Shumpert, age 95 years young, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, after a short illness at Wellstar Paulding Nursing Center in Dallas, GA. She was born June 14, 1914, in Itawamba County, Mississippi, to the late, Will & Ada Loden Lindsey. Married to Robert L. (Shorty) Shumpert, August 10, 1946, who passed in 1974. She lived many years in Tupelo, MS, before moving to Amory, MS, where she lived with her sister, Blanch Wiygul. She then moved to Hiram, GA, to be near her granddaughter, Patrice Gee (Benny) and family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and spending time with her son, Charles M. Shumpert of Sharpsburg, GA. She enjoyed her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was also a step-mother to R. Madison Shumpert (deceased) and his three children, two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren of Mooreville, MS. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Amory, MS and attended First Baptist Church of Dallas, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Mitchell Shumpert and 2nd husband, Robert L. Shumpert; brothers, Shellie Lindsey and Cecil Lindsey; sister, Blanch Wiygul; daughter-in-law, Pat Shumpert; grandson, Michael Shumpert; and step-granddaughter, Pam Estes. Survivors include her son, Charles Shumpert of Sharpsburg, GA; granddaughters, Patrice Gee (Benny) of Hiram, GA and Teresa Shumpert of Sharpsburg, GA; grandson, Robert C. Shumpert (Sandra) of Sharpsburg, GA; nieces, Virginia Harris (Doyle) of Amory, MS, Jewel Faulkner (Jolly) and Judy Weaver of Splunge, MS; and nephew, Bob Wiygul of Amory, MS. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 11:00 AM, from W. E. Pegues Funeral Home, Tupelo, MS, with Glen Wiygul officiating. Burial will follow at Tupelo Memorial, with Terry Faulkner, Barry Faulkner, Tony Weaver, Greg Harris, Blake Harris and Aaron Gee, serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Pegues Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
