lotstodo
From the Office of Chris Clark, Commissioner; Georgia Department of Natural Resources: Wednesday, February 3, is the premier of a new season of Georgia Outdoors. This is the 18th season DNR has partnered with Georgia Public Broadcasting to produce Georgia Outdoors, and I know that many of you around the state have been involved. From those who helped organize and schedule filming to those who appear on-camera to others who provided information to the new producer, you have gone above and beyond your regular responsibilities to help bring these new programs to the citizens of Georgia. Two programs air on Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m. The first episode, Herons and Heroes, explores the lives of great blue herons, wood storks and many other species of wading birds. At 8:30 p.m., the episode Crashing Water showcases the waterfalls of north Georgia and outdoor activities including fishing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking. Look for a number of DNR sites in both shows. Butler Island/Altamaha WMA, Sapelo Island, Sweetwater Creek State Park, and Fort McAllister all offered great places to film wading birds. Crashing Water features footage of Tallulah Gorge State Park, Amicalola Falls State Park, Anna Ruby Falls near Unicoi State Park and Dukes Creek Falls near Smithgall Woods. You've heard me talk about creating a culture of conservation and better promotion of our sites for increased visitation, and Georgia Outdoors is helping us do this by sharing our message with a statewide audience. There are several changes in this year's series that we hope will make the show even better. For the first time, it is airing in high definition, and the beautiful imagery will help raise awareness and get people excited about the outdoors. It also will help us encourage people to become engaged, visit our properties and move them towards stewardship of the natural and cultural resources that we at DNR work with every day. This production literally could not be done without you. Thank you for your support of this project and for all you do. JCC Chris Clark Commissioner
irish
Thank you sooo much for posting this! Sweetwater Creek is such a gorgeous place and many people don't even know where it is! Or maybe that's a good thing for those of us that go. My son and I love hanging out there on weekends. I'll definately be watching!
