing. That person can also help carry literature and take notes.

9) Beware, especially of fake percentage discounts or dollars-off "games". It's a carnival-like hustle. Find out what the regular price is for their top of the line item, everything included. It's a favorite trick to offer customers "$40 off!" What they don't tell you is that they inflate the price $40 to give you a $40 discount. You are still paying full price.

10) Watch out for elusive answers like "It depends" or "Our prices START at....." You may NEED "Depends" when you find out how much the tuxes really cost! Ask the vendor if they are members of a professional organization that pledges to conduct their business dealings ethically. If a vendor can't give you a straight answer, walk away.

You'll have more fun and get more accomplished at a bridal show if you're organized. At larger shows there may be 150 or more vendors. Think of questions that you want to ask certain vendors and write down the questions and the answers in your notebook. At the end of the show, you'll be glad that you were organized and methodical!
