Larry Clark Matthews died on February 29, 2008.

Born in Dallas, Georgia in 1938, (lived in Austell, GA for many years) Larry went on to graduate from South Cobb High School and Southern Tech with an Electrical Engineering degree. He had a progressive career in computer engineering and ultimately retired from Tennessee Valley Authority after 20 years.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mercer & Myrtis Matthews, his first wife Kathryn and brother Michael. Survived by his wife Sondra Matthews, sister Dr. Aprile Holland, his children and their spouses Melissa & Tony Paz (McMinnville, TN), Michael & Sheri Matthews (Plano, TX) and MAJ Holly & LTC Keith Brelia (Shalimar, FL) and grandchildren Samantha, Allison, Michael, Katherine, Aprile, Eric, Jeffrey, Christianna, Andrew, Christopher, Sarah, Joshua and Natalie.

Larry had a passion for music and dancing of the 50s. Since retirement he backpacked through Europe and enjoyed travel to Alaska, British Columbia and most recently Greece. Larry’s greatest passion was his family and his favorite place of all was the sidelines for his grandchildren’s activities – soccer, basketball, baseball, softball and cheerleading. He was affectionately called "Papa" by his family and "Coach Papa" by family friends. As we celebrate his life and the miracle it was, Papa will always be remembered as a strong, determined man, full of life but mostly full of love and devotion for his family. We were blessed to have him in our lives and we will greatly miss him.

Larry Matthews was laid to rest in Dallas, Texas on March 4, 2008. A Memorial Service will be held in Hiram, Georgia on March 6 at 3:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (214-373-9808) or to the Trinity Christian Academy Soccer Program (972-931-8325) in Addison. Clark Funeral Home, Hiram, GA is in charge of arrangements. www.samclarkfuneralhome.com
