Reverend John Merle "Big John" Emert, Jr. age 60 of Carrollton, GA passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, GA.

 

 

 

Reverend Emert was born in Columbus, GA on May 20, 1950, the son of the late John Merle Emert, Sr. and Mrs. Hallie Nay Emert. Reverend Emert was a pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy in Waleska, GA. He enjoyed gospel music, helping others, and assisting other churches in need.

 

 

 

Reverend Emert is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Mason Emert of Carrollton, GA; 2 daughters, Mrs. Kimberly (Lamar) Atkinson of Temple, GA and Mrs. Jennifer (David) Bearden of Temple, GA; 1 sister, Ms. Barbara Emert of Locust Grove, GA; 1 Brother, Mr. Steven Emert of Tennessee; four grandchildren, John Andrew Atkinson, Michael Garrett Atkinson, Hollie Marie Bearden, and Sarah Lynn Bearden; 1 sister in law, Ms. Brenda Mason of Carrollton, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

 

 

 

Reverend Emert is preceded in death by his beloved parents Mr. John Merle Emert Sr and Mrs. Hallie Nay Emert.

 

 

 

Funeral services for Reverend John Merle "Big John" Emert, Jr. will be conducted on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 4 PM at the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy in Temple, GA with Bishop Billy Adams and Reverend Barry George officiating. Reverend Emert will lie in state from 3-4 PM at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

 

 

 

Pall bearers will include David Bearden, Lamar Atkinson, Selt Setser, Davild Setser, Danny Kiker, Greg Smith, Dwayne Maner, Rob Hutto, John Andrew Atkinson, and Michael Garrett Atkinson.

 

 

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 4-9 PM at the funeral home.
